Cedric H. Baird

Cedric H. Baird of Fredericton, NB, passed away early Friday, January 24th, 2003 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born in Fredericton, NB in 1919, he was the son of the late Samuel and Celia (MacDougal) Baird, the husband of Dorothy M. (Carr) Baird.

Cedric spent most of his life managing S.S. Baird & Sons Ltd (Construction and Trucking Company) with his brother Roy. His great loves in life were his family and music. Cedric was a member of numerous Fredericton choirs including that of St. Paul’s United Church.

Cedric is survived by his wife, Dorothy, two sons, David (Mary) of Miramichi, NB and Brian (Sheila) of Fredericton, NB; one daughter, Wendy Baird of Quispamsis, NB; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three bothers, Malcolm of Coburg, ON, Lloyd of Sarnia , ON and Roy “Torchie” (Ester) of Moncton, NB and one aunt Muriel Ferguson of Fredericton, NB.

Predeceased by his parents, one sister, Marion Scott.

There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Sunday, January, 26th , 2003 at 2:00 pm . Rev. Gil MacKenzie will officiate. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish memorial tributes made to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Douglas Ross Burpee

The death of Douglas Ross Burpee of 240 Wright Street, Fredericton, NB, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2003 in his 86th year. Born in Moncton; he was the son of the late Roy and Viola (Newcomb) Burpee.

Douglas was a veteran of WWII having served overseas with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He later worked for Air Canada until he retired in 1978, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty one years Rosemary; one son, Douglas (Terry) of New Maryland; two daughters, Deborah Burpee of Vancouver, and Catherine (Andrew Tupper) of Ottawa; two grandchildren, Karen Burpee of Calgary and Ryan Burpee at home.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Elwood; two sisters, Helen and Lois.

There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Friday, July 25th, 2003 at 2:00 pm. Monsignor Brian Sheehan officiating.

Interment will be at a later date. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 will hold a tribute service following the memorial service. For those who wish, memorial tributes made to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Ruth Elizabeth Barkhouse

The death of Ruth E. Barkhouse occurred at her residence in the Mountainside Lodge, Island View, NB on Monday, July 14th, 2003.

She was the daughter of the late Charles and Annie (Stackhouse) Day and wife of the late Frank Barkhouse.

Ruth was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4, the Silver Dolphins Swim Club and the Seniors Oil Painting Class.

Survived by one son, David A. Lunn (Roselyn) of Saint John, NB; son-in-law, Ira Beattie of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Daryl Lunn (Karen) of Saint John, NB, David F. Lunn of Saint John, NB, David Beattie (Lorrie) of Fredericton, NB, Donald Beattie of Montreal, PQ and Patsy Huggan (Lyle) of Charlottetown, PEI; great-grandchildren, Travis and Trevor Lunn, Jennifer and Shawn Lunn, Tamara and Christopher Huggan and Kevin Beattie; nephews, Gerald and Vaughan Kane of Ontario and long time friends, Nina King of Lincoln, NB and Lucy Ludford of Springfield, NB.

Predeceased by her first husband, Harry T. Lunn; second husband, Frank A. Barkhouse; daughter, Gladys Beattie and sister, Ethel Kane.

A memorial service will be held at the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Friday, July 18th, 2003 at 11:00 am.

Interment will take place in the Ocean View Memorial Gardens, Saint John following the service at 2:30 pm.

For those who wish, donations made to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Lakshmi Devi Bhutani

The death of Lakshmi Devi Bhutani of Fredericton, NB, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Thursday, June 26th, 2003. Born in India. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mehta; wife of the late Parma Nand Bhutani.

Survived by her two sons, Navin (Vandana) of Fredericton, NB and Praveen (Suman) of New York, USA; one daughter Sushma Nangia of New Jersey, USA; eight grandchildren, Anita, Nitin, Monica, Sachin, Roger, Anish, Neha and Priya; and four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Vidya Bajaj.

Predeceased by her parents; and husband, Parma Nand Bhutani; one sister and brother.

Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home on Saturday, June 28th, from 2-4 pm. Funeral service will be held at the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Sunday, June 29th, 2003 at 10;30 AM. For those who wish, memorial tributes can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Barbara Althea Ganong

The death of Althea Ganong of Fredericton occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on February 28, 2009. Wife of the late Don Ganong, she was born in Bangor, Maine. She is survived by sons, Garfield (Cheryl) Ganong of Calgary and Dawson (Marlena) of Georgia; grandchildren, Ryan, Joel, Grayden, Roghan and Brian and great grandchildren, Alexandre, Akash and Arnav. In addition to her husband Don, she was also predeceased by her parents, Garfield and Grace Rideout and her brother, Eugene Rideout. Althea was a member of St. Paul’s United Church and a life long, active member of the IODE.

The family will receive visitors at McAdams Select Community Funeral Home, 160 York St., on Wednesday, March 4th, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s United Church on Thursday, March 5th, at 2pm with Rev. Paul Ross officiating. Interment in the Fredericton Rural Extension Cemetery will follow at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to St. Paul’s United Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home, 458-9170.

Verna Margaret Waddelow
1917-2009

The death of Verna Margaret Waddelow, wife of the late Francis (Frank) Waddelow occurred at the York Manor Nursing Home on Monday, June 22nd, 2009 at the age of 92. Born in Chipman, Queen’s County, NB, she was the daughter of the late John and Florence (Fowler) Bishop and was the last surving member of her immediate family. She had lived in Fredericton for the last 69 years.

Mrs. Waddelow was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church, Grace Matheson Mission Circle, a Provincial and Dominion Life Member of the WMS, a member of the Golden Years Seniors Club and a member of Seekers Circle Kings Daughters and Sons. She was an employee of the Daily Gleaner for many years from where she retired.

She is survived by her daughter Donna Jeanne Boyd and her son-in-law Clayton Boyd of Chipman, her grandchildren Jon Boyd of BC and Michele Boyd of Fredericton, two great-grandchildren Alana Boyd and Shaelynn Boyd both of BC; step-grandchildren Victor Biro and Sylvia Biro all of Ontario and Many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by her five brothers, Harold, Fred, Russell, Charles and Dean; her sister Elsie Marr, and a step-daughter, Jeanette Biro.

Resting at McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home, 160 York Street Fredericton where visitation will be held on Thursday, June 25th, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held from the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Friday, June 26th, 2009 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Doug Hapeman Officiating. Interment will take place in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Remembrance donations may be made to the Fredericton Alzheimers Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Mary Catherine Bartlett
1926-2009

The death of Mary Catherine Bartlett of Fredericton, NB, occurred at Pine Grove Nursing Home on Tuesday August 25th, 2009. Born in Cassalis, NB on April 16th, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Hubert and Ida Mae (Simpson) Harris and the wife of the late Donald Bartlett.

Survived by her cherished son and daughter – in – law, Lee and Mary Lou and her precious grandson, Caleb Bartlett all of Fredericton. She was predeceased by her parents; three brothers, Sandy, Tommy and Hubert Harris; two sisters, Rosella Rutherford and Audrey Sherrard (Clarence).

Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 26th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm and Thursday, August 27th, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at Brunswick Street Baptist Church on Friday, August 28th, 2009 at 11:00 am. Rev. Terry Atkinson will officiate. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Tony Cameron
1942-2009

Tony Cameron passed away unexpectedly at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Tuesday, August 25th, 2009. Born in Barkers Point, NB in 1942 he was the son of the late Douglas and Marjorie Cameron.

He is survived by his partner, Denise Legere; his children, Lindsay Cameron (Sean Lee) and Darcy Cameron (Jody McIntyre); his sister Judy Sullivan (Bob Murchland); nephew, Jason Sullivan (Jacki Currie); niece, Nya Black (Paul Black) as well as Lindsay and Darcy’s mother, Brenda McVicar.

Tony started his career as a school teacher and later moved on to be a probation officer. He served Frederictonians as a City Councillor for nine years, fulfilling the role of Deputy Mayor when asked. He retired from the civil service in 2001 and drove taxi as a hobby to keep himself rooted in the issues of the community. Tony had a strong sense of community and loved Barkers Point, having lived there his entire life. To everyone who knew him, Tony was an idea man who marched to the beat of his own drum. He was a loving and devoted father to Darcy and Lindsay. His family and friends wish him a safe journey and he will be dearly missed.

There will be no service by Tony’s request. A visitation will be held at McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home on Saturday, August 29th, 2009 from 6-9 pm. For those who wish, donations in memory of Tony may be made to the SPCA as he was an animal lover particularly to Bailey, Jenny, Smokey and Chicago. (458-9170)

Bernard James Dwight Oliver
1920-2009

Bernard James Dwight Oliver of Fredericton, NB, died peacefully at the Veteran’s Health Unit in Fredericton on Monday, September 28th, 2009. Born in Winnipeg, MN, he was son of the late Fred Dwight and Grace Ada (Hall) Oliver.

Bernard served overseas during WWII with the Princess Patricia Light Infantry, then following the war he was a longtime employee of the Province of New Brunswick until his retirement. A 50 year plus member of the Hiram Lodge #6 F&AM, Fredericton Royal Arch Chapter #2, R&SM York Council #11, Fredericton Preceptory # 50 and Scottish Rite 32nd degree. A member of the Luxor Temple, Devon Chapter #37 O.E.S., PGP and Past Grand Patron, Order of the Eastern Star NB. He was a longtime and active member of Brunswick Street Baptist Church and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4.

He is survived by his wife Rosslyn Perry; one son, Joseph C.D. Oliver of BC; five grandchildren, John Pond of NFLD, Cheryl Snowball, Shawna Brennan, Nicole Oliver and Michael Oliver all of BC; six great-grandchildren, Miguel and Ella Pond of NFLD, Hannah and Jordan Snowball, Lyric Brennan and Keanna Oliver all of BC. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Genevra Ulrike (Young) Oliver and one sister Una Oliver.

There will be no visitation by request. A graveside service will take place in the Fredericton Rural Extension Cemetery on Friday, October 2nd, 2009 at 2PM with The Rev. Ralph Irving officiating. For those who wish, and in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes made to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton, NB. 458-9170
