Ovila Joseph Caissie

The death of Mr. Ovila Joseph Caissie of Wellesley Ave, husband of Clairilda (Rousselle) Caissie for 56 years, occurred on Sunday, April 13, 2003 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Fair Isle, NB, he was the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Rousselle) Caissie. Ovila had served in WWII, and was employed with Savoie Transport as a tractor trailer driver, a checker at the Winter Port and J.D.I. Ltd until his retirement. He enjoyed wrestling, hockey and his Tuesday night card games at the Denis Morris Memorial Centre. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons Donald (Debbie) Caissie of Saint John, Edgar (Noriko) Caissie of Toronto, five daughters Andrea (Bill) DeBow, Norma Drew, Aurella Caissie all of Saint John, Melinda (Larry) Cook of Quispamsis and Brenda (Kevin Langlais) Caissie of Moncton, one brother Edgar (Aline) Caissie of Fair Isle, NB, one sister Josephine (Rufin) Gionet of Lower Caraquet, nine grandchildren, five great - grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he is predeceased by four brothers Rheal, Alphee, Andrea and Saturnin, two sisters Irene Savoie and Evelyne Richard, one son-in-law Lenny Drew.

Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424) with visiting on Monday, April 14, 2003 from 7-9 PM and Tuesday, April 15, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at 11:00 AM from St. Pius X Church. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to St. Pius X Building Fund, or the charity of the donor’s choice. “See ya in the funnies.”

Shirley J. (Mason) Lockhart

The death of Shirley J. (Mason) Lockhart occurred on Saturday, April 12th, 2003, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, NB, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Florence (Hannan) Godin. Shirley is survived by husband Ronald Lockhart; two daughters: Carla Bouchard (André) of French Village and Krista Foster (Sean) of Saint John; three sons: Stephen (Margie) of Saint John, Paul (Jennifer) of Rothesay and Ronald of Saint John; two bothers: Donnie Mason (Evelyn) of Rothesay and Doug Mason (Valerie) of Grand Bay-Westfield; five grandchildren: Ashley, Stephanie, Courtenay, Isabelle and Matthew; three step-grandchildren: Tyler, Justin and Alex; several nieces, nephews and cousins, including special niece Kim Brown. She was predeceased by two sisters: Norma Brown and Joan Ritchie.

Visitation will be held at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, on Sunday and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The service will be held on Tuesday, April 15th, 2003 at 1 PM at Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Robinson officiating. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation or Kidney Foundation of Canada.

Eleanor (Lee) Matzen

The death of Eleanor (Lee) Matzen occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, April 13th, 2003, at the age of 70. Born in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Ida (Friars) Lee. Eleanor is survived by husband Gunther Bernhard Matzen; daughter Nancy Hoffman (LeRoy) of Saint John; two sisters: Dianne Schaefer (Robert) of Martinon and Marie Poirier (Gerald) of Saint John; two brothers: Donald Lee (Patricia) of Dipper Harbour and Gordon Lee of Vernon, BC; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by grandson Erich Christ; three sisters: Vivian and Connie Martin and Phyllis Allan; two brothers: Bobby and Edward Lee.

Visitation will be held at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424), on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The service will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, April 16th, 2003 at 2:15 PM. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital (Palliative Care Unit), Canadian Cancer Society or to any charity of the donor’s choice, would be appreciated.

Daisy (Whitford) Michaud

The death of Daisy (Whitford) Michaud, wife of the late Rineau Michaud occurred at the Loch Lomond Villa Nursing Home, Saint John, on April 11, 2003. Born in London England she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Daisy (Wood) Whitford. Daisy was a war bride and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary RCL Branch # 33, Edmundston, NB. She was active in IODE and at the Villa she was an adopted grandparent for The Boys and Girls Club of Saint John, along with many other volunteering duties. She was a kind, caring, loving and devoted mother and grandmother to 6 daughters, 2 sons, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, she will be sadly missed. She is survived by daughters Valerie Bennett (Fred) Memphis, Tenn. USA, Patricia Picard (Gerald), Edmundston, NB, Maureen Michaud (John Bagnall), Fredericton, NB, Susan Stevens (Richard), Saint John, NB, Barbara Oliver (Kenneth), Fredericton, NB, Denise McCallum (Robert) Courtice, Ont., two sons Maurice Michaud (Marguerite Gourdeau), Montreal, Que., John Michaud, Montreal, Que., one cousin Betty Windmill, Gosport, England. She is predeceased by one sister Lily.

Resting at Brenans Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, (634-7424). There will be no visitation at the request of the family. A memorial service will be held on Monday April 14, 2003, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Loch Lomond Villa, Saint John. In lieu of flowers remembrances to any local food bank or donor choice would be appreciated by the family.

Greta Christina (Larminie) Mowatt

The death of Mrs. Greta Christina (Larminie) Mowatt, of Rothesay, NB, wife of the late Erskine A. Mowatt, occurred on Friday, April 11, 2003 at her residence. Born in Montreal, Quebec, she was the daughter of the late Mr. And Mrs. William J. Larminie. Greta was a member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Rothesay, NB. She was a volunteer for the Canadian Red Cross, and was a former member of Riverside Golf and Country Club. She is survived by her son, David E. and his wife Jean E. of Rothesay, four grandchildren, Dr. James Mowatt, Dr. John Mowatt, Colin Mowatt, and Ann Mowatt, and her daughter-in-law, Lee Mowatt. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her son, Ian.

By request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2003 at 2:00 PM from St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Rothesay, NB. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506) 634-7424.

Ilse J. F. Robbert

Mrs. Ilse J. F. Robbert, daughter of Heinrich and Anna Maria Klinge, died peacefully at her residence at the Carleton Kirk Lodge, on April 13th, 2003. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis Peter Robbert, as well as her sister, Mrs. Lili Holler, and her brothers, Werner and Erich. She was born in Germany, trained as a Dental Assistant and Nurse, served as a Red Cross Nurse during the Second World War, at the eastern front. In 1954, she emigrated to Canada (Oakville, ON), married and moved to Saint John, where she worked at the Provincial Laboratories until her retirement. She is survived by her niece, Ilse Holler, wife of Dr. John C. Pond, Rothesay, NB, and nephew, Pastor Manfred Holler and wife Gabriele, Bielefeld, Germany, grandnephews, Carsten (Sabine), Bielefeld, Germany, and Eckhard (Renate), Luebeck, Germany, and grandniece, Almuth, Bielefeld, Germany.

At her request, there will be no visitations. A memorial service will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, Second Street, Saint John, NB, on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. Donations may be directed to the Red Cross, SPCA, Cherry Brook Zoo, or the donor’s choice. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506) 634-7424.

Jules J. Robichaud

The death of Mr. Jules J. Robichaud of Chance Harbour, NB, husband of Ella (Burbridge) Robichaud, occurred on Sunday, April 13, 2003 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Inkerman, NB, he was the son of the late Alphonse and Denise (Power) Robichaud. Jules was self employed throughout his working career in the lumbering industry. He had a great love for his family and friends, and enjoyed gardening and reading. Jules is survived by his loving wife, Ella, of 59 years, six sons, Douglas and Alphonse (Tania) both of Chance Harbour, James (Deborah) of Saint John, Paul (Donna) of Chance Harbour, Peter (Wendy) of Saint John, and Kevin (Jennifer) of Musquash, five daughters, Doris Dickson (Donald) of Perth Andover, Jacqueline Chorley (Kenneth) of Hampton, Jeannette Shannon (James) of Sussex, Donna Hodd (Christopher) of Musquash, and Denise Robichaud at home, three brothers, Peter (Emerisa), Phillipe (Melina), and Stanislas (Verne), one sister, Emerentienne Boudreau (Romeo), one sister-in-law, Florine Robichaud, 20 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia, and a brother, Jim.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at 10:00 AM from St. Rose de Lima Church. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Miles Edgar Boone

The death of Miles Edgar Boone, of Grand Bay-Westfield, NB, husband of the late Grace (Stevenson) Boone, occurred on Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Elizabeth A. (Jordan) Boone.

Mr. Boone was a Longshoreman with the Port of Saint John for 45 years, before his retirement and was a member of the International Longshoreman’s Association Union.

He is survived by one son, Allen Boone (Patricia) of Grand Bay-Westfield, one sister, Minnie Carpenter, of Saint John, two grandsons, Malcolm (Nancy) of Clarendon and Trent of Blagdon, three step-grandchildren, Wendy Bowles of Calgary, AB, Brenda Charlton of Hoyt and Shane Ogden of Hamilton, ON, one great-grandchild, 8 step-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

By request there will be no visiting at the funeral home. A private family graveside service will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date. Remembrances to the charity of the donors choice would be appreciated. Arrangements under the direction of Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).

Joseph M. Cook

The death of Mr. Joseph M. Cook of Ellerdale Street, Saint John, husband of Celina (Tena) M. (DeRoche) Cook, occurred on Thursday, May 29, 2003, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late Joseph and Hazel (Magee) Cook.

Mr. Cook was a life long resident of Saint John and was employed as a Blacksmith with Saint John Iron Works for many years before his retirement. He was a member of Carleton York Club, Glenview United Church and in his earlier years, he was an avid sportsman.

Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Malcolm J. (Barbara) of Ottawa, ON, David M. (Linda) of Saint John, Larry J. (Bobbi) of Lake Utopia and Stephen A. (Jennifer) of Saint John, two sisters, Barbara Richardson of Hampton and Dorothy Earle of Saint John, 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Gordon, Jackie, Percy and Donald and two sisters, Hazel Derry and Madeline Jenkins.

Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, May 31, 2003, at 1:00 PM. Interment in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Remembrances to the Shriners’ Hospital for Crippled Children would be appreciated.

Nancy Alice (Clark) Spragg

After a courageous battle with cancer the death of Mrs. Nancy Alice (Clark) Spragg of Willow Grove, wife of Donald Spragg, occurred on April 11, 2003 at her residence. Born in Quebec City, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Doris (Brewer) Clark. Nancy was employed with Irving Oil Ltd., Holiday Inn and LM Barry – Tele Direct for 18 years. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren, travelling, gardening was very creative in sewing, knitting and crafts. Besides her husband she is survived by one son Larry (Mai) Condon and one daughter Lynn (James) Veldres all of Fort MacMurray, Alberta, one brother Bruce Clark of Stratford, Ontario, two sisters Vivian (David) MacIntosh of Brighton, Ontario, Beverley (Donald) Gilpin of Chute Panet, Quebec, three grandchildren Matthew, Thames and Alexander, several nieces and nephews.

Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424) with visiting on Sunday, April 13, 2003 and Monday, April 14, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. There will be a private family service at a later date. Interment in Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Dorothy Hammond

The death of Mrs. Dorothy Hammond of 33 Smythe Street, Saint John, wife of the late Elmer A. Hammond, occurred on Saturday, May 31, 2003, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Hamilton, ON, she was the daughter of the late Adolphus and Mahy (Minnie) Amelia Emma Sarre.

Mrs. Hammond was a member of the Sea Gulls of Market Square Senior Citizens Club and was a former member of the Marco Polo Quilting Guild. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

She is survived by three sons, Howard (Gail), John (Heather) and Robert (Tina), three daughters, Marilyn Beyea, Lorraine Vanier (Butch) and Margaret “Peggy” Beyea (Bev), all of Saint John, many grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several cousins in Ontario. She was predeceased by her first husband, George Hannah, one son, George D. “Sonny” Hannah and one daughter, Dorothy A. MacKenzie.

By request, there will be no visiting at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at Ocean View Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at 11:00 AM. No flowers by request, remembrances to the charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements under the direction of Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).

Sadie I. (Palmer) Hovey

The death of Sadie I. (Palmer) Hovey, wife of the late Leon Hovey, occurred on June 1, 2003, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Carroll’s Crossing, NB, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Lila (Stewart) Palmer. She was employed in the house-keeping unit of the DVA Hospital and the Saint John General Hospital before her retirement. She was a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the New Brunswick Branch of the War Amputations of Canada. She is survived by her daughters Leona Wisted of Saint John, Marilyn Yurco and her husband Milan of Saint John, Natalie Hovey and her husband Anthony Marsh of Halifax, NS, her sister “Maggie” (Margaret) Gibbons of Fredericton, her grandchildren James, Doug, Rodney, Mark, and Melanie, her great-grandchildren Taylor, Jeremy, Nicholas, Chance, Delaney, Samatha, Bradley and Christina and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Marjorie and several brothers and sisters.

Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2003, at 1:00 p.m., from Brenan’s Chapel. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Remembrances made to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society or the New Brunswick Lung Association would be appreciated by the family.
