ABRAM (ABE) KRUEGER
June 28, 1924 - May 8, 2003
Abram (Abe) Krueger peacefully passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, in Steinbach, Man.
He is survived by his loving wife Anne of 56 years. He is also survived by his children, Judy (Cliff) Walker, Shirley, Jim (Kellie), Margaret (Norman) Lamb, Ruth, John (Priscilla), Tim (Corinne), Rick (Natalie); 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother and numerous nieces and nephews.
Abe was born and raised in the village of Neubergthal. During his later working years he was employed at Air Canada till his retirement in 1986. He always had time for family activities and was actively involved in Canadian Sunday School Mission as a board member for 30 years; as well as interests in many other missions. In his retirement years he enjoyed his woodworking hobbies.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Krahn and the excellent Home Care personnel for their compassion.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, May 13 at the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church, Steinbach, Man. Interment at Heritage Cemetery.

PAUL WERESTIUK
Peacefully at Vita and District Health Centre, May 13, 2003, Paul Werestiuk of Winnipeg, Man., formerly of Sundown, Man., passed away at the age of 64.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Kathy; and his two daughters, Gale (Tim) Burridge of Winnipeg, and Carol Swerid of Winnipeg; and his seven grandchildren: Amanda, Staci and Christina and Travis, Alyssa, Blayze and Shyana. He is also survived by his mother Jean Werestiuk; brothers: Mike (Jean), Bill (Helen), Stan (Daphne), Nick; and sister Mary (Jim) Symynyshen; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Michael in 1980.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Karen Humphreys for her compassionate care and the staff of Vita and District Health Centre for their support during this difficult time. ADELARD JOSEPH NAULT
Adelard Nault died peacefully, with his family at his side, Saturday, May 3, 2003 at the Dryden Regional Health Centre.
Adelard was born in Richer, Man., Sept. 27, 1926. His family moved to Vermillion Bay, Ont. in the 1960s, where Adelard worked for the Dryden Paper Company. He retired from Avenor and continued to live in Vermillion Bay.
Adelard loved gardening. He was especially fond of landscaping and continued to assist in maintaining the grounds at the Vermillion Bay Seniors' Complex. Adelard also enjoyed carpentry work. During his lifetime, he built several houses and continued working with wood well into retirement. He will be remembered for his quiet and gentle manner, his devotion to his family, and the sparkle in his eye when he teased.
Adelard was predeceased by his wife, Irene, and his brother, Ernest. He is survived by brothers, Ted (Lillian), Albert (Ann); sisters, Annette Harder, Aline Laberge (Georges), Evelyn Curtaz, Lucienne Saindon (Fernand); sister-in-law Bernadette; children, George, Claude (Doreen), Guy (Yvonne), Lena Anderson (Ken), Denis (Jennifer); and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Adelard will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
In accordance with Adelard's wishes, cremation has taken place and the private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
HELEN FUNK
Oct. 26, 1931 - April 30, 2003
We, the family, thank our Heavenly Father for taking Helen Funk home to Heaven on April 30, 2003, after a lengthy illness. Helen (Ginter) Funk died peacefully with her family in attendance at home in Niverville, Man.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Susan Ginter; and siblings, Katherine and Jackie. She is survived by her husband Abe Funk; her sister Margaret (Les) Magnusson; and her 11 children, David Funk, Jo Anne Malkov, Shirley (Daniel) Rockwell, Mary Funk, Catherine Bergman, Danny (Dianne) Funk, Ruth (Gerald) Enns, Jonathon Funk, Grace (Pat) Molyneaux, Andrew Funk, Timothy Funk. Helen has 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Helen Funk was born in 1931 in the Horndean area near Altona, Man., and lived in numerous parts of Manitoba during her lifetime, most recently making her residence in Niverville. Helen was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Helen truly loved the Lord and was a faithful witness to friends and family alike. She is now rejoicing in Heaven with her precious Lord.
The family extend their deepest gratitude to all the staff in the St Boniface and Bethesda Hospitals. Special thanks goes to the St Pierre Palliative Care Unit for their support and help during Helen's illness so that she was able to live out her last days at home, where she wanted to be.
In honor of Helen Funk, a memorial service was held Sunday, May 4, 2003, at the Birchwood Funeral Chapel of Steinbach, Man.
RAYMOND EDWARD PHILLIPS
Raymond Edward Phillips passed away peacefully at his home, May 2, 2003, in his 67th year.
He was predeceased by his parents, James and Madeleine Phillips; and brother Norman.
Ray will be forever remembered by his loving wife Clara; son Ronald (Kirsten); daughter Janice Laurin (Pierre); grandchildren, Roger and Nicolle Laurin; brother, Allan (Annette), and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Saturday, May 10, 2003, 1 p.m., at the Ste Anne Roman Catholic Church, with Father Rene Chartier officiating. Pallbearer will be Roger Laurin; honorary pallbearers are Elie Fillion, Reg Hart, Aaron Ross, Donat Tetreault.
Special thanks to the staff at Ste Anne Hospital, Home Care and Dr. J.J. Gobeil.

SYLVIA C. MILLER
1943 - 2003
The family of Sylvia Miller, beloved wife of David Miller, sadly announces her sudden passing Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at the Grace General Hospital.
Sylvia was predeceased by her mother, Helen Schellenberg (nee Breyfogle) in 1991 and by her father, Donald Smith in 1995. Sylvia will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her husband, David, her best friend and companion of 40 years; stepfather Bill Schellenberg; stepmother Joyce Smith; sister Dawn-Ellen Smith; brothers, David (Maureen) of Red Deer, Alta., and Rick (Janet) of Marchand, Man.; sisters-in-law, Dolly Saltasuk, Sylvia Miller, and Suzanne Blondeel (Pat); brothers-in-law, Bob and Lenore Miller; George Miller (Mary Ann), James Miller (Mary Lynne), William Miller (Bernadette), and Jerrold Miller; stepsisters, Wanda Schellenberg, Sandy Klassen (Brian), Carol Loewen (Fred), and Shirley Rempel (Don); stepbrothers, Curtis Schellenberg (Adina), Kelly Schellenberg (Sandra), Barry Schellenberg (Dianne), Dale Schellenberg (Julie), John Schellenberg (Laurel), and Don Schellenberg (Faye); many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
All who knew Sylvia remembered her. With her long career at the Bank of Montreal of 41 years, she is well known in the Winnipeg community. She enjoyed being active in anything she was involved in, usually volunteering her time to any cause she felt needed her. She was a long-time board member for Harstone United Church and church treasurer. Recently, she was the president of the Agape Villa Residents Association for two years. Bowling was her sport and Wednesday and Friday nights you knew that you could find her at Empress Lanes. Unless of course, they were in Hawaii, or Jamaica, or Europe. Travel was her passion and she lived for her month-long stays in Hawaii. She was meant to have been born on a beach.
Sylvia grew up and lived on the family farm in Otterburne, Man. and later lived with her mother at her grandfather Breyfogle's dairy farm at Union Point. She moved to Winnipeg, Man. in 1960, where she met Dave. They married on a beautiful day on Oct. 6, 1962. They were blessed with the companionship of four wonderful cats over the years: Condor, Missy, Puff, and will be missed by Snoops.
Sylvia's hearty laugh was always heard at every gathering she attended. She loved to be with family and friends, days at the cottage or just a time spent having tea with her friends. Her generous heart and caring spirit is her legacy to us all.
Special thanks to Dr. Oscar Domke and the staff at the Emergency and Observation Units of the Grace General Hospital.
A memorial service celebrating Sylvia's life was held at 3 p.m., Monday, May 5, 2003 at the Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Dr., Winnipeg. A family interment was held at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave.

KENNETH MARTIN BARKMAN
With sadness we announce the passing of Kenneth Martin Barkman on May 5, 2003 at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon, Sask., after a lengthy and courageous battle against cancer.
Ken took his last breath while embracing his wife Bonnie, daughter Loralee and son Jon. He will also be dearly missed by his father David; siblings, Murray (Marg), Sid (Sylvia), Elaine (Tom Beckett), Kelvin (Lucy), Rick (AJ) and Miranda (Brad Thiessen); as well as Bonnie's mother, Doreen Hall and family, Carol (Rob Johnston), Jan (Delory Nestibo), Merla Myers, Greg (Renae), Brad (Tanis); and many nieces and nephews.
Ken was predeceased by his father-in-law, Kenneth Ross Hall; and his mother, Annie Barkman.
Born Dec. 11, 1951 to David and Annie Barkman in Steinbach, Man., Ken grew up in the Giroux area, where he also received his early education. He later attended Central Pentecostal College and also studied at the University of Manitoba. In 1973 Ken was married to Bonnie Hall and they would have celebrated 30 years of marriage in November of this year.
Throughout his life Ken showed an interest in pursuing a variety of careers. But with building construction as his career of choice, he established his business of home building in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and most recently in Fort McMurray, Alta.
The memory of Ken's faith, friendship, sense of humor, generous spirit and wisdom for life will remain forever in the hearts of all who loved him.
Funeral services will be held at Springs Church, 179 Chapel Drive, Steinbach, Man., at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2003. Pastor Eldon Schultz of Saskatoon will be officiating. Interment to follow at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach.
Viewing will take place at Loewen Funeral Chapel on May 9, 2003 at 7 p.m.

LYDIA PENNER
Peacefully, May 4, 2003, at Bethesda Place, with her loving husband of 56 years and her family at her side, Lydia Penner went to be with her Jesus at the age of 77.
She will be sadly missed by her husband Peter; children, Herman (Eva) of Steinbach, Man., Hilda (Gary) Richardson of The Pas, Man., Ken (Debbie) of Steinbach, Lois (Jerry) Dorn of Indonesia, Joyce (Peter) Schroeder of Mitchell, Man., George (Annemarie) of Niverville, Man., Marc (friend Val) of Steinbach; 26 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; her brother Jake; sisters, Annie, Lena and Nettie; six sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law.
Mom was born in Bowen Koy, Russia on May 20, 1925. She came to Canada when she was four months old, with her family, and they settled in Wishart, Sask. She was baptized at age 13 in Meaks Lake. Mom is remembered by her sisters as loving, and their music group would not be complete without her guitar and her singing. Many evenings were spent at home and at church singing together as sisters.
June 23, 1946, at the Stone Church in Wishart, Mom and Dad were married. They lived in Leslie for two years, then moved to Steinbach, where they bought a small farm in the Ekron District. They lived here for 45 years and raised their seven children here. Mom took a nurses aid training and became certified. She worked hard as a home care worker for 26 years and retired at age 67.
Mom was noted for her smile and generous hospitality. She prepared the greatest meals. Mom took pride in gardening, sewing, knitting and caring for others. Her favorite hobby was collecting her many salt and pepper shakers.
Dad and Mom sold the farm and have lived in Steinbach for the past seven years.
A very special thanks to the kind and gentle care given to her by the staff at Bethesda Place (Prairie Rose Pod). Many of the workers used to be Mom's co-workers and we thank you greatly.
The funeral service was held May 7, 2003 at Springs Church in Steinbach. Interment at Heritage Cemetery.

1925 - 2003
Tuesday, May 6, 2003, Helena Reimer of Kleefeld, Man. passed away at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Man. at the age of 78.
Helena was predeceased by her husband Peter and one grandchild Brian. She is survived by four children and their families: Ron (Janet) and David of Winnipeg, Man.; Olga (Larry) Kroeker, Mike (Joyce) and Phil of Kleefeld; Ray (Lorena), Tracy (Michael) and Tara of Winnipeg; Linda (Norm) Schellenberg of Kleefeld; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral service will be held Monday, May 12, 2:30 p.m., at the Evangelical Mennonite Church, Kleefeld, with viewing prior to the service. Interment in the churchyard cemetery.

ELIZABETH J. TOEWS
1911 - 2003
Elizabeth Toews was called home by her Lord Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at Bethesda Place nursing home, Steinbach, Man., at the age of 91 years.
Left to mourn her passing is one sister Helena; three nephews, Arnold (Betty-Lou) Toews, Bill (Dayle) Toews and John Unger; one niece, Frances (Steve) Rice; and their families. Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Agnes (Frank) Unger and Mary Toews; and two brothers, Jacob (Helen) Toews and Peter Toews.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 10, 2 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach. Viewing will be one half hour prior to the service.
A special, heartfelt thank-you to the staff at Bethesda Place for the wonderful care they have given to Elizabeth.
