McCULLAGH, EDITH JESSIE - Peacefully at the Turnbull Nursing Home on June 14, 2006, aged 93. Edith McCullagh (nee Smith) was born August 3, 1913 in London, England and was educated at Selhurst Grammar School, Croydon, Surrey, England. She began her career with London Telecommunications (Continental Department). In 1940 she was seconded to the British Embassy in Paris and was a member of the Embassy staff evacuated to London shortly before the fall of Paris to the advancing German Army. Married to Harold McCullagh in 1941, she enlisted in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force in 1943 and served in telecommunications until 1945. With her husband and two young children she emigrated to Kenya, East Africa in 1951. There, she, her husband and sister-in-law operated an 800-acre coffee plantation near Eldoret in the Kenya Highlands. In 1954 she obtained her Montessori Teaching Diploma and taught at the Highlands High School for Girls in Eldoret, and later was appointed Vice-Principal of the Delamere Girls High School in Nairobi. After emigrating to Canada in 1969 she worked as secretary-accountant for the John Howard Society and in 1976 joined J.D. Irving, Limited retiring in 1992 at age 79. While living in Gardners Creek, New Brunswick, Edith was a member of Fairfield United Baptist Church and a founding member of the Quaco Crafts Guild. After moving to Saint John in 1973 Edith was a member of the Y Chorale, performed in a number of operettas at the Saint John High School, was a founding member of the Saint John Choral Society, a member of the Carleton Choristers, and a member of the Germain Street United Baptist Church Choir. She served for more than 10 years as a tutor for READ Saint John and for more than 11 years was a volunteer with Lakewood Headstart food and clothing bank, serving for nine years as secretary to the Board of Directors. She also worked for eight years as a volunteer with "Ten Thousand Villages" handcraft shop. Edith also volunteered at the Regional Library and delivered Meals on Wheels for eight years. Predeceased by her husband, Harold, Edith is survived by a son, Michael (Prue) of Colchester, England; a daughter, Moira (Joel) Levesque of Quispamsis, five grandchildren, Daniel and James McCullagh and Rachel (Rob) Reeve, of Colchester, Chris Levesque of Calgary and Lindsey Levesque of Fredericton and one great-grandson, Isaac, of Colchester. She is also survived by two sisters, Kathleen Withers of Fairfield, and Pam (Nick) Barfoot of Saint John, as well as nieces and nephews in Canada and England. Moira and Michael would like to pay tribute to some very special people - Cora Leaman and Wendy King, Edith's devoted caregivers while she resided at Chateau de Champlain, and the nurses and staff of Turnbull Nursing Home whose love, care and compassion for Edith are sincerely appreciated. Arrangements are being handled by Brenans Funeral Homes. At Edith's request there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Brenans, Paradise Row, on Friday, June 16 at 11:30 a.m., followed by a reception. Memorial donations to Lakewood Headstart, Turnbull Nursing Home Foundation, or the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.

THOMAS, MARGARET ALICE The death of Margaret Alice Thomas of Stanley, wife of Murray Thomas occurred on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton, NB. Born in Stanley, NB, she was a daughter of the late William Howard and Edith (Pringle) MacKinnon. Before retirement Mrs. Thomas worked for the Federal Government. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Brian Thomas (Judy) of Fredericton and Kevin Thomas of London, ON; one daughter, Karen Bradley (Royal) of Ajax, ON; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation by request. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2006 at 2 pm from the St. Peter's Presbyterian Church, Stanley with Rev. Kimberly Barlow officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers for the service are: Vernon MacKinnon, Gregory Thomas and T.J. Ross. A reception to follow the burial in the church hall. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Personal condolences may be offered through www.york.com

MACLEAN, FERN I. Fern I. MacLean of Fredericton, NB and formerly of Benton, New Brunswick at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Wednesday, June 14, 2006. She was predeceased by her husband W. Arthur MacLean. Born at Benton on December 23, 1918. Daughter of the late Charles D. and Annie B. (Anderson) Godsoe. Survived by one brother Edwin Godsoe of Benton, NB; Sisters-in-law Mary Dean, Elizabeth Stapleford; Nieces and nephews Fern was predeceased by one brother Douglas Godsoe. And sister Jean Godsoe. Resting at The Culberson Funeral Home 188 Connell Street, Woodstock, N.B. Visitation on Thursday, June 15, 2006 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services to be held on Friday, June 16, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. from The Culberson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Luke Weaver officiating. Interment to follow at the Benton Community Cemetery. If so desired donations to the Canadian Cancer or NB Heart and Stroke would be appreciated. KENNY, MONA IRENE (ROBERT) KENNY Mona Irene (Robert) Kenny of Wirral, N. B. passed away at the Oromocto Public Hospital with family members by her side, on June 14, 2006 at the age of 71. Mona is survived by her parents Ernestine (LeBreton) and Martin Robert of Pokemouche, four daughters Norma Shannon (Byron) of Hoyt, Rhea Rice (Brian) of Wirral, Estelle Kirkpatrick (Robert) of Wirral and Gaetane Peterson (Eric) of Ontario, three sons Norman Kenny (Jocelyne) of Hoyt, Rheal Kenny (Debra) of Wirral, Dennis Kenny (Judy) of Welsford, two sisters Doris Kenny (Dave) of Pokemouche and Irene Gionet (Victor) of Dieppe, two brothers Adeoda Robert (Doris) and Maurice Robert (Line) both of Pokemouche, , 25 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, several nieces & nephews. Mona was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church and was a Homemaker to her family. She loved to be with her family, play Bingo and cards, and enjoyed sewing and quilting. She is predeceased by her husband Elzear Frank Kenny, one son Ronald Kenny, one sister Rose Marie, one brother Guy Robert, daughter-in-law Glenda Kenny and grandson-in-law Trevor McCaw. At Mona's request there will be no visitation.. The family invited everyone to the Celebration of Mona's Funeral Mass to be held from St. Columba Catholic Church on Friday June 16, 2006 at 3 PM with Father Ralph McRae officiating. HARRISON, MICHAEL JAMES Peacefully at the Pallative Care Unit of the Queens North Health Center on Wednesday, June 14th, 2006 Michael James Harrison, of Cumberland Bay. Born in Midlands, N.B. son of the late Samuel Arthur and Julia Sophie (Powers) Harrison. Also predeceased by two brothers, Joseph (Cel) and George McNeil. Mike is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara (Miller); five children, Sam of Kitchener, Ontario, Donna (John) Black of St. Margaret's Bay, Nova Scotia, Gary of Edmonton, Alberta, Judy (Glendon) Wilson of Fredericton and Patti of Minto; two brothers, Raymond (Roxie) of Chipman and Bernard of Hamilton, Ontario; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; one niece and six nephews. Mike served overseas in World War II with the Carleton York Regiment. Resting at the Chipman Funeral Home until Friday when funeral Mass will be held from St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Chipman, at 10:00 a.m. with Father Peter Stephen officiating. CRONKHITE, NINA ADELINE Nina A. Cronkhite of Woodstock and formerly of Southampton, passed away June 13, 2006 at Carleton Memorial Hospital. Born in 1930, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Violet (Wright) Cronkhite. Nina is survived by her husband, Donald L. Brooks; one son, Donald Brooks (Gail), Southampton; four sisters, Phylena Drost (George), British Columbia, Christina Brooks (Don Kerr), Woodstock, Miriam Drost and Myrtle Cronkhite (James), both of Southampton; one brother, Deverne Cronkhite (Edith), Stanley; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Floyd Cronkhite, three brothers, Darrell, Arley and Frankie Cronkhite and a great granddaughter, Madison Rouselle. CHASE, KARL The death of Karl Chase of Fredericton, NB, occurred on Tuesday, June 13th, 2006 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton. Born in Portland, Maine, he was the husband of Jayne (Lynch) Chase and the son of the late Edgar and Simone (Robillard) Chase. Karl is survived by his wife Jayne; two sisters, Marina Chase (David Swidler) of Montreal, and Tina (Norman) Martin of Michigan; three brothers, Edgar (Staci) of California, Mark (Barbara) of Washington State, and Michael (Angela) of California; his father and mother-in-law, Robert and Joyce Lynch; brother-in-law Pat (Pam) Lynch; sister-in-law Cathy Lynch; his many nieces and nephews, many friends, and his dog Kacie. He was predeceased by his parents Edgar and Simone (Robillard) Chase. The family will receive visitors on Friday, June 16th, 2006 from 2-5 and 7-9 pm. KIERSTEAD, EMMA M. - The death of Emma M. Kierstead of Hampton, widow of Roscoe Kierstead occurred June 13, 2006 at Dr. V.A. Snow Centre. She was born in New Ross, Lunenburg County, daughter of the late Claude and Myrtle (Jarvis) Meister. Emma was a member of Maranatha Seventh Day Adventist Church. She is survived by one daughter Sadie "Chris" Donally, Hamilton, ON; one son Charles Kierstead (Evelyn), Creston, BC; several nieces and nephews.
