David Broome
1929-2013
With great sadness the family of David Gordon Broome announces his passing on July 29, 2013 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, NB after his last visit, on the weekend, to his beloved camp in Plaster Rock with his boys. He was born June 9, 1929 in Plaster Rock, son of the late Banford and Elizabeth (MacDonald) Broome.
David is survived by his wife of 63 years, L. Pearl (McInnis); children: Raymond (Cheryl), Ike, Cheryl (Ivan) Smith, Janet (Lawrence) Briggs, Nancy (Broome) Peacock, and son #3 Orland Miller; nine grandchildren: Andrew (Monica) Broome, Keith (Sarah Frigault) Broome, Lisa (Chris) Fudge, Missy (Brent) Carr, Ryan (Kaylie Sherwood) Broome, Ralph Johnson, Jason Johnson, Nathan Briggs and Jaxon Broome; three great grandchildren: Tolan Fudge, Perrin Fudge and Ella Carr; sisters: Ethel (Heckie) Deveau and Betty Jones. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters: Wilhelmina, Hazel and Roberta; brothers: John, Banford Junior, Johnny and Elbert.
David was a man of many talents working as a mechanic, welder and trouble shooter at the Irving Sawmills. David was employed with JDI Woodlands Sawmill Division until his retirement in 1994.
David was a great storyteller who loved to talk about all his experiences. He loved fishing and hunting with his sons at the camp in Plaster Rock and spending time with his family.
He is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home, 18 Scovil Road, (506-839-2156), Norton, NB, with visiting on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8pm. The funeral will be held on Friday, August 2, 2013 at 11:00am from Sherwood’s Chapel and Life Tribute Centre. Private interment will be at a later date in Midland Cemetery.

Stirling Nickerson
1940-2014
It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Stirling Lloyd Nickerson, age 73, husband of Marilyn (Hoyt) Nickerson of Queenstown, NB, on Friday, February 7, 2014. He was born in Saint John on December 5, 1940, the son of the late Lloyd and Ethel (Lyon) Nickerson.
Stirling was born in Saint John on December 5, 1940. His first ten years of life were spent growing up on his Grandfather Lyon’s farm in Armstrongs Corner. In 1950, he and his family moved to Queenstown, ahead of the expropriation of land for Base Gagetown. In 1958, he attended Sussex High School where he met the love of his life, Marilyn Hoyt. They married on July 4, 1964. He always liked to joke it was Independence Day, the day he lost his independence. He graduated from Technical School in 1966, and worked in Industrial Instrumentation in Dalhousie, Lake Utopia, and Saint John. He became a Dad during these years to Shelley, Wendy and Terry, who in years to come provided him with the grandchildren he loved so much – Kara, Cody and Rylan.
In 1979, he finally realized his life-long dream when he moved to Queenstown to become a full-time farmer, and he never looked back. He embraced the hard work that was involved and was never happier. He loved Queenstown and the people who lived there and tried to be available whenever help was needed.
He was a busy man, and had many interests, like beekeeping, playing cribbage and learning to play the fiddle. Just last week, he donated plasma, his 176th donation of blood products. He was treasurer of Base Gagetown Historical Association and an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was treasurer of the Queenstown Baptist church. He was a former member of the Eastern Charlotte Lion’s club and a current member of the Jemseg Lion’s Club, where he passionately promoted fundraising for The Imagination Library (https://ca.imaginationlibrary.com).
Oh how he loved his music- variety shows, benefit shows, Gagetown fair, church, dances, weddings and funerals. He so enjoyed his time with The Queenston Trio, Three Point Hitch, and The River Singers. Another dream was realized when he was able to join the gospel group, Living Water.
Thank you all for your love and support during this difficult time.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn; son Terry and Kristie of Regina, SK; daughters Shelley Nickerson and Wendy Peters both of Lincoln; grandchildren Kara Allen, Cody Peters, Rylan Nickerson; brothers Gerald and Jean Nickerson of Queenstown and Gregory Nickerson of Fredericton; sister Joan and Frank Henderson of Saint John; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers David and Allan and sister Mary.
Arrangements entrusted to Sherwood's Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre, 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, E5T 1Z2, with visiting on Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm and Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral Service will be held from Queenstown United Baptist Church at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 13, 2014. Interment will take place later in the Central Hampstead Cemetery.

Esther Long
1923-2013
The death of Esther Irene Long, age 89, of Snider Mountain, NB, widow of Eslie Long, occurred at the Sussex Health Centre, on August 8, 2013.
Esther is survived by her sons; Arthur and Beryl Long of Liverpool. Esther was born in Kiersteadville, New Brunswick on September 2, 1923. She was the middle child of five daughters of Albert and Neta (Walker) Edgar. She attended school and church in the community. Her father farmed and sold produce at the Saint John Market and in later years built rental cottages along the beach area now known as Pirates’ Cove. Esther spoke fondly of her life on the Belleisle Bay and recalled quick dips in the water between chores and mentioned skating across the Bay to attend church at Hatfield’s Point.
In the mid 1930’s a young man from Snider Mountain struck out for Sussex in search of work. He was picked up by Mr. Edgar, who needed a hired man. This young fellow noticed that one of the five daughters was good at doing every imaginable chore (washing milk things, milking cows, raking hay, picking strawberries, gardening, cooking, cleaning, entertaining, crocheting, quilting, sewing) and patiently waited for her to get old enough to marry him. They married on September 20, 1941 and shared exactly 63 years and 4 months as husband and wife and raised a family of six children. Esther was known for her ability to play checkers and crokinole and for making peanut brittle and pancakes.
In the 1960’s Esther began transporting her children to and from school and working in town at housecleaning during class time. Later she worked at the Sussex Cheese and Butter in the retail department until her arm developed tennis elbow from scooping too much ice cream. Being a life-long learner, in 1976 she enrolled in Technical School in Moncton where she studied upholstery. She continued to work at this trade well into her 80’s when she would tell people who called "Since my 80th birthday, I’ve been trying to cut back." Eslie was always proud of Esther and her accomplishments and thanked my grandfather for giving him first pick of his daughters. Esther often recalled Eslie telling her prior to his home-going "You have no idea how much I love you."
Esther had a strong bond with her children, grand-children, and great-grand children and continued to recognize them and hand out some words of wisdom even in her final hours.
Esther was a member of Snider Mountain Baptist Church and attended W.M.S. She also loved attending Beulah Camp. Esther was looking forward to seeing her Lord and Saviour and being reunited with her loved ones. She was quoted as saying recently in her hospital room "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be!"

Frances Francis
1931-2013
The death of Frances Patrea Francis, age 81, of Hampton and formerly of Apohaqui, occurred at the Dr. V. A. Snow Centre, on July 7, 2013. Fran was the wife the late Frederick H. Francis. She was born in Hampstead on December 3, 1931, the daughter of the late Nelson and Jennie (Jensen) Eveleigh.
Fran life’s work was to help others. She was involved in many aspects of any community where she lived. As a founding member of the Apohaqui Lower Millstream Recreational Council, she worked tirelessly for the village from the reconstruction of the Centennial Hall, to organizing supers, banquets or any task at hand. She was involved with Church of the Ascension ACW and always made sure her young family attended Sunday services and Sunday School. Norton Legion Branch #76 and Greenwich #87 were another of her passions that consumed much of her time. She never seemed to tire of helping whether it was the Greenwich Gems Seniors or with her friends and co-residents at Hillcrest or any other cause she took up.
Fran was well known for her cooking. From making hundreds of bottles of pickles and preserves annually to more than a ton of fruit cakes for the MS Society to 37 pies for a community supper, nothing in the kitchen was a job too big. You could not just stop in for a visit without Fran insisting you have a snack which would be nothing less than a full meal.
But most of all was Fran’s love for her family. The word family was nothing short of a cause that deserved all her focus and energy. A quality that has inevitably been passionately passed onto anyone that was privileged enough to know what truly made Fran "tick". Worthy of mention and praise was the care and love Fran passed onto her family members late in their lives.
Fran is survived by her sons: David Francis, Doug Francis and Debbie Rainer and Dwight and Debbie Francis all of Hampton; 8 grandchildren: Kris, Sarah, Donna, Robb, Martha, Matthew, Joshua and Amy; 14 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Dolores Francis of Fredericton; sister, Pauline and Daryl Sullivan of Winsor, NS; sisters-in-law: Mildred Bundy and Marion Francis; Uncle Roy Pope; several nieces, nephews and cousins; special friend Marg Hachey. She was predeceased by brother, Bob Eveleigh; sisters: Elaine Ferris and infant sister Joan.
The family will receive visitors at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visiting on Thursday, July 11, 2013, from 12 to 2 pm, followed by funeral service in Sherwood’s Chapel at 2:00 pm., Interment will take place in Riverbank Cemetery.

Keith Clingo
1917-2013
Keith James Clingo of Quispamsis and formerly of Upper Hampstead, NB was promoted to Glory on May 7, 2013, at the age of 95. He was predeceased by his first wife of 45 years, Edith (MacDonald) Clingo. His death occurred at the SJRH with his family by his side. Keith was born in Farnborough, England, on December 15, 1917, the son of the late Capt. John and Maude (Gosden) Clingo.
Keith was a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent of Upper Hampstead Baptist Church, a Trustee and Secretary of Gagetown and Hampstead School Boards. He was the manager of the New Brunswick Apple Exchange for 20 years and was manager of Gagetown Apple Co-op for 15 years, retiring in 1983. Keith was an agent and director of Fundy Mutual Fire Insurance Company for 35 years retiring in 1991. He was also a member of the Sussex Vale Kiwanis, Golden K. Club.
He is survived by his sons John (Jack) and Maria Clingo of Woodstock, ON, Bob and Cindy Clingo of Green Valley, ON and daughter Alice and Dale Fidler of Quispamsis, NB; 7 grandchildren: Karin and Mark McMullen, J. Keith and Jennifer Clingo, Shelly Clingo, Andrea and Gary Vail, Alison and Andrew Reid, Rick and Stacy Fidler, Cindy and Jeff Jenkins; 16 great grandchildren: Marina, Katrina, Matthew, Xavier, Connor, Casey, Sage, Silver, Emma, Elizabeth, Ryan, Eric, Ricky, Zackery, Tyler, Nicole; sister Joan Moore of Fredericton; several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by stepchildren Reba, Kerry and Craig Sully and their families. He was also predeceased by his second wife Eleanor (Sully) Clingo; grandson Nathan Clingo; brother Derek; sisters Eileen Ebbett, Marjorie Burgess and Kathleen Gaunce.
Visiting will take place at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, Friday, May 10, 2013, from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm. The celebration service of Keith's life will be held at the Rothesay Baptist Church, 30 Vincent Road, Quispamsis, at 10:00 am, on Saturday, May 11, 2013. Interment will follow in Upper Hampstead Cemetery in the afternoon.

Lora Wood
1915-2013
In her 98th year, Lora Annie Wood (wife of the late Rev. Lewis Wood) of the Jordan Lifecare Center (formerly of Mill Cove, NB) went peacefully to be with her Lord on February 24, 2013 with her family at her side. Born on March 31, 1915 she was the 4th of 8 children of James and Miriam (Richardson) Pulsifer. She was raised in the small community of Wittenburg, NS and would always fondly reflect on the idyllic childhood she enjoyed there.
Lora married Lewis on August 29, 1941 and their 33 year ministry spanned more than 50 churches in 3 provinces. Following Lewis’ death in 1975, she spent most of her remaining years at her home in Mill Cove where she was perhaps best known for her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. She was a long time member of the Waterboro Baptist Church and part of the Gloria Dei Singers. She spent most of her life serving as organist over a 78+ year period in various churches. She retired in 2008 at age 93.
She is survived by her children, Lowell (Lynn) Meadow, NB, Paul (Carolyn) Quispamsis, NB, Miriam Grant (Cyril) Canterbury, NB, Juanita Fanjoy (Charles) Elgin NB, precious grandchildren, Anya, Heather, Derek, Craig, Jasper, Lisette, Carrie, Graham, Jonathan, Heidi, Christopher, Timothy and cherished great-grandchildren, Kyle, Vanessa, Connor, Victoria, Lucas, Kayla, Jordan, Jasmine, Ryan, Madeline, Natasha, Jordin, Hailey, Caitlin, Kathryn, Brayden, Kayli, Mya; sisters Mildred Burrows, Truro, NS, Miriam Larkin (Herbert), Wittenburg, NS; daughter-in-law Margaret Wood; sister-in-law Isabel Godsoe, Hampton, NB; brother-in-law Donald Wood, Moncton, NB, and very special friend Ron Copp, The Glades, NB. She was predeceased by her husband Lewis; siblings Willard, Lloyd, Morrill, Bessie, and Ralph; brothers-in-law Clifford Burrows, Layton Dodsworth, Colin Wood, Cartret Wood and William Wood; sisters-in-law Yvonne Pulsifer and Helen Watson; and nephews Lloyd Burrows and Ron Pulsifer.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Richard Morton for his ongoing care as her physician, and to the staff of the Jordan Lifecare Center for their loving and compassionate care that our mother received while a resident. Also to Bob and Jean Moss of Mill Cove, NB, for being such wonderful neighbors enabling mom to live on her own as long as she did. We are truly grateful to them for their love and concern for her.

Arthur Black
1920-2009
The death of Arthur Camp Black, age 88, of Cambridge-Narrows, occurred at his residence on Thursday, January 29, 2009. He was the husband of the late Evelyn (Pugsley) Black. Arthur was born on February 18, 1920, in Cambridge, the son of the late Frank and Susie (Camp) Black.
Arthur Black was a kind loving man that lived a blessed life. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a hard worker who had a passion for nature and animals; he had a particular fondness for horses. He was a simple man who loved simple things, and would never back down from a challenge. He was determined and always saw the positive in everything. But his true love in life was his family and friends. Nothing pleased him more than company! He loved to sit and look at the lake, admire the view and talk about things past and present. Arthur has always been a resident of Cambridge. His parents wanted him to go to school to become a teacher–he had other ideas, and to secure that aspiration he flunked out of public school so he could go to Agricultural School. At the age of 20, Arthur married his life long partner Evelyn on December 18th 1940, and became a proud father of Gordon in 1941 and two years later welcomed Donald to the family. In 1967 the three of them became partners in the farm. In 1976 they sold the farm and Arthur continued working the family homestead with Evelyn. Over the years he was an early member of the local volunteer fire department, a member of the Knights of Pythias, a member of the First Cambridge Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for over 60 years, also a Sunday School Superintendant and teacher, and Arthur was head of the cemetery Committee. Arthur and Evelyn enjoyed many years together and saw many milestones and lots of changes, but in 2004, Arthur bid Evelyn farewell and at the head of their final resting place it states “until we meet again”. "Now they have been rejoined once again."
He is survived by sons Gordon and Barbara and Donald and Marlene all of Cambridge-Narrows; grandchildren Stuart and Sheila Black, Gregory and Maureen Black, Dianna and Danny Boudreau and Margaret Ann Black; great grandchildren Dylan Black and Jordan Boudreau; sister Ethel and Gerald Smith of Lower Cambridge; niece Marie and Ronald Perry; and great niece Dawn Perry.
He is resting at First Cambridge Baptist Church, MacDonald’s Corner, NB. with visiting Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 2, 2009. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Charles Whitenect
1911-2009
The death of Charles Thomas Whitenect, of Hatfield Point, NB, age 97, occurred at the residence of his daughter, on Sunday, February 1, 2009. Charles was the husband of the late Eleanor May (Henderson) Whitenect and son of the late George and Georgie Wood (Trott) Whitenect.
Charles was a farmer and woodsman until his retirement. He lived in his birth home all his life. He loved the outdoors and never strayed too far from the country. It has only been the last few years that he did not have his little garden plot in the back yard. Special thanks to Pat Hughes, his caregiver and close neighbours, as without their help he would not have been able to remain in his home alone in later years. He looked forward to the regular visits from the Extra Mural nurses. Charles loved to reminisce over the past and sadly missed his deceased friends, Charlie Burns, Clyde Veinot and Ray Kimball.
He is survived by daughter Natalie Renshaw of Rothesay; grandson John Renshaw of Saint John; several great-grandchildren; paternal niece Joan (Bjarnason) Leggett; several maternal nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters Mary Vail, Frances Bjarnason and Violet Cosman.

Jeremiah Greenwood
1983-2012
The death of Jeremiah Trevor Greenwood, age 29, of Waterborough, NB, occurred on Saturday, December 8, 2012. He was born on December 4, 1983 in Fredericton, NB, the son of the late Garth & Dawn (Fanjoy) Greenwood.
Jeremiah is survived by his son Jesse James; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Interment will take place in Young’s Cove United Church Cemetery, Young’s Cove, NB, in the spring.
