EUGENE UHRYNIUK After a courageous battle with cancer, Eugene Uhryniuk, aged 90, passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital with his family at his side on Tuesday, June 15, 2004. He leaves to mourn his passing son Eugene (Shannon); grandsons, Julian and Dylan; sister Sally Hawrish of Windsor, ON; brother-in-law Joe Taddia of Las Vegas; sister-in-law Joyce Chambers of West St. Paul; godson Rev. Richard Hawrish of Windsor; great-niece Joanne Hawrish of Toronto; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Yustyna (Jean) in 1994, and sister Jean Taddia in 2003. Eugene was born on January 1, 1914 in Winnipeg. He attended Norquay School and St. John's High School. After apprenticing in pharmacy, he entered the College of Pharmacy at the University of Manitoba, graduating in 1941. In 1946, Eugene founded Charles Drugs, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1987. Eugene always enjoyed helping people and was well known in the Ukrainian, pharmaceutical and North End communities. He enjoyed the challenges of business and pharmacy, and was awarded both the 50 year pin and lifetime memberships by the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association. In 1961, Eugene married Yustyna (Jean) Chymbur and they had one son. Eugene was a loving and devoted father who enjoyed spending time with his family. Their home was always filled with warmth of family and friends. Eugene's sense of humour, and kind and gentle nature will be missed by all who knew him. Eugene was an accomplished violinist who played in the Winnipeg Chamber Orchestra and taught a number of students while attending university. He had a love for music, gardening, and in his retirement years, he enjoyed winemaking with the grapes he carefully grew in his yard. Eugene's greatest joy was always his family and Gigi enjoyed every moment with his grandchildren and developed a special bond with them. He took great pride in their achievements. He cherished the time spent playing in the games room at Amber Meadow, where he spent the final year and a half of his life. He developed many friendships and renewed others in his time at Amber Meadow. He was named the "friendliest person" by the residents and one of the highlights was the celebration of his 90th birthday. His love and caring for people remained a constant throughout his illness, just as it had been throughout his life. Prayers will be said on Friday, June 18 at 7:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. also at the funeral home, with Fr. Bill Wasyliw officiating. Interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Richard Zabolotny, Wayne Hamel, Phil Dembicki, Willy Herwig, Alfie Voth, and Nick Voth. Honorary pallbearers will be David Wolinsky, Costas Ataliotis and Bryan Ghidoni. HUGH PHILLIP WALKER 1930 - 2004 Hugh Phillip Walker passed away at the age of 73 years on Tuesday, June 15, 2004. He was born at home in Winnipeg on July 9, 1930 to parents, Hugh Charles and Helen Catherine Walker. Hugh will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His loving wife Lois will always cherish their 48 years together. Hugh's children, Bert (Gale), Ken (Tammy), and Sandy (Rheal) will always remember how much their father loved them; and his seven grandchildren, Colin, Ian, Derek, David, Stephanie, Ken and Carmen. "Hughie" made many lifelong friends through work and volunteering. He taught his children the importance of family, friends and community service. Hugh was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters and past president of the St. Norbert Community Club. He loved the outdoors, spending many memorable vacations with his family. Hugh retired in 1985 after several years with Jessiman Cartage Ltd. (Sears). He enjoyed many wonderful days just puttering around in the yard and skipping stones with his grandchildren in Sandy Hook. The family is grateful to the caring and dedicated staff of B Wing at the Riverview Health Centre for making Hugh so comfortable and happy. Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 18 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception will follow. Pallbearers will be Rheal Gousseau, Derek Walker, Ken Gousseau, David Walker, Ian Walker and Rick McGuff. Honorary pallbearer Colin Walker. DOROTHEA (DORA) ZBOROWSKI Dorothea (Dora) Zborowski beloved wife, sister and aunt passed away at the age of 80 years on July 15, 2004 at East View Lodge in Neepawa, MB. She is survived by her husband Walter; brother Les (Betty) Preisentanz; brother-in-law Wilfred Pelk; and her nieces and nephews. Dora was predeceased by her parents, Johann and Barbara (Buffi) Preisentanz; brothers, Albert, Fred and Ernie (Phyllis) and sister Caroline Pelk. She was born at Glenella, MB on November 27, 1923 and resided in Plumas, MB before moving to Neepawa in 1975. A celebration of Dora's life will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, Neepawa, MB on Saturday, June 19 at 2:30 p.m. Interment in Riverside Cemetery, Neepawa. LJUDEVIT BODO Peacefully on Friday, June 11, 2004 Ljudevit Bodo passed away in his sleep at home. He was predeceased by his parents, Jovan and Irma Bodo. He is survived by his beloved wife Vera and son Edward Ivan, his sister Dr. Elizabeth Hollo, and nieces Judith Schmidt and Susan Hiebert. Ljudevit was born on November 12, 1922 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. He graduated from university in Belgrade as an architectural engineer and received several competition awards during his professional career. His academic endeavours were interrupted by the Second World War during which time he was called upon for military service. He served his country until the end of the war. In 1958 he married Vera Kasanin in Belgrade and they embarked upon a life journey together which took them to Canada and they settled in Winnipeg. Ljudevit worked as an engineer, first for Peter Leach Co., then with Bert Construction, and then for Manitoba Hydro for 17 years until his retirement. Ljudevit took great interest in world affairs. He enjoyed skiing immensely in his younger years and later switched to fishing and gardening. However, his family was always his greatest passion. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Ray Singer for many years of devoted care. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 17, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. at the St. Norbert Parish, 80 rue St. Pierre St. with interment to follow in the St. Norbert Cemetery. IVAN BOGUT 1945 - 2004 Suddenly on June 12, 2004 at his residence. Ivan was born on May 26, 1945, in a beautiful picturesque town of Slunj, D. Taboriste, Croatia. He enjoyed swimming and fishing in the Korana River. He left home at a young age to pursue a better life (after being offered a car to marry a young lady). He worked in Zagreb for a few years, then Germany, finally ending up in Winnipeg where he worked in the construction industry. He loved life, enjoyed playing Bocci ball at the Croatian picnic, where he also met his future wife, Nada. He enjoyed reading, travelling and having a great time, going to the Croatian Zabava with friends and family and dancing all night with a smile on his face. Ivan was a respectful and respected person, touching a lot of lives. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. LAURA KERR Peacefully on October 10, 1999 at the Grace Hospital, after a long struggle with cancer, Laura left us. She was predeceased by her husband Bill Kerr, brother Archibald Jackson and sister Margaret Hobbs. She is survived by her sisters, Dugalda Dugie Robinson of The Pas and Joan Joanie Jackson of Toronto; as well as her extended family, the Kirtons; and many nieces and nephews. Laura grew up in The Pas and came into Winnipeg to pursue her nursing career; she graduated as Registered Nurse and worked for many years in this field. Laura also grew up around horses and was passionate in her love of riding; she was an accomplished equestrian and won many awards. Laura leaves us with a legacy of goodwill and kindness to others. She was a volunteer of the No. 1 Royal Canadian Legion's Hospital Committee for years. She received the Provincial Government's Volunteer of the Year award for all that she had done. This gentle soul will be greatly missed by all her relatives and friends. Our peace will come from knowing she is once again with Uncle Bill and happy. A memorial service will be held at Kerr's Funeral Chapel, 120 Adelaide St., on Friday, October 15 at 2:00 p.m. A private interment took place at Brookside Cemetery. RITA CADIEUX (nee DURAND) November 30, 1908 - June 13, 2004 Rita Cadieux passed away peacefully and went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, June 13, 2004. Rita was predeceased by her husband Raymond and her two sons, Henry and Denis and by her great-grandson Raymond. Rita leaves to mourn her passing her children, Edgar (Bertha), Lucette (Victor), Charlotte, Mariette (Jack), and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A celebration of her life will be held at Precieux Sang Pariosse, (Precious Blood Parish), 200 Kenny St., Saturday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be Guy Cadieux, Daniel Molin, Todd Mrygold, Brent Gillon, Nigel Fortlage and Doug Bushie.
