Jeanie Mary MacBean (Black)
1923-2009
At the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Monday, March 2nd, 2009 Jeanie M. MacBean of Upper Kingsclear, NB, passed away peacefully after a short illness.
Born in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, she immigrated with her family to Canada in April 1929. She was a daughter of the late John and Jane (Chambers) Black.
Jeanie loved gardening, baking, knitting, quilting and spending time with family and friends. She was an active member of the Lower Kingsclear United Church of Canada where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a member for many years of the Cheerful Workers Club of Kingsclear, NB. She is survived by her husband, Ernest and son, Charles, of Upper Kingsclear, NB; sisters, Sarah (Black) Murray of Lower Kingsclear, NB and Elizabeth (Black) Perley (Lloyd) of Maugerville, NB; brother, George Black (Hattie) of Lower Kingsclear, NB and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Jane Black; one sister, Matilda and three brothers, John, James and Daniel.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses of 4NW and 3SW (Cardiac Unit) for their wonderful care in looking after Jeanie.
Visitation for Jeanie will be held at McAdams Select Community Funeral Home on Friday, March 6th, 2009 at 1:30 pm followed by a service in the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel at 3:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Norman Whitney officiating. Interment will take place in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery in the spring. Donations in memory of Jeanie to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. (458-9170)
Thomas Renfrew Gilchrist McKim
1924-2009
Passed away at home in Fredericton on March 4, 2009. Tom is survived by his wife Joan McCready, sons Dr. James McKim (Dr. Susan Dempsey) Keswick Ridge, NB, Robert McKim (Dr. Claude Gimmi) Basel, Switzerland, John McKim, Ottawa,ON and grandchildren Tessa, Luke and Emily McKim, Keswick Ridge, NB, and will be fondly remembered by his step family including John Bagnall (Maureen Michaud), Anne Hill (Barry), Richard Bagnall, Pamela Holmes (Brian) and grandchildren Charlotte and Alexandra Hill. He was predeceased by his wife Mary Cabeldu.
Tom was born in Saint John, NB, and lived most of his life along the beautiful St. John River where he raised his family. Tom was a sweet gentle man who enjoyed all sports – notably skiing, hockey, fishing, golf, and sailing. Tom lived the qualities that he respected most: love of family, a good honest effort at work and play, and an open attitude offered to all who opened their hand to his. He will be missed. His kind and loving spirit lives on in all of us who loved him.
There will be no visitation by request. A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army, Jobs Unlimited, Fredericton or other local charities. Burtt Smith
1919-2009
The death of Burtt Mitton Smith, husband of B. Nora (Palmer) Smith of Fredericton, NB, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Thursday, March 5th, 2009. Born in Boundary Creek, NB, he was the son of the late Samuel W. and Ruth C. (Mitton) Smith.
Burtt graduated from The University of New Brunswick in 1940 with a degree in Forestry. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the RCAF. He was posted to England where he met and married Nora, his wife of 67 years. After training in England, he was posted to India, where he served two and a half years. Returning to New Brunswick after the war, he was employed as a forester with the Provincial Government until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the Canadian Forestry Association and was inducted into the New Brunswick Forestry Hall of Fame. He was a longtime and active member of Christ Church (Parish) Church. He was an enthusiastic golfer and was a member of the Fredericton Golf Club for many years.
Burtt is survived by his wife Nora, son Roger Smith of Fredericton, two daughters, Penny Lester (William) of Calgary, AB, and Debbie Smith of Calgary, AB, and one grandson, Jeremy. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Donald Smith and Robert W. Smith, and grandson Christopher.
There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will take place at Christ Church (Parish) Church on Wednesday, March 11th, 2009 at 2:30 PM with Rev. Anthony Kwaw officiating. A reception will take place in the church immediately following the memorial service. For those who wish, memorial tributes may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Patricia (Patty) Jane (nee McCarthy) Keilty
Patricia (Patty) Jane (nee McCarthy) Keilty, born March 16, 1944, in Saint John, NB; passed away unexpectedly on March 2, 2009, in St. Petersburg, FL. Patty graduated from St. Vincent’s High School in Saint John and then attended NB Teachers College and the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. Gerald (Pete) Keilty and Patty were married in 1966 and were blessed with three children, Krista, Peter and Jill. Patty taught in the public schools in Saint John and then along with Pete and the children lived in Saint John, Boston and Montreal before settling in Fredericton where she dedicated herself to raising her family. Her passion for reading led her to working at the Fredericton Public Library from where she retired. The winter months of the last 10 years took her to the St. Petersburg, Florida area where she enjoyed many visitors from home and the local weather and wildlife. In addition to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Patty was a great and loyal friend. Her spirit and support will be greatly missed by each one of us who were blessed to know her.
Patty is pre-deceased by her father, Bernard McCarthy, her mother Geraldine (Mulholland) and her sister Valerie (Murray). Patty will be sadly missed and is survived by her 2 brothers Peter and Bernard, her husband Gerald (Pete), daughter Krista and son-in-law Eddy Lau, son Peter and daughter in law Jennifer and daughter Jill; six grandchildren Eric, Matthew, Gabrielle, Jordan, Phoebe and Maya; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and others.
The family will receive visitors at McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home (160 York Street, Fredericton) from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Sunday, March 8th, 2009. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon, on Monday, March 9th, 2009, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1500 Hanwell Road, Fredericton, NB with Fr. J. J. Dolan as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation of Canada or a charity of choice.
Dr. Kothoor Abraham
1929-2009
ABRAHAM, KOTHOOR: Dr. Kothoor Abraham of Fredericton, New Brunswick, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2009 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital at the age of 79. He was the loving husband of 47 years to Gracey (Molly) and beloved father of Mary Abraham (New York, NY), Sarah Sturtevant (Waterloo, ON) and Dr. Neena S. Abraham (Houston, TX). He is fondly remembered by sons-in-law Robert W. Radtke and Terry Sturtevant; his grandchildren, Eva Warren, Marisa Duncan, Cordelia and David Sturtevant; and his extended family around the world. Dr. Abraham earned a Bachelors of Science degree with distinction from Madras Christian College, University of Madras, and then attended the Christian Medical College in Vellore, India. Following medical school, Dr. Abraham completed training in Internal Medicine in London, England. He was a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (London), a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He relocated to Fredericton, New Brunswick in 1971 and started a busy practice in Internal Medicine and Cardiology, retiring in 2002. Dr. Abraham was a member of the Canadian Medical Association, Senior Emeritus Medical Staff at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, was a Life Member of the New Brunswick Medical Society, and served as President of the York-Sudbury-Queens Medical Society (1990-1991). During his 31-year tenure as an active member of the Fredericton medical community, he was known as a gifted teacher, dedicated physician and a true gentleman with a keen intellect. One of his great joys was mentoring interns and residents during their clinical rotations at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the Rev. Greg Geldart and the many friends who provided support during his illness. In addition, special thanks to Dr. Gordon Plummer, Dr. Cheryl Rushton, and the staff of 3 East, 4 East and 4 North East for their compassionate care. A service to celebrate Dr. Abraham's life will be held at Brunswick Street Baptist Church on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 2pm, with Rev. Greg Geldart officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Foundation's new cardiac diagnostic program, "Your Health-Your Heart", would be appreciated. Byron Collins Wile
Byron Collins Wile of Fredericton died on Friday, February 20th, 2009 at the Veterans Health Unit in Fredericton, NB. Born May 6th, 1923 in Bridgewater, NS, he was the son of the late John I. Wile and Jennie T. (Wile) Wile.
Byron served in the RCAF from 1942-1945 in Canada, Alaska and England. After the war he attended UNB earning his BSC in Forestry in 1949 and his MSC in Forestry in 1958. He worked for the Canadian Forest Service Maritimes Section for 31 years retiring in 1981 to look after his wife, Edna (Corbett) Wile, who passed away in September of the same year.
Survived by his companion of 21 years, Nadine Graham. Together they traveled every province of Canada and every state of the USA except RI. Also survived by brother-in-law, John Corbett of Gagetown. Byron was predeceased by half-sister Bernice A. (Wile) (Eisner) Swinimer and half-brother Percy H. Wile.
There will be no visitation or flowers at Byron’s request. A memorial service will take place at the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Monday, February 23rd, 2009 at 2:00 PM with The Right Rev. George C. Lemmon officiating. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 will hold a tribute service during the memorial service. Interment will take place in the Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, memorial tributes made to the Veteran’s Health Unit or the Canadian Forestry Service would be appreciated. Denise Bongard
1950-2009
Denise (Lavoie) Bongard of Fredericton, NB, wife of Lyle Bongard, passed away peacefully at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on February 20th, 2009 at the age of 58. Born in Woodstock, NB she was the daughter of Vera Lavoie and the late Lawrence Lavoie. Denise will be remembered as an independent business woman and a loyal employee. She enjoyed travelling, spending time with her family and friends as well as her time at the little camp on the Taxis River. She also enjoyed quiet times by the homefire with her husband, Lyle and her family pets.
She is survived by her loving husband Lyle, her mother Vera; two sons, Rob Deap and his wife Tanya, and David Deap and his wife Melissa and granddaughter Sadie all of Fredericton, NB; one sister, Connie Bossence and her husband Bob of Corunna, ON; three brothers, LJ Lavoie of Truro, NS, Terry Lavoie of Calgary, AB, and Paul Lavoie of Fredericton, NB.
The family wish to thank Dr. Grant and Dr. Bruce and the nurses of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Palliative Care Unit for their great and understanding care Denise received in her final days.
Following cremation, the family will receive visitors at McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton, on Wednesday, February 25th, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Dunstan’s Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, February 26th, 2009 at 12:00 noon with Fr. Gerry White as Celebrant and Fr. John Jennings as Con-celebrant. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes made to the SPCA or phoenixtears.ca would be appreciated by the family.
BRANSFIELD, Steven Romain
The passing of Steven Romain Bransfield of Carroll's Crossing, NB., occurred after a brief illness at home on January 22, 1998. He was 59. Born in Bay de Vin, NB., he was the son of the late William and Lillian (Carroll) Bransfield. He worked for J.B. Gallant, Barkers Point for 30 years and was a member of Our Lady of The Annunciation Roman Catholic Church, Doaktown. Mr. Bransfield enjoyed volunteering his time and effort for the church, he was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Ella May (Price) Bransfield, two daughters, Madeline MacMaster (Jack) of Porter's Lake, NS., and Marjorie Bransfield of Fredericton, NB., three sons, Theodore Bransfield (Valerie) of Edmonton, Alberta, Haley Bransfield of Deep River, Ontario and John Bransfield of Carroll's Crossing, NB., seven grandchildren, one sister Helen Green (Frank) of Glace Bay, NS., three brothers, Michael Bransfield (Mary) of Fredericton, Billy Bransfield (Louise) of Black River, NB., and Thomas Bransfield (Wanda) of Fredericton, NB., several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Miramichi Valley Funeral Home, New Bandon, NB., Saturday 2-4 and 7-9 pm, Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of The Annunciation Roman Catholic Church, Doaktown, NB., on Monday January 26, 1998 at 2 pm with Father Peter Stephens officiating. CLOWATER, Janet Verna
The passing of Janet Verna Clowater of Ludlow occurred after a brief illness at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton on January 23, 1998. She was 85. Born in McNamee she was the daughter of the late Seth and Kate (Hovey) Dudley. She was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Ludlow. She is survived by four daughters, Lois Russell (Wendell), Ruby Hovey (Everett), Tiddles Nash (George) and Judy Clowater, one brother James Dudley, three daughters-in-law Pearl Clowater, Joyce Barr and Valerie Clowater, 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Cecil Clowater, three sons Cecil Murray Clowater, Boydie Clowater and Gene Clowater, two sisters Dora Murray and Twin sister Alberta Palmer, two brothers, Rev. Campbell Dudley and Waldo Dudley. Visitation will be held at Miramichi Valley Funeral Home, New Bandon, NB., Monday 3-7 pm. Funeral service will be held at Saint James Anglican Church, Ludlow, NB., on Tuesday January 27, 1998 at 2 pm with The Rev. Canon Alvin Westgate officiating. HAINES, Elton Carl
The passing of Elton Carl Haines of Burtt's Corner at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton on January 25, 1998. He is survived by his wife Clara (Doak) Haines, two sons, Brian Haines (Barbara) of Fredericton and Larry Haines of Burtt's Corner, five sisters, Letitia Lancaster (Ken) of Burtt's Corner, Leona Chaters (Alex) of Brampton, Ontario, Evelyn Hubbard (Joe) of Covina, California, Willa Horsefield (Tom) of Amherst, N.S., and Virginia Hanson of Dover, New Hampshire, sister-in-law Dawn Haines of Fredericton and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at the Church of Christ, Burtt's Corner, Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held at the Church of Christ on Wednesday January 28, 1998 at 2 pm with Pastor Graham Crandall officiating. Burial is in the Burtt's Corner Community Cemetery at a later date. JEWETT, Fraser Harold
The passing of Fraser Harold Jewett of Mouth of Keswick, NB., occurred peacefully at the Wauklehegan Manor, McAdam, NB., on January 23, 1998. He was in his 90th year. Born in Mouth of Keswick he was the son of the late Charles and Minnie (Dunphy) Jewett. He was a carpenter with Diamond Construction until his retirement. Mr. Jewett was a member of the Keswick United Baptist Church, Founder and Secretary-Treasurer of the Mouth of Keswick Cemetery Committee and very much enjoyed Salmon fishing. He is survived by his wife Grace (Mann) Jewett, three daughters, Dawn Jewett, Agnes Whittaker (Winston) and Judie Gilmore all of Keswick, two sons, Bill Jewett (Esther) of Douglas and Vaughn Jewett of Keswick, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren. He was the last member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by three children, Sharon, and Cynthia, one son Àeerly, four sisters, Edith, Vera, Ruby and Blanche, four brothers, Wilfred, Donald, Bedford and Rev. Kenneth Jewett. Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB., Saturday 7-9 pm, Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held at York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Monday January 26, 1998 at 2 pm with Pastor Gordon James officiating. Interment will be held in the Mouth of Keswick Cemetery at a later date.
