Diane Carswell

January 26, 2002

DIANE M. CARSWELL (WALTERSON) (nee ROUSSON) It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Diane, on January 25, 2002, at the Riverview Health Centre. Diane was predeceased by her father Cleophas Rousson of Oak Lake, MB; her first husband Wally Walterson; her daughters, Michelle and Tammy; and a great-nephew. Left to mourn her passing are her husband Ken of Winnipeg; mother Marguerite; brother Paul and sister-in-law Margaret-Ann; nephew Dean (Bev) and great-niece Ashley, all of Oak Lake; niece Shannon of Calgary, AB; as well as many other relatives and friends. Diane was born April 28, 1947, at Virden, MB, and was raised on the family farm Southwest of Oak Lake. She received her education at Sandhurst Country School, St. Michael's Academy, Brandon, and at Marvel School of Hair Design, Winnipeg, and worked in Winnipeg until her retirement in 1995. Ken and Diane were married on September 30, 1995 and spent six happy years together. They enjoyed golfing with friends in Phoenix and time at their Grand Beach cabin. A special thank-you to her friends Holli Roland and Janet Hare who travelled from the U.S.A. to visit with Diane during her last days. We also wish to thank the unbelievable staff at Riverview for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Diane during her stay. At Diane's request cremation has taken place. Interment will be held in Oak Lake at a later date. A service of remembrance will be held on Tuesday, January 29 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Flowers are gratefully declined but should friends so desire, donations in Diane's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice. Bik Chin

BIK FONG CHIN On January 24, 2002, our beloved wife, mother and grandmother Bik Fong Chin left this life peacefully to be with our Lord. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Kee Ove Chin; and their five children, Helen (Harry), Sandy (Ramon), Irene, George (Lorrie), and Elaine (Sean). She will be dearly missed by her seven grandchildren, Winnie, Jennifer, Elisa, Christopher, Alexander, Nicolas and Braeden. She is also survived by her brother Kwok F. Gee, his wife and her nieces and nephews. She was born in Canton, China, on June 2, 1930, and came to Canada in 1969. She was a caring, devoted wife and mother and a proud and doting grandmother to all her grandchildren. Viewing will be held on Monday, January 28 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29 at Winnipeg Chinese Alliance Church, 261 Colony St. Interment to follow the service at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Refreshments will be served following at the Glen Lawn Reception Centre. The family wishes to thank Dr. C. Yeung, the nursing and support staff on Unit 3 at Victoria General Hospital, as well as the elders and pastoral staff at Winnipeg Chinese Alliance Church. Randle Clark

RANDLE (RANDY) CLARK It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden death of Randy Clark, aged 60, who passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2002 at his residence. Randy will be lovingly remembered by Joan Swirski, his soulmate, his partner and best friend for the past 20 years, also her son Scott, Randy's sons, Paul (Jackie), and Jeff (Shana); and grandchildren, Samantha, Sydney and Shoal; sisters, Mildred (Tom) Silvester of Winnipeg, Gayle Fix of Oak Bluff, and Faye (Jim) Wagner of Florida; Uncle Reginald Clark and Auntie June (John) Jones of Winnipeg; numerous nieces, nephews, and many personal and close friends. He was predeceased by his father, George and most recently his mother Elizabeth in the fall, 2001. His memories will be cherished by all who knew and loved him. Randy was born in Saint John, NB and moved at a very young age to Winnipeg's west end. A graduate of Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate, Randy pursued a career in Radio engineering (Neil East Broadcasting) based primarily located at CJOB, a sales career with the Winnipeg Sun and currently his own business for the last seven years - Clark Construction - contract installer with the Home Depot for their kitchen division. Randy has lived the last 30 years in the Crestview/Westwood area of St. James and was an ardent lover of the outdoors, and in particular fishing. Many hours were spent "casting a line" winter and summer. He loved his boat and enjoyed many hours cruising on the Red River through the locks into the Lockport and Selkirk areas as well West Hawk Lake. Randy was a super/duper handyman and was always ready to give someone building advice, the swing of a hammer, or the cut of a saw whenever he was asked. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Randy's life will take place on Monday, January 28 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. officiated by Rev. Ken Innes. A reception will to follow. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8. Lorraine Crapper

LORRAINE LOUISE CRAPPER (nee HOWISON) Peacefully, on January 20, 2002, at the Grace General Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer, it is with deep regret that we announce the death of Lorraine Louise Crapper at the age of 69 years. Leaving to forever cherish her memory are her husband Ron, son Doug and daughter-in-law Mary Nemeth, and granddaughter Katherine. Lorraine's lifelong interest in music was expressed as a member of a high school marching band at North Toronto Collegiate, her leadership in the Harmony Helpers support group for the Barbershop Harmony Society, and her enjoyment of the symphony, all activities she shared with her husband Ron, of 45 years of marriage. Her 15 years of experience as Payroll Supervisor for Proctor & Gamble in Toronto prepared her for the administrative responsibilities she performed in the family company, Total Data Products, she and Ron operated in Winnipeg for nearly 20 years. In recent years, Lorraine volunteered her services for the Christmas Cheer Board and Children's Hospital Gift Shop, including countless hours of knitting, all of these were a big part of her life. Her favourite pastimes included bowling, where she was always happy with the company, if not her scores, time at the cottage where there was usually a jigsaw puzzle in progress, and lots of reading. A service of remembrance will be held on Friday, February 15 at 2:00 p.m in Deer Lodge United Church, 2093 Portage Ave. at Belvidere Street, Winnipeg, MB. Our family would like to thank all the staff at the Grace Hospital in the Palliative Care and Oncology Departments for their care and comfort during the last months of Lorraine's life. Aileen Crease

AILEEN CREASE Peacefully on Thursday, January 24, 2002 at the Victoria Hospital Aileen Crease passed away at the age of 86 years. Aileen was born in Winnipeg in 1915 to Alex and Julia Laing. She was predeceased by sisters, Margaret, Jennifer and Amy; and by brother Alec; and her husband Erick. She is survived by her three children, Fred (Diane) and children, Erica and Alex, Tom (Debbie) and children, Heather and Michelle, and Judy Whitmore and children, Stephen and Christopher and their father Rod. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Cullen and Simon; along with sisters, Isabel and Anne; and close friend Leith Dunsmore. Aileen was a loving, wise and gentle wife and mother whose home was always warm and welcoming to family and friends. She took much joy in sewing and knitting for her children and grandchildren. For many years, Aileen enjoyed the Greenwood Church Square Dance Club and the small social group which evolved from that. She was active in the Wolesley Community at Wolesley School, Greenwood United Church and canvassing for various charitable organizations. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102 - 310 Broadway, R3C 9Z9, or a charity of choice. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 29 at McClure United Church, 533 Greenwood Pl. with the Reverends Wendy Rankin and Bill Miller officiating. EDMOND DESJARLAIS 1950 - 2002 Peacefully at his home on January 24, 2002, Edmond passed away. Edmond was predeceased by his parents, Alice and Joseph. Leaving to mourn are sisters, Marcy Day (Matthew), Leona Nolin and brother Edward along with many nieces and nephews. JAMES CECIL DEW 1908 - 2002 Peacefully, at the age of 93, on January 24, 2002 at the Selkirk General Hospital, Cecil passed away with his loving wife of 59 years and his family by his side. Cecil was predeceased by his parents, son Wayne, brother Colin (Evelyn) and four sisters Doris (Herb), Connie (Ed), Margaret and Phyllis (Ted). Cecil is survived by his wife Evelyn; son Lyle (Debbie); daughter Myrna (Ken); daughter-in-law Marilyn (Tom); grandchildren, Murray (Trudy); Michelle (Darrell); Doug (Jill); Keri (Adam); Bret; step-grandchildren, Chrystal (Brent); Shyla (John); step great-grandchildren, Brett, Tyler, Seth, Mason; brother Alan (Anna); sister-in-law Marion (Lloyd); brother-in-law Al and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Cecil was born September 28, 1908 in Winnipeg and was raised on the original Dew homestead, some three miles outside the village of Woodlands.He farmed until 1948 and then took employment with the R.M. of Woodlands until 1967. He moved from the Woodlands area to the town of Stonewall in December, 1964. He then entered employment with the town in 1967 until his retirement. In his younger days Cecil was an accomplished sportsman in baseball, and hockey and in later years in curling. Cecil was always active in community affairs. He was a longstanding member of the Masonic Lodge; Order of the Eastern Star and an honorary member of the Stonewall Legion. The family would like to kindly thank all the homecare nurses and workers for their excellent care, the staff at Red River Place Seniors Home and the doctors, nurses and staff at Selkirk General Hospital for the superior care Cecil received during the last months of his life. Prayers and viewing will be held on Monday, January 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 29 at 2:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall with Rev. Mary Best officiating. Reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion. Margaret Dowling

MARGARET JO DOWLING Margaret Jo Dowling was a dancer. One of her great joys in life was being a Rockette at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. As her daughters, we recall her dancing with our father. They danced the foxtrot and made heads turn when they moved gracefully across the ballroom floor. Jo did Irish dancing with a group of friends in Florida where she lived. She danced through life with elegance, grace and rhythm. Her family was central in her life. She loved being surrounded by all of them. Jo passed away peacefully in the home of her daughter Diane on Friday, January 25, 2002, when she went to join her husband Ed up in heaven where they are now dancing together again. She is survived by daughters, Maureen (Mrs. Robert Paulson) of New York City, and Diane (Mrs Irvin J. Kroeker) of Winnipeg. Her grandchildren are Josh, Luke and Jake Paulson of New York City, Kirsten (Mrs. Bryan Albo) of Winnipeg, Lara (partner of Loc Doa) of Vancouver, and Rebecca of Winnipeg. Her great-grandchildren are Justin and Brendan Albo, sons of Kirsten, and Zoe Dao-Kroeker, daughter of Lara. Her memorial service is Friday, February 1, at 1:00 pm in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 256 Smith St. in Winnipeg. Viewing in the church begins one-half hour before the memorial service. If friends desire donations may be made to Holy Trinity Anglican Church, R3C 1J8. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
