MURPHY, JOSEPH PATRICK - The Murphy Family announces the passing of Joseph Patrick Murphy unexpectedly in Saint John on Thursday, November 16th 2006. His family wishes to acknowledge the care received from the staff at the Cardiac Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Joseph was a graduate of St. Malachy's High School and Loyola University, Montréal. Joe was a local businessman and lifelong resident of Saint John. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Sunday afternoon from 1 to 5 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Monday morning at twelve o'clock. CURRAN SR., ROBERT JOHN - The death of Robert John Curran Sr. of Quispamsis, formerly of Fredericton, husband of the late Elizabeth (McConnell) Curran, occurred November 16th 2006 at his residence. He was born in Toronto on September 18th 1931, the son of the late George and Mary (Kearney) Curran.Bob served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1947 - 1969 retiring as a chief warrant officer in the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada. He served on U.N. peace keeping missions in Korea and Cyprus and held postings in Germany, Borden and Oromocto. He was a member of Kennebecasis Branch 58, Royal Canadian Legion. Bob is survived by one daughter Jean Curran (Dale Cooper), Quispamsis; one son Robert Curran Jr. (Anne), Perth Andover; four grandchildren Loren and Taylor Cooper, Alex and Luke Curran; one sister Rose Hill (Robert), Keswick, ON; several nieces and nephews. Bob's sense of humour and his love of story-telling will be missed. At the request of the family, no visitation or service will be held. TURNER, DARREL L. - Darrel L. Turner of Perth-Andover passed away at Northern Carleton Hospital on November 28, 2006. Born in Fort Fairfield, Maine on March 9, 1934, he was the son of the late James and Gwen (Campbell) Turner. Darrel leaves behind his wife Mary Turner (Sloat); his daughters Katherine Turner, Brenda Turner, Vicki Standish (Scott), Heather Brook all of New York State; his sisters Sandra Davenport of Caribou, Maine, Jean Cafone of Portland, Maine; his brother Russell Davenport of Kennebunkport, Maine; eight grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. Resting at Brunswick Funeral Home with visitation on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Friday December 1, 2006 at 2pm from the Perth-Andover Baptist Church. Rev. SPARKES, JOHN GRAY The death of John Gray Sparkes, husband of 65 years to Mabelle (Haywood) Sparkes, occurred on November 28, 2006 at the Ridgewood Veteran's Wing. Born in Sackville, NB, he was the son of the late Arthur and Freda (Gray) Sparkes. He served overseas as an instructing sergeant with the Canadian Army during WWII and has belonged to the RCL Branch #58. He was a charter member of the River Valley Wesleyan Church. He taught high school math in the Greater Chicago Area. Besides his wife he is survived by his daughters, Jacqueline Davis (Larry) of Naples, FL, Saundra MacKenzie (Stuart) of Long Point, NB; sister, Florence Noiles (Earl) of Amherst, NS; grandchildren, Kelly, Dusty, Laury, D. Grant, Morgan, Hannah, Dylan; eight great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Sister Sybil Smith predeceased him. Resting at Brenans Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 am from Brenans Chapel, followed by cremation. McIVER, DONALD M. - Donald M. McIver 79, of Moncton with his family at his side passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Monday November 27th 2006 following a brief illness. Born in River Hebert, NS he was the son of the late Merton and Greta (Meadows) McIver. Don started his career with the Bank of Nova Scotia in River Hebert, NS and later was employed with the T. Eaton Company Ltd., (over 30 years service), retiring as Eastern Canada Credit Manager. Member of First United Baptist Church, former Church Treasurer, church Usher and he served his church in various other capacities in past years. Don was Past Master of the former Salisbury Lodge# 20 F & AM and was a member of Harmony Lodge #20 F & AM, Salisbury. Member of the Past Masters Unit of Luxor Shrine, past Thricepuissant Grand Master of Moncton Lodge of Perfection, member of Britton Chapter of Rose Croix, member of the NB Sovereign Consistory, member and immediate Past Provincial Grand Master of the Royal Order of Scotland. Member of the Moncton Probus Club and the Moncton K40 Club and was a former Village Councillor of Lewisville in their last term before their amalgamation with Moncton. He was a former treasurer of the Hillsborough Station Project which over saw the construction of the original station, and he was a former member of the N.B. New Horizons Program for Seniors (Senior Model Railroad Layout). Former member of the Moncton Model Aircraft Club. He was the founder of Don's H.O. Service (model railroad supplies) and was still involved with his associate Chuck Kinney. Member of the Moncton Model Railroad Association, member of the Maritime Federation of Model Railroaders and former treasurer of the Moncton Model Railroad Society. Don was the former Project Treasurer during the Construction of Atlantic Baptist University and was the First Licensed Projectionist in Nova Scotia at the River Hebert Theatre. Don will be sadly missed by his children, Janis Collette-Durie (Ray), Turks & Caicos; David (Kim), Dartmouth, NS; Peter, River Hebert, NS; grand- children, Max and Spencer. Special friend, Marilyn Horsman, Moncton; sisters, Della Maxwell (John), Clark's Harbour, NS; Helen Bartlett (Bill), Charlottetown, PE; several nieces and nephews. JANES, DONALD E. – Donald E. Janes of Saint John passed away Monday November 27th, 2006 at the St. John St. Stephen Nursing Home. Born in 1927 in Saint John he was the son of the late William and Caroline (Burbridge) Janes. Donald is survived by his wife, Winnifred (Clayton) Janes of Saint John; one son, Donald (Margie) Janes of Maces Bay; daughters, Holly (Allison) Chiasson, Lynn Glaspy, Karen Janes all of Saint John; one brother, Robert (Phyllis) Janes, Saint John; sisters, Mary Hanley and Jean Damon both of Saint John and Betty (Kenneth) Cole, Grand Bay-Westfield; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Donald was predeceased by two sons, Richard and Douglas; four brothers, Clement, Walter, Gordon and Frederick; and two sisters, Elsie Wills and Verna Basted. Donald worked in the Auto Body industry for the Saint John Dry dock, Downey Ford and later owned and operated Bab's Auto Body in Red Head. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved hunting, music and spending time with the "kids". Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd. DELAY, MARY AUDREY - With great sadness the family of Mary Audrey Delay announces her passing on Thursday, September 28th 2006, in Edmonton. Audrey was born in Saint John on April 26th 1923, a daughter of the James Leo and Annie Loretta (Walsh) Delay. She was educated at St. Vincent's Girls High School in Saint John and attended the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. After graduation from high school she received her Teachers' License from Teachers' College, Fredericton, then taught at St. Peter's and St. John the Baptist Schools in Saint John. An accomplished pianist, Audrey participated in many musicals sponsored by the Knights of Columbus at St. Vincent's High School. Audrey was predeceased by her brother, Rev. James L. Delay. She is survived by two brothers, William Walsh Delay (Valerie) of Calgary, and Edward Michael Delay (Barbara) of Rothesay; and several nieces, nephews, grand- nieces, and grandnephews. Mass of Christian Burial was held on October 2nd, 2006 at St. Joseph's Basilica, Edmonton. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Rothesay, on Saturday morning, December 2nd 2006, at ten o'clock. SMITH, AUDREY IRENE 1930 - 2006 Audrey Irene Smith, of Riverview and formerly of Fredericton, passed away Monday, November 27, 2006 peacefully at home, following a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 76 Born in Harcourt, NB on August 8, 1920 she was the daughter of the late Sherman and Emma (Mitton) Young. Audrey worked as a Registered Nursing Assistant, with the Victoria Public Hospital Pediatrics Unit and later with the DVA Unit in Fredericton before retirement and returning to Riverview. Audrey was affiliated with the Riverview Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter Joslyn Howatt of Fredericton; her son Colen Smith and his wife Carla of Riverview; her grandchildren Allyson Howatt of Orono, Maine, Karen Gilmore and her husband Jason of Dartmouth and Ryan Smith of Riverview; a sister Della Young of Moncton; also by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Mitchell C. Smith 1994; son Matthew in 1965; by one brother and four sisters. The family will be receiving relatives and friends at Riverview Funeral Home, Pine Glen Road Riverview on Friday, December 1, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. The funeral service will be held at Riverview Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at 2:00pm with Rev. Jonathan Gorham officiating.
