Howard Willard Erb
1916 - 2001
The death of Howard W. Erb, 84, Hampton, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Wednesday, April 25, 2001. Howard was the husband of Doris (Dibblee) Erb and son of the late Tilley and Hattie T. (Coleman) Erb.
Howard farmed, worked in the woods, drove truck for the Department of Public works. He was a custodian and a school bus driver for Hampton schools. He operated his own sanitation business for twenty-five years.
Survived by his wife, sons; Sydney and Marie, Quispamsis, Brian and Everett, Hampton, four grandsons; Peter and Heather, Renforth, Jeff and Lisa, Quispamsis David and Renee, Fredericton and Joseph, Quispamsis, two great-grandchildren; Matthew and Sarah, several nieces, nephews. Pre-deceased by brothers; Ralph, Aubrey, Sidney, Walter and Cyril and sisters; Dorothy Johnston and Thelma Hayes.
Resting at Sherwood's Funeral Home, 18 Scovil Road, Norton, (839-2156), Thursday 7 - 9 PM and Friday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. Funeral service will be held from the Central Norton United Baptist Church, Sunday, April 29, 2001 at 2:30 PM, followed by interment in Riverbank Cemetery.

Doug VanTassel
1943-2011
The death of Joseph "Doug" VanTassel occurred unexpectedly, at his residence, in Wickham, NB, on October 11, 2011, after a short battle with cancer. He was born on December 29, 1943, in Letang, NB.
He worked at the Rothesay Pulp and Paper Mill for many years. Then he bought a truck and worked for himself for awhile. Doug loved the water and had 3 or 4 boats which he enjoyed. He was a Mason and a Shriner.
He is survived by his best friend and wife Shirley Schofield; daughter Charlene (Andrew) Ferguson of Lorneville; brother Donald of St. Andrews; sisters Annabelle (Brian) Cook of Letang, and Lottie (Elmer) Cook of Pennfield; special friend Beverley (Gerald) Roy of Nauwigewauk; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Ina and Joseph VanTassel and brother John.
At Doug’s request there will be no service. A memorial will be held in the spring. Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, are entrusted with arrangements.

Eva Hatfield
1917-2011
The death of Eva Kierstead Hatfield, age 93, of Hatfield Point, NB, occurred at the Sussex Health Centre, Sussex, NB, on February 4, 2011. She was born on February 24, 1917, in Saint John, NB, the daughter of the late Amos and Daisy (Allaby) Hatfield.
Eva is survived by nephews Will and Ellen Hatfield of Hatfield Point and Stewart Hatfield of Brooklyn, NY; great nephews Mark and Kathy and Ron; great niece Patti and Charles Kennedy; great-great nephews Stuart Hatfield and Simon Kennedy; great-great nieces Laura, Carla and Krista Hatfield and Hilary Kennedy. She was predeceased by her brothers Stewart and Alfred Hatfield; sisters-in-law Della and Irene
At Eva’s request there will be no visitation. A Celebration of Eva’s life, conducted by Rev. Fred Wickett, will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., from Outreach Pentecostal Church, Hatfield Point, NB. Interment will take place in Bayview Cemetery at a later date.

Rheta Appleby
1926-2011
The death of Rheta Elizabeth Appleby, age 85, wife of the late Frank Appleby of Cambridge-Narrows, NB, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, on Thursday, October 13, 2011. She was born on January 17, 1926, in Saint John, the daughter of Roy and Bertha (Thorne) Kierstead.
Rheta was a member of the First Cambridge Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was a life member of the W.M.S. and President for the First Cambridge Baptist Group for over 20 years.
Rheta is survived by daughters Nadine and Richard Tyner of Cambridge-Narrows and Joan Appleby of Saskatchewan; son Eldon and Bonnie Appleby of Cambridge-Narrows; granddaughters Brenda Carpenter, Colleen O’Connor, Sheila Black and Joanne Appleby; great grandchildren Madison and Logan O’Connor; step-grandchildren Richard and Keri Tyner and Traci Tyner; step-great grandchildren Krystal Hunter, Braydon Tyner and Shelby Tyner; brother, The Reverend Canon David Kierstead of Saint John; sister Connie and Russell Miller of Rothesay; sisters-in-law Shirley Kierstead of Rothesay and Margaret Appleby of Fredericton; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her twin sister Freda and baby sister Edith Kierstead; brother Robert Kierstead.
She is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visiting on Sunday, from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm. A celebration of Rheta’s life, conducted by Rev. Aubrey Trail , will be held on Monday, October 17, 2011, at 11:00 am, from First Cambridge Baptist Church, MacDonald’s Corner, NB. Interment will follow in adjoining cemetery.

Reta Brown
1919-2011
The death of Reta Elizabeth (Urquhart) Brown, age 92, of Sussex, NB, wife of the late Bruce Brown, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, on February 14, 2011. She was born on February 12, 1919, in Long Point, NB, the daughter of the late Lee and Susie (Cosman) Urquhart.
Reta is survived by daughters Patricia Brown of Saint John and Selene Brown of Vancouver, BC; son David and Cal Brown of Kamloops, BC; sister Bert and Bob Neal of Saint John; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister Jean and Otty Frazee.
She is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visiting on Saturday from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Celebration of Reta’s life, conducted by Rev. Dr. Leo Gallant, will be held on Sunday, February 20, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. from Sussex Baptist Church, Sussex, NB.
Not being able to attend my mother's funeral is one of the most regretable moments of my life. I loved her very much and I spoke to her by phone on her birthday. Unfortunately I have come down with bronchial pneumonia and travelling from BC to New Brunswick at this time is impossible. I am so sorry that I have missed seeing all of you. I know she would be very pleased to know you are here today to pay your last respects. My wife Cal and I plan to come in the spring..............David.

Clara MacDonald
1954-2010
After a period of failing health, the death of Clara Louise MacDonald , age 55, wife of Gerald E. MacDonald of Hammondvale, NB, occurred at her residence, on Thursday, February 25, 2010. She was born at the Kings County Memorial Hospital in Sussex, NB, on December 23, 1954, the daughter of Pauline (Tabor) McLong and the late LeRoy McLong of Jeffries Corner, NB.
Clara loved to cook for her family and friends. She was an "Avon Lady" and received numerous dolls as awards for her work. She enjoyed working at Home Hardware Garden Centre and growing and caring for flowers in her own garden. She always enjoyed her trips to PEI.
Clara is survived by her husband Gerald; son Trevor MacDonald at home; daughter Melanie MacDonald of Moncton and boyfriend Nick Munford; mother Pauline McLong; brother David and Wendy McLong of New Line; brother-in-law Ronald MacDonald and Frances Gillet of Hammondvale; niece Juanita MacDonald of Riverview; and cousins.
The family will receive visitors at the Southfield United Church, 814 Route 865, Southfield, NB, on Monday, from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of Clara’s life will be held from the Southfield United Church at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2, 2010.

Alvin Craft
1932-2011
The death of Alvin Blake Craft, age 79, husband of Phyllis (Welton) Craft, of Craft’s Cove, NB, occurred at the Sussex Health Centre, on Wednesday, October 12, 2011. He was born on March 16, 1932, the son of the late Herbert and Florence (MacDonald) Craft.
Alvin Craft lived at Craft’s Cove all his life. He loved the country and farming, he was known far and wide for his wonderful tomatoes and strawberries. He also drove a school bus and a truck for the government.
He had a great love for fishing. Many years ago he started a fish hatchery as a hobby. The hobby turned into a business. He bred his own brood stock, milked his own fish and grew them in the incubator. At 3 inches he delivered them all over N.B., stocking fish ponds.
The time of year he enjoyed the most was hunting season. In later years, at 3:00 P.M everyday, he went to his crow’s nest with his lobster sandwiches, camera and gun. His enjoyment was watching deer and taking pictures. He was a wonderful family man and had many many friends. He had a wonderful personality and a joke for everybody. He was one in a million and will be greatly missed.
Alvin is survived by his wife Phyllis; daughter Cathy McCrea of Craft’s Cove; son Brad and Nancy Craft of Salt Springs; grandchildren Laurie McCrea and Bart Nason of Oakville, ON, Graham McCrea of Bonnyville, AB, David McCrea of Shannon, Danielle Craft and Ben of Norton, Justin and Nicole Craft of Salt Springs; great grandchildren Shyanne, Makenzie, Taylor and Cohan; sister Madeline and Norman Bevans of Shannon; brother Donnie and Dawn Craft of Belyea’s Cove; sisters-in-law Geraldine Wiggins of Lincoln, Margaret Hay of Chipman, Betty and James Nowlan of Burlington, ON; brothers-in-law Reg and Calvin Welton of Waterboro; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Miles.
He is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visiting on Saturday, from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of Alvin’s life, conducted by Jock Otis, will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2011, at 11:00 a.m.. from Sherwood’s Chapel. Following cremation, interment will take place at a later date.

Vera Grace Neill
The death of Vera G. (Sprague) Neill, Hampton and formerly of Hatfield Point, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, on Wednesday, April 25, 2001. Vera was the wife of the late George W. Neill.
Survived by one son; Larry and Carolyn of Quispamsis, one grandson; Michael, at home, one brother; Clair and Cessy Sprague, Saint John, two sisters; Georgie and Mac Pearson, Sussex Corner and Madeleine and Frank Jeffery, Sussex Corner, two sisters-in-law; Geneva Sprague, Hatfield Point and Del Sprague, Oromocto, brother-in-law Charles and Teeny Neill, Springfield, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Predeceased by daughter Vicki and brothers, Oscar, Earl, Arnold, Gordon and Edmund Sprague.

The death of Nina E. (Alward) Raven, 82, Midland, occurred at the Sussex Health Centre, Sunday, April 22, 2001. Nina was the wife of the late H. Peter Raven and daughter of the late Ernest and Alphia (Thorne) Alward.
She is survived by sons; Arnold and Charlotte, Norton, Ernest and Sharon, Norton, Stanley and Bette, Springfield, Leonard and Valerie, Chipman, Donald and Linda, Kiersteadville, Kenneth and Theresa, Midland, Robert and Valerie, Irish Settlement, daughters; Marion and John McCready, Bloomfield, Margaret and Ernest Otis, Southfield and Patricia, Midland, 27 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, four sisters; Gladys Holbeche, Saint John, Rilla Lisson, Sussex, Myra Alward, Lower Millstream and Margaret Sprague, Lower Millstream, one brother; Roy and Lorna Alward, Berwick, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Pre-deceased by brothers; Stanley and Donald, and sisters; Helen, Annie and Muriel.

The death of Flora Isabel (Roberts) Brade, age 83, wife of the late William F. Brade of Waverley, NS, occurred as a result of a fire at Long Point, NB, on July 17, 2010. She was born at Long Point, NB, on August 4, 1926, the daughter of the late Frederick and Bessie (Roberts) Roberts.
Flora is survived by her son Robert (Jean Jeans) Mathias of Waverley, NS; daughter Anne Mathias-Moses of Yarmouth, NS; grandchildren Angela Jenkins, Sarah and Andrew Shupe, Coralee and Gilles Robichaud, Brian and Tamara Moses, Jamie and Nola Moses, Elizabeth and Jeremy Sullivan, Amber May and Terrance Nelson, Anthony and Lorrainne Lunn; great grandchildren Roger, David and Amanda, Ainsley, Benjamin, and Cambria Shupe, Nathan and Ellie Robichaud, Avery, Jacob, Isabella and Logan Moses, Kristin and Evan Sullivan, Liam, Sophie, Jack, and Rhys Moses, and Taylor Kini; sisters Mary MacDonald of London, ON and Mildred Rigby of BC; brother Eldon and Vera Roberts of Bournemouth, England; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Hiram Parlee
1917-2010
The death of Hiram Sylvester Parlee, age 92, of Norton, NB, husband of Anne (O’Leary) Parlee occurred at the Sussex Health Centre, on Friday, May 14, 2010. He was born at Head of Millstream, on September 24, 1917, the son of the late Harry and Margaret (Miller) Parlee.
Hiram worked for Jones Bros.Ltd. for several years prior to enlisting in the RCNVR during WWII, seeing active convoy duty in the North Atlantic and Coastal waters. Following the war, he worked in the lumber industry, also several years with the Department of Transportation and in residential construction prior to his retirement in 1982. He was a Life Member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 76. He was an avid card player, never missing Tuesday night Crib at the Norton Legion. Hiram also enjoyed watching baseball, especially his favorite team, the Toronto Blue Jays.
Hiram is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anne; son Daniel Parlee of St. Stephen; daughter Donna and Harold Kaye of Sussex; two grandsons Matthew and Gregory & Rebekah Kaye; four great grandchildren Brian, Jaelyn, Jackson and Gavin; brother Lloyd and Catherine Parlee of Norton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers Ernest and Frederick; sisters Mildred Anderson, Eva Wright and Leota Wright.
He is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home & Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visiting on Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Norton, NB, at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2010. A private family interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
