GLADSTONE: Cecil Lawrence Gladstone of Brandon, Manitoba, passed away with his family at his side at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, February 26th, 2009.
Cec was born in Boissevain, MB on June 10th, 1929. There, he began his education but left school early to start a life-long career in construction, carpentry and cabinet making. While living in Boissevain, he met and married Mary Elizabeth Ramsey and they began their family with the birth of daughter, Maureen, before moving to Brandon. There, he spent the majority of his working life with the B&B of the Canadian Pacific Railway and was known for his exceptional wood working skills.
Cec and Mary were very social people making many lasting friendships at the curling rink, as members of the Legion and ANAF and summers at their cottage at Ditch Lake.
Cec was a strong believer in the work of A.A. He gave back as much as he could by working tirelessly with the fellowship and his home group making sure meeting rooms were open, coffee was made, assisting with conferences, working as treasurer and most importantly, helping others as a sponsor.
He enjoyed outings to the Thresherman's Reunion, family reunions and visiting friends and family and cared deeply for the welfare of others. His personal needs always came second.
Cec will be fondly remembered by daughter Maureen, grandson Larry (Caralee) and great grandchildren Jessica and Brady, sons Jim (Allison) and Dan.
He was predeceased by Mary, his wife of 46 years, parents Alena and Arthur Fredrick Gladstone, brothers Albert, Jim, Bob and Charles and many lifelong friends, co-workers and relatives.
Funeral services were held at the Brockie Donovan Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 with Arlene Robertson and Rachelle Wilk officiating, followed by a private family interment at the Brandon Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were Lynn Flewitt, Mark Morgan, Gord Nelson, Larry Marsh, Dan Gladstone and Jim Gladstone with Hank and Bill as Honorary Pallbearers.
If friends so desire, donations may be made in Cec's memory to the Salvation Army, 9 Princess Ave East, Brandon Manitoba, R7A 1R8, Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation "Palliative Care", 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon Manitoba, R7A 2B3 or to a charity of choice.
The family would like to pass on their utmost gratitude and respect to the entire staff on A3 for the care and support they show for all their patients and families.

GRIMSHAW: Betty Irene Grimshaw passed away suddenly and peacefully with family by her side at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday, December 15, 2008 at the age of 94 years. Mom was born in 1914 on the family farm in the Daly District north of Brandon, daughter of Anna Mary and John Windover. She attended the district school. After completing her schooling, she worked for some of the neighbors looking after their children and the daily chores. Later, she worked for the Burns Company on Pacific Avenue grading eggs. She met and married Stanley (Jim) Grimshaw and together they raised three daughters, Gail, Doreen & Debbie. Mom also looked after approximately (37) foster children, one being in her care for 3 years. In the early 50’s, we girls decided to get into showing ponies as Dad had bought us a pony, and a little dog, on his return from the war. Naturally, we had to have mom and dad haul us all over Manitoba, buy feed, care for the ponies and everything else that goes with having animals, but lucky for us, they enjoyed taking part. When her grandchildren were born, Rodney, Sherry, & Corey, her attention was taken with all three babysitting, playing, and buying them whatever they wanted. When Sherry got interested in the horses, mom used to love coming to all the fairs with us helping and sitting down chatting with all the friends we had met. As the years went by and the grandchildren grew up, as luck would have it, in 1994, she was a Great Gramma to Nicholas, Sherry's first son and in 1997, along came her second great grandson, brother to Nicholas, Brenden. Now she could have more children to spoil and play whatever games they wanted to play. With Rodney’s marriage to Sandee, she was lucky enough to gain two step great granddaughters, Julia and Rachel. With mom, the more the merrier, and she always got a kick out of Corey’s big orange loveable cat. Mom loved messing around in the flowers, cutting grass, and doing whatever she could find to do outside, if all else failed, she could always con you into painting. Mom loved the outdoors. She would play ball, ride horses, ride snow-machines and just act like the rest of us over-grown kids along with the real kids. At this time of the year, her favorite thing was making Christmas puddings. We would drive in to pick her up for shopping and out she would come with a little dish and a spoon full of each one of the puddings to try. When she was satisfied with the puddings, it was on to the same thing with the sauce. One was never enough and it always had to be perfect, and always was perfect! She loved to cook and bake and did so in the very best fashion She was always there to listen to our problems and happy times. Her support like everything else was always 100%. Mom belonged to all the horse and pony clubs we could muster up for her and really enjoyed being an active member in The Brandon Pony Club, The Light Horse Society, Manitoba Gymkana Association, The Girls Barrel Racing, and anything else we could volunteer her for. Mom was also a member of Central United Church. Her favorite thing was her annual Picnic Birthday Party which we did every year, unless the odd time the weather forced us to improvise. Mom was predeceased by her husband Jim in 1983, her brother Jack Windover, sisters Evelyn, Grace and Lorraine, niece Jackie Edwards, brothers-in-law Gordon Gerry, Ralph Porteous and sister-in-law Minnie Bajus. She is survived by her three daughters Gail (George) Miller, Doreen (Russell) Little and Debbie (Jim) Quintaine, grandson Rodney Miller and wife Sandee, great granddaughters Julia and Rachel; granddaughter Sherry Howard and great grandsons Nicholas and Brenden and grandson Corey Quintaine. A private graveside service was held on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at the Brandon Cemetery with Rev. Shannon McCarthy of Central United Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Westman Dreams For Kids Foundation, Unit 203, 37-11th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 4J2 or Dinsdale Personal Care Home, 510 – 6th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 3N9.
We love you and will miss you ever so much Mom.
You will always be in our hearts and minds.
Love your Family.

Edith, her twin May, and 3 other sisters were born and raised in Winnipeg, MB. As a young girl, Edith was an avid speed skater participating in many local competitions. There was often shared banter between Bill and Edith until he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant, marginally outranking Edie.
Edith and Bill where active square dancers, bowlers and church participants. Church bake sales looked forward to the pies she would donate which would be spoken for well ahead of sale time and on occasion would have to be auctioned off.
In 1967 Edith and Bill moved from Shilo to Brandon to a small acreage where gardening became a passion and weekly farmers markets a routine thru harvest time. Each summer the family would enjoy a camping vacation with Edith an eager participant and game for almost any outdoor adventure.
As the family grew older Edith and Bill would take a early vacation to visit family in other provinces including regular trips to Kansas City, MO to visit her twin May. As grandchildren came along Sunday family dinners became the norm. Edith doing the baking, and Bill cooking the main meal.
Edith was an active member of the Christian Women’s League for many years and remained a faithful servant of God and the church to the end attending church services and receiving communion regularly.

HARRIS: Kenneth Howard Harris passed away at his home, near Brandon, on Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at the age of 84 years. Ken was born April 3, 1922 on the family farm in the former Glen Souris District, south east of Brandon, where he still resided at his passing. Ken’s childhood was spent helping out his parents on the farm. He attended school at the Blythe School, located approximately a mile and a half from his home. Ken continued to farm with his father after he had left school. It was a mixed grain farm, with cattle. Ken eventually gave up the cattle by the early 1980s and retired from farming in 1994. He also owned and operated a sand and gravel pit. Ken very much enjoyed this work, selling, not only to neighbours, but contractors, as far away as Winnipeg. He retired partially from the gravel business in the 1990s after selling the pit, but continued to help out as long as his health permitted. While working on the farm with his dad, Ken met Doreen Taylor, and they were married October 26, 1963. They raised two daughters, Susan and Shannon together on the farm. Ken shared his love of animals with his children – horses with Susan and dogs and cats with Shannon. He was also a long-standing member of the Wawanesa Game & Fish Association and held positions of president and vice president, as well as helped construct a wildlife park in Wawanesa. Ken helped organize the annual Wawanesa Game & Fish Wildlife suppers, which he attended every year with his family. He also served his community as councillor for Ward One in the Municipality of Cornwallis, a position he held from 1974 to 1986. During this time, Ken, and his wife Doreen, regularly attended the annual municipal conventions. Ken very much enjoyed the game of curling. He spent many years curling in Wawanesa, winning several tournament championships with his teammates. He curled until health would no longer allow it, but Ken would often go and watch a few games. Ken was also a lifelong hunter, and did some trapping as well. You could always find him out in the fall, hunting deer with his friends, and also, in recent years, his son-in-law, Tim. He was able to bring home a few trophy heads for his efforts. Ken always tried to take life on the lighter side. He enjoyed time with family, friends and neighbours. There were card games with neighbours and some Saturday nights in Wawanesa where a few antics were carried out in fun. Ken was able to see most of Canada on travels with his family. Most of this time was spent in Ontario and Saskatchewan, but he had been from B.C. and Alberta to The Maritimes and Newfoundland. His travels continued at home as well. Ken was often seen driving around the neighbourhood in his truck – just to see what was happening. He also spent his retirement, most mornings, at the coffee shop in Brandon, sharing some laughs with longtime friends. Ken will be remembered as a wonderful, caring husband and father. He was a loyal and trusting friend. Ken was a bright light in all of our lives and will be missed dearly. He is survived by his wife, Doreen; daughters: Susan Harris of Brandon and Shannon (Tim) Mayo of Brandon; grandsons: Kyle Harris, Tyler Mayo and Parker Mayo and sister, Irene (Charles) Zinck of Ottawa. Ken was predeceased by his mother, Lillian (1952) and his father, Cyril (1976). A funeral service, celebrating Ken’s life, was held on Monday, November 6, 2006 at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, followed by interment at the Brandon Cemetery. A reading was given by Roxanne Seymour and the urn bearer was John Seymour. Both thought of Ken as a "Dad". Honorary pallbearers were all in attendance. Donations, in memory of Ken, may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation (Cancer Services), 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3 or to the Manitoba Lung Association, 8-940 Princess Ave., Brandon, MB R7A 0P6.
