CLARA SCHADE

June 16, 2004

CLARA SCHADE (nee KOSCHINSKY) Peacefully, on Sunday June 13, 2004 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Clara Schade passed away surrounded by family after a long and courageous battle with numerous health problems. Clara was born November 1, 1916 in Jansen, SK. She was raised on the family farm eventually coming to Winnipeg where she met her husband John. They married in 1942 and remained together for 45 years. Mom was the true strength of our family. Her joy was in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was always there to support them. In her earlier years, she loved to get the family together for Sunday dinners. All who knew Mom said she was a compassionate person whose courage and cheerfulness in the presence of her own illnesses was a great inspiration and help to others. Clara made many friends in her Westwood Estates home. She enjoyed many evenings with them playing cards and Scrabble. She was very competitive and always played to win. If you won, you did so on your own merit and abilities. Her family was subject to the same high standards. For the past 17 years, Clara was a member of the Oakview Place Day Program. She made many friends there and enjoyed all the activities arranged by the program coordinators. Bowling and darts were among her favourites. Clara also enjoyed the simple pleasures in life such as a perfect sunset or full moon viewed from the balcony of her home as well as the sound of songbirds at the lake. Clara was predeceased by her husband John in 1987; brothers, Robert, Joseph, William, Theodor, Henry (Gladys), Gustav (Linda); sister Lena (Herb); her parents, Otto and Wilhelmina Koschinsky; and her parents-in-law, Ludwig and Ottilie Schade. Clara is survived by her son Ron (Ruth), grandchildren, Darren, Karen (Bruce) and Brenda; her son Allen (Lynne), grandchildren, Janet (Lawrence), Richard, and great-grandchildren, Daniel and Kathleen; her son Gary and grandchildren, Corbin and Jamieson. She is also survived by her brother Herman. Also left to mourn are many extended family members including in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Pallbearers will be Gordon Koshinsky, Gary Koshinsky, Darren Schade, Richard Schade, Lawrence Marino, and Bruce Thomson. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit for the wonderful care and concern given to Mom in her final days. Thanks also to the home care staff who cared for her while she was still resident in her home. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 17 at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 560 Arlington St., with interment at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Clara's memory to the Banner and Parament Fund, Lutheran Church of the Cross, 560 Arlington St., Winnipeg, MB R3G 1Z5. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200

KAREN SCHRAM

June 16, 2004

KAREN (CARRIE) SCHRAM On Monday, June 14, 2004 Karen slipped away peacefully at the Holy Family Nursing Home. Karen's parents immigrated to Canada with her siblings in 1917 from Norway, settling near Endeavour, SK. Mom eventually settled in Winnipeg where she met and married Ed Schram. Mom was a wonderful woman who would share anything she had with others. Her family came first; this was very evident when her daughter Karen passed away, she then raised her grandson Jesse. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Ed; one sister Jurdice; three brothers, Leif, Carston and Ralph. Mom leaves to cherish her memory her children; daughter Linda, and son Ron; grandson Jesse; two sisters, Ruth Olson and Elsie Carlson; sister-in-law Kay Olsen; nieces, nephews and their respective families. Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Knysh Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main St. Interment at Brookside Cemetery. We the family would like to thank the staff of the Holy Family Nursing Home for all the love and care they gave our mother during her stay there. In lieu of flowers if friends so desire donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Society. "We will miss your smile, and your sunshine Mom and Grandma." Love, Linda, Ralph and Jesse. EDWARD SHAW

June 16, 2004

EDWARD JAMES SHAW Ted passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks General Hospital on Saturday, June 12, 2004 after a lengthy illness. Born in Brantford, Ontario on April 28, 1921, Ted was predeceased by his father, James Maitland Shaw; his mother, Bertha (nee Kennedy); stepmother, Helen; and his cousin, Chris Hoggard, who was like a sister to him. Ted is survived by his loving wife, Virginia (nee George); son Jim (Susan); daughter Sally Dick (Don); and sister-in-law Mercedes Steeds (Ken). He will also be sadly missed by his grandchildren Jamie and Jennifer Shaw, and Paul and Andrew Dick, along with several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. First and foremost, Ted was a devoted family man. He and Virginia enjoyed a loving relationship based on mutual respect for almost 55 years. Above all, Ted wanted his loved ones to be happy. He always had helpful tips and suggestions to make life easier. He put family interests above his own and was a strong guiding hand for all of us. His grandchildren were a constant source of joy for Ted. He loved to hear about their achievements and aspirations. They, in turn, enjoyed listening to him relate stories about his interesting life. In the business realm, Ted had a long and successful career in retail. He worked for the Metropolitan Stores of Canada for 48 years, rising to the position of superintendent. He mastered every aspect of the business and achieved record sales year after year when he managed the store at Portage and Carleton. Ted served in the Royal Canadian Navy for four years during the Second World War. He spent most of his time on a Corvette escorting convoys across the North Atlantic. When reminiscing about the war, Ted downplayed the perilous situations he frequently experienced, preferring to share with family and friends many humourous anecdotes about the lighter side of life in the Navy. In many respects, Ted was a multi-talented individual. He could draft detailed blueprints and had quite a flair for sketching. He also had a remarkable talent for woodworking and a knack for fixing things. Ted was a very sociable person with a terrific sense of humour. He lived a life full of faith and optimism. He was a good man. Those who knew him well will cherish his memory. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 18, at St. James Presbyterian Church, 1476 Portage Ave., commencing at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Beth McCutcheon officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ted's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. The family wishes to extend its deepest gratitude to Dr. Rabson, Dr. Bland and the team of caregivers at Seven Oaks General Hospital for their exceptional care, compassion and support.
