Morse, Ashley Jasper
MORSE, Ashley Jasper – Ashley Jasper Morse, 84, of Seal Cove, Grand Manan Island, N.B., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006 at the Grand Manan Nursing Home. Born on White Head Island, N.B., he was the son of the late Owen and Blanche (Tidd) Morse.
Ashley worked most of his life as a fisherman and later at the Connors Brothers sardine factory until his retirement. He was also a very faithful member of the Grand Harbour United Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Joyce (Bagley) Morse; two stepdaughters, Roseanne Cook, Georgia, USA, and Judy (Cole) Harvey, St. Catherine’s, Ont.; also one stepson, M. Vincent (Barbara) Guptill, of Seal Cove, N.B.; 11 step-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Nellie; three sisters, Lois Cossaboom, Marguerite Erb, and Ethelsa Guptill; and five brothers, Donald K., Kenneth, Ernest, Erling, and Bradford. He was also predeceased by one stepdaughter, Carolyn Dawn, and one stepson, Wade Guptill.
Visiting hours took place at the Grand Harbour Baptist Church, Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
The funeral service took place from the church on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006 at 1 p.m., with Rev. Gordon Walker officiating.
Internment followed at the Hillside Cemetery.

Haggerty, James Wayne
HAGGERTY, James Wayne - Unexpectedly, at the Kingston General Hospital, Kingston, Ont., on Oct. 17, 2006, Mr. James Wayne Haggerty, formerly of Pocologan, N.B. Born in Blacks Harbour, N.B., on Sept. 17, 1965, he was the son of Ralph and Nancy (McCullough) Haggerty.
A loving son, brother and father, James is survived by four sons, James Crichton, Joseph Myatt, Dale Crichton, and David McLaughin; his mother, Nancy (Gordon Dean), of Grand Manan, N.B.; his father, Ralph (Martha Mattatall), of Dartmouth, N.S.; one sister, Lorelei Haggerty, of Halifax, N.S.; one nephew, Damien Haggerty; maternal grandmother, Nancy McLean, of St. George, N.B.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
James was known for his love of music, especially his passion for the guitar. More recently, he could be seen tying flies in his spare time.
Rested at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. George, N.B., from where the service was held on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006 at 2 p.m., from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Keith Osborne officiating.
Interment followed at the Pennfield Rural Cemetery.
Visiting took place on Saturday evening.

Mahar, Hazel Bell
MAHAR, Hazel Bell - Peacefully, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B., with her family by her side, on Oct. 18, 2006, Mrs. Hazel Bell (Cooke) Mahar, wife of the late Sylvanus (Vean) Mahar, of Blacks Harbour, N.B. Born in Blacks Harbour on June 27, 1931, she was a daughter of the late George and Madiline (Johnson) Cooke.
A loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, she is survived by six sons, Howard (Shirley), of Truro, N.S., Robert (Betty), of Penticton, B.C., Roger (Rose) and David (Eliza), both of Blacks Harbour, N.B., Allen (Glenna), of Pennfield, N.B., and Randall (Trudy), of Edmonton, Alta.; six daughters, Dawn (Calvin) Justason, Norma (Gerald) Belliveau, Dorothy (Mike) Barry, all of Pennfield, N.B., Lucy Tracy, of Utopia, N.B., Janice (Ralph) Justason, of Seeley’s Cove, N.B., and Beth Mahar, at home; one son-in-law, Peter Seelye, of Pennfield, N.B.; two brothers, Wesley (Betty), of Pennfield, N.B., and Ivan (Carolanne), of Beaver Harbour, N.B.; two sisters, Beverly (Paul) Justason, of Pennfield, N.B., and Thelma (Joe) Chevarie, of Saint John, N.B. She will be dearly missed by her cat, Baby; her 21 grandchildren and her 14 great-grandchildren.
Hazel was predeceased by one daughter, Patsy Seelye; three brothers, Chester, Allen and Harvie; and four sisters, Bessie, Addie, Olive, and Avis.
Hazel was a caring and kind soul. She enjoyed knitting and fishing with the ones she loved. She was a member of the Fundy Tides Seniors club and a past member of the Eastern Charlotte Lions Club. Hazel attended the Wesleyan Church in Blacks Harbour.
Rested at the Wesleyan Church in Blacks Harbour, with visiting on Saturday and Sunday.
The funeral service took place from the church on Monday, Oct. 23, 2006 at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Bruce Cheney officiating.
Interment followed at the Pennfield Rural Cemetery.
In Hazel’s memory, donations to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

GRANVILLE, Richard Alan (Dec. 27, 1919 - Aug. 3, 2006) - At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., Aug. 3, 2006, Richard Alan Granville, of Queensway, St. Stephen, N.B., son of the late Stanley D. and Edith (Seeley) Granville.
Survived by his wife of 59 years, Elaine (Scovil) Granville; son, Michael (Ann) Granville, of Riverview, N.B.; daughter, Judy (Norman) Thornton, of Calais, Me.; grandson, Christopher Thornton, of Bangor, Me.; sister, Rosalie (Shreve) Angus, of Sackville, N.B.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held from The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, N.B., on Monday, Aug. 7, 2006 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Lyman Harding officiating.
The family received friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening, Aug. 6, 2006 from 7-9 p.m., and Monday, Aug. 7, 2006 from 1-2 p.m.
Interment in St. Stephen Rural Cemetery on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006 at 2 p.m.

DEVER, Frederick Joseph - At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, N.B., on Oct. 19, 2006, Frederick Joseph Dever, of Bayside, N.B.; son of Joseph A. and the late Frances I. (Guptill) Dever.
Survived by his wife, Sandra Ann (Babcock) Dever; daughter, Angie Reid (Jeremy), of Oak Bay, N.B.; son, Bob Dever, of Bayside, N.B.; two grandsons, Connor and Gavin; two sisters, Paula George (David), of Bucksport, Me., and Jerry Phillips (Bill), of Ontario; nieces and nephews.
Mass was celebrated Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006 at 10 a.m., from the St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church, Milltown Blvd., St. Stephen, N.B., with Rev. Paul Riley officiating.

Taylor, Doris Margaret
TAYLOR, Doris Margaret – Peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, N.B., surrounded by her family, Doris Margaret Taylor, wife of the late Thomas Henry Taylor, of St. George, N.B., passed on to be with the Lord on Oct. 23, 2006, in her ninetieth year. Born in Pennfield, N.B., on Oct. 27, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Irene (Wainwright) Palk.
She is survived by two sons, Blair (Susan) Taylor, of Red Deer, Alta., and Larry (Karen) Taylor, of Saint John, N.B.; seven daughters, Irene (Cecil) Moreside, of Calais, Me., Joyce Parks and Rosealene (Paul) Graham, both of Guelph, Ont., Beatrice Dorey, of Oshawa, Ont., Nancy (Ron) McFarlane, of Lake Utopia, N.B., Elizabeth (Phil) Marrs, of Old Town, Me., and Linda (Tim) Henderson, of St. Andrews, N.B.; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (Wesley) Cook, of Pennfield, N.B., and Eleanor Young, of Saint John, N.B.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Doris was predeceased by her husband, Thomas; one son, Eugene; one daughter, Lillian; one grandson, Philip Moreside; one son-in-law, Philip Parks; three brothers; and two sisters.
Dot was an avid gardener, and could often be seen planting flowers. She made the most of her life and always enjoyed helping others whenever she could. Dot’s greatest love in life was children.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. George, N.B. with visitation on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
The service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006 at 11 a.m., from St. Mark’s Anglican Church in St. George, with the Rev. Canon John Matheson officiating.
Interment will follow at the Christ Church (Anglican) Cemetery in Pennfield.

Clark, Katherine Mary
CLARK, Katherine Mary - Katherine Mary Clark, 56, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006 at a Calais, Me., hospital surrounded by her family, following a courageous battle with A.L.S. Katherine was born in St. Stephen, N.B., July 24, 1950, daughter of Carl and Geraldine (McAleenan) McShane. She married William Clark on Jan. 11, 1969 in Milltown, N.B.
Katherine was a Communicant of Immaculate Conception R.C. Church in Calais and enjoyed camping, gardening, spending time with her grandchildren, and living life to its fullest.
Surviving are her loving husband of over 37 years, William Clark; her mother, Geraldine McShane, of St. Stephen, N.B.; three children, Peter Clark and wife, Angela, of Calais, Me., Patricia Wentworth and husband, John, of Durham, Me., and Kirk Clark and friend, Erin Donnell, of Lakeland, Fla.; two grandchildren, Nicole Clark and Zachary Wentworth; five sisters, Linda Babineau and husband, Marcel, Bernadette O’Brien and husband, Mark, Donna McShane, and Anna McShane, all of St. Stephen, N.B., and Kim Avery and husband, Terry, of Fredericton, N.B.; five brothers, Mark McShane and wife, Carol, Jeff McShane and wife, Krista, Joe McShane and wife, Denise, and Gary McShane and wife, Jane, all of St. Stephen, N.B., and Tim McShane of Fredericton, N.B.; many nieces and nephews; and a special thanks to her aunt, Sallie McShane.
She was predeceased by her father, Carl McShane, and a brother, Daniel McShane.
A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, 2006 at Calais Cemetery.
