Leona Blanche Randall
1910-2010

The death of Leona Blanche Randall occurred on March 19th, 2010 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Born September 5th, 1910 in Bingham, ME she was the daughter of the late J. Robert and Sadie E. (Chapman) Clark and wife to the late Orland Randall.

Leona is survived by her grandchildren, Laurie Murray of Alberta; Randy Murray (Nora) of Lakeville Corner, NB and Sherri Smith (Merle) of Swan Creek, NB; eight great-grandchildren; fourteen great great-grandchildren; sister, Alta Colwell of Fredericton Junction, NB and a very special nephew, Gary DeLorey of Syphers Cove, NB. She was predeceased by her husband, Orlie; her daughter, Betty Murray and her son-in-law, Ronald as well as several brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home on Monday, March 22nd, 2010 from 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held at the Lakeville Corner Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Jim Webber officiating. Interment will take place in the Byno Cemetery in Lakeville Corner. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Lakeville Corner Baptist Church.

Phyllis Augusta Penney
1933-2010

It is with broken hearts the family of Phyllis Penney 76, of Burton, NB, mourns her passing at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Wednesday 21 April 2010.

Born in Clarks Harbour, NS on 10 December 1933, she was a daughter of the late Geneva (Crowell) (Nickerson) Doucette and James Nickerson.

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Charles Penney of Burton; her children Glenna Gilman (Carl) of Lincoln, NB; Ann of Burton, NB; Emma Furzer (Muir) of Strathmore, AB and Jim Penney (Shelley) of Burton, NB; Grandchildren … Christa, Reena, Charlie,Justin and Alyssa; Great Grandchildren … Charlise and Danica; Step Grandchildren … Cyndie, Tim and Sheri, Step Great Grandchildren … Katelyn, Brooke, Jacob, Wade and Maxwell; her sisters Glenna Gaudley (late Elvin) of Iona, Cape Breton; Paula Doucette of Yarmouth, NS and Pam Condon (Keith) of Hebron, NS; her brother Jim Nickerson (Verna) of Barrington Passage, NS; Brother-in-law Harold Penney (Judy) of Westmount, NS; Sister-in-laws Blanche Billard (Harlan) of Rockingham, NS and Lillian Metzger (Lynn) of Mechanicsburg, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

She enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren in their younger years; camping, Bingo, bowling, picking apples; knitting; jigsaw puzzles, watching curling on TV and sitting in her rocking chair in the front yard waving to all those who tooted their horns. She was a former member of the Dominion Canadian Rifle Association in Werl, Germany; the Burton Lion’s Club; and a Red Hatter with the Purple Putterflies of Oromocto.

Visitation will take place at the Oromocto Funeral Home on Friday 23 April 2010, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Private interment will be held at a later date in the St Paul ’s Cemetery, Burton , NB.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Sarah Lynn Tozer
1982-2010

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Sarah Lynn Tozer on April 12th, 2010 at the VG Site QEII Palliative Care Unit 7A, surrounded by love, family and friends after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 14th, 1982 in Fredericton, NB, she was the daughter of Bev and Frankie (Wood) Tozer of Burton, NB.

Sarah was currently in her final year of the Physiotherapy program at Dalhousie University in Halifax. She thoroughly enjoyed her studies, the program, her professors and fellow students.

Sarah is survived by her parents; her sister, Stephanie Murphy (David) of Germany; her two nephews, Broden and Grant; her boyfriend, Athen Anderson of Winnipeg, MB; several aunts, uncles and cousins and numerous friends who were very special to her.

Our family wishes to thank all of the phenomenal doctors, nurses and support staff from floors 9A and 7A. Their caring support was a great comfort and will always be remembered.

We also wish to thank all of our friends, relatives, and neighbors who were so supportive to our family during these difficult months. Your caring prayers and kindness shown in so many ways will never be forgotten.

There will be no visitation by request, a memorial service will be held at the Oromocto Baptist Church (10 Doyle Drive) on Friday, April 16th, 2010 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Perry Hanley officiating. For those who wish, donations in memory of Sarah may be made to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (www.cholangiocarcinoma.org) or to the Canadian Cancer Society. Oromocto Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. 357-5100

Emma Theresa Garagan
1930-2010

The death of Emma Garagan of Burton, NB, occurred at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Thursday, April 15th, 2010. Born in North Sydney, CB she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Priscilla (Smith) Whalen and the wife of the late Lawrence Garagan.

Survived by daughters, Theresa Shannon (Ray) of Broadview, Ill, USA, Eileen Garagan of Burton, Moria Breen (Nairy) of Burton, Noreen Coy (Alvin) of Upper Gagetown, NB, Sharon Desgroseilliers (Jerry) Petawawa, ON, sons, Lawrence (Denise) of Dartmouth, NS, Gregory (Dena Camp) of Fredericton, Barry (Diane) of Dartmouth, NS, Colin (Maryanne) of Oromocto and Alan of Oromocto; twenty-five grandchildren: Dana, Maureen, Adrienne, Matthew, Breana, Stephanie, Jason G., Crystal, Lee, Ryan, Jerry, Daniel, Thomas, Bradley, Emma-Claire, Nathan, Hollie, Jason C., Erin, Christine, Scott, Adam, Michelle, Kyle and Lauren;fourteen great-grandchildren: Alexa, Amaya, Taylor, Alexander, Brayden, Athena, Liberty, Daya, Lauren, Claire, Jamie, Lillian, Anna and Jace; one brother, Marvin Whalen (Devena) of Renfrew, ON.

Predeceased by her parents; husband; one son, Neil; two sisters, Mary and Catherine; twin brother, Lawrence (Agnes, of Sydney, NS).

Visitation will be held at Oromocto Funeral Home on Friday, April 16, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 3:00 pm. Rev. Ken Weir will officiate. For those who wish memorial tributes may be made to the Alzheimer Society, Epilepsy New Brunswick or the charity of the donors’ choice.

John E. Stevenson
1920-2010

John Stevenson of Pettigrove Crescent, Fredericton, died on April 18th, 2010 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. He was born in England in Skelton-in-Cleveland and came to Canada in 1946.

Predeceased by his first wife, Jessie and brother, Geoffrey, he is survived by his wife, Jennie; two brothers, Alan of St. Catharines, ON and Guy of Cleveland, England and several neices and nephews. He worked for Defence Construction of Base Gagetown and was Technical and Development Officer for the Town of Oromocto. He retired as the Administrator of the Community Planning Branch, Dept. of Municipal Affairs.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place and there will be no funeral or memorial service. For those who wish, donations in John's name can be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Oromocto Funeral Home, 357-5100.

Rachel Orser (MacFawn)
1925-2010

Rachel (MacFawn) Orser of Oromocto, wife of the late Carl Forrest Orser, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Oromocto Public Hospital at age 84.

Rachel was born on Oct. 26, 1925, on York Street in Fredericton to Archibald Douglas MacFawn and Jessie Serina Alberta (Blizzard) MacFawn.

Her family moved to Saint John. When she was 16, she got her first job; she was a sales clerk at The Federal Store, a department store. She met Forrest when he started working there the next year. They were married on June 30, 1950. While her husband built a trucking business that at its height had 10 trucks, they also ran a small motel on Manawagonish Road. Rachel did a lot of the work, including cleaning rooms and then renting them.

She was Pentecostal and was active in her church all her life.

About 1970, Forrest became assistant pastor of Crescent Valley Community Church in Saint John. After that he and Rachel pastored the Timber River Pentecostal Church and then the Coles Island Pentecostal Church. As a minister’s wife her wide-ranging duties included such things as helping with social activities and counselling church members.

In 1993, Forrest was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. For years she took care of her husband as his condition slowly grew worse. The last two years she was assisted by Red Cross Homemakers.

She was predeceased by Forrest on Feb. 8, 2006.

She is survived by a daughter, Jane Fox of Fredericton; two sons, Michael (Kathy) of Oromocto and Forrest (Glenda) of Fredericton; a brother, James MacFawn (Sandra) of Saint John; a sister, Alma Cameron of Calgary, Alta.; three grandchildren, Jessica, Paul and Davis; one great-grandchild, Angelique.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 24th, 2010 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Oromocto Funeral Home. The service will be held at the funeral home chapel on Sunday, April 25th at 2:30 p.m. Donations may be made to the Cancer Society, the Parkinson’s Society or the Red Cross.
