MACKAY, ROBERT LESLIE Suddenly on December 3, 2006, at McAdam, NB, Robert Leslie MacKay, of McAdam, NB, died as a result of an accident at the age of 51. Beloved father of daughter, Bonnie (Stuart), sons, Rob (Amy) and Brad. Also survived by his mother, Helen MacKay, brothers, Donnie (Joyce), George (Pam), David and Willard (Rose), sisters, Ruth (Hal), Marjorie (Lorne), Emeline (Randall), Mary Ellen (Keith) and Judy (Dale), several half brothers and sisters, many nephews and nieces, including a close nephew, Andy (Diane), aunts, uncles and many friends and acquaintances. Robert is predeceased by his father, David MacKay and brother, Gerald. Funeral Service will be held at the Voice of Pentecost Church, McAdam, NB on Thursday December 7, 2006 at 2 PM. VALIQUETTE, DANIEL "DAN" The passing of Daniel "Dan" Joseph Valiquette, husband of Celilia (Fleming) Valiquette, of Fredericton, NB, occurred on December 3, 2006 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on July 2, 1934 in Montreal, PQ, he was a son of the late Lucien and Suzanne (Vaughan) Valiquette. Dan was a retired Electrician from the Dorval Airport in Montreal. He was a member of St. Francis of the Assisi Parish, Lincoln, an active member of Knights of Columbus – 3rd Degree member of 9496 Council, Lincoln and of the Fredericton 4th Degree Assembly. Besides his wife of 49 years, he is survived by three daughters, Joanne Valiquette (Randy) of Fredericton, Susan Valiquette of Kamloops, BC and Michelle LaCroix (Norm) of Winnipeg, MN; one son, Robert Valiquette (Laura) of Stanley; seven grandchildren, Krystal, Jason, Alexandra, Matthew, Vincent, Chantal and Danny; one sister, Louise St. Jacques (Maurice) of Montreal, PQ; four brothers, George Valiquette of Ontario, Raymond (Pierette), Pierre and Jean Guy Valiquette (Louise) all of Montreal, PQ; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 8, 2006 at 12 pm from St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Lincoln, NB with Father Monte Peters officiating. A reception to follow in church hall. MAXWELL, CHARLES HERBERT - Charles Herbert Maxwell, 90 of Ridgewood Veterans Wing, Saint John, NB, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 3, 2006 in the presence of his daughter, Lorraine, son-in-law, Bob and Bob's brother (Herb's evening caregiver), Chris Harley. Herb was a son of the late John A. (Jack) and the late Charlotte (Dodd) Maxwell. He was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Margery (Savage) R.N. in 1999. He resided at Ridgewood since her death where he received excellent care. He considered it home. A graduate of Saint John High School and Modern Business College, he was subsequently employed by the Canadian Permanent Mortgage Corporation and later the Department of Veterans' Affairs at the Lancaster Hospital, Saint John West as Supervisor of Social Welfare Services. A sergeant and artillery officer in Coastal Artillery, Saint John, NB, Partridge Island, Gaspe, QC, Manitoba and later England, he transferred to the infantry division, serving with the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders (of Hamilton, ON) and served overseas during the Second World War. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant. Twice wounded and taken as a German prisoner-of-war, he was mentioned in Dispatches for gallantry following his release as a P.O.W. He was a Canadian liberator of Holland and was honored with a medal by the Dutch government in 2004. As a result of his war injuries he lost his right leg above the knee and became an active member of the War Amputations of Canada. Herb was branch president for New Brunswick at the time of his death. Herb spent a year in British Hospital before sailing for Canada to recuperate at DVA Lancaster Hospital where he met Margery, who became his nurse and later his wife. Mr. Maxwell took an active interest in Community affairs having been a member of the executive of the Board of Family Services and a member of the Board of Governors of the West Saint John Community Hospital. In addition he served a number of years on the Board of Centracare, and for ten years as treasurer of the NB Competitive Festival of Music. Mr. Maxwell also served as the first N.B. representative to the National Veterans' Affairs component of the Public Service alliance of Canada. Herb was a former member of Portland United Church and at the time of his death a parishioner of Saint Rose de Lima Church for over forty years. He was an assistant Scout Master with St. Rose Boy Scouts under the leadership of Mr. John Noddin, whose friendship he delighted in. Herb received his 15 year pin for service. Additionally he was a lector for over 20 years. He was a former member of the Saint John Garrison Officers Mess, United Services Institute of Canada and Past President of the War Amputations of Canada. He was a present member of both the Lancaster # 69 Branch Canadian Legion and the Lancaster Golden "K" Club. Herb was a true gentleman. He loved nature, stamp collecting, coin collecting, golf and was an avid gardener. He had a very sharp mind, a keen wit and a love of literature and poetry. Herb was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides his parents he was predeceased by sisters: Margaret, Jean (in infancy), Phyllis (Don Peacock) and his brothers: Don (Kay Allison), Bob (Emma Champignon), John and George. Surviving are two daughters, Lorraine (Bob Harley) of Cole Harbour, NS and Christina McLain of Toronto; niece Janet Leger (Maxwell) of Quispamsis, whom he considered to be like a daughter to him; granddaughters, Sarah Kate Harley (Chris Palmer) and Emily Lorraine Harley and only grandson, Matthew Maxwell Harley, all of the Halifax area. Several other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews survive as well. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visitation of Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Tribute to a Veteran Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Rose of Lima Church, Milford Road, Saint John West on Wednesday, December 6th at 12 noon. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Flowers are welcomed as Herb loved them. KILPATRICK, JOHN (JACK) CALVIN - The death of John (Jack) Calvin Kilpatrick of Saint John, occurred unexpectedly on Sunday, December 3rd 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Born 1937 in Saint John he was the son of the late John Kilpatrick and Katheryn Doyle. Jack worked for the Saint John Sugar Refinery for 35 years. Besides his parents he was predeceased by brothers Robert, Paul and Tom and sister Agnus Harvey. He is survived by half brother William McGrath (Dorothy) of Saint John; several cousins, nieces and nephews; special friends Debbie and Dwayne Bustard and their families of Saint John. MARTIN, W. ROBERT DR. - W. Robert (Bob) Martin of Ottawa, Ontario, passed away at Governor's Walk Retirement Home on Thursday, February 1st at 90 years of age. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dottie (nee Dorothy MacBride), formerly of St. Stephen, New Brunswick; his three children, Professor Jim Martin (Sue Hood) of Sydney, Australia, Mary Dalman (Dave) of Canmore, Alberta, and Debby Martin (Jeff Broughton) of Uxbridge, Ontario; eight grandchildren, Phoebe, Hamish, Conal (Sydney), Adrienne, Katherine, Julia (Canmore), and Christopher, Mitchell (Uxbridge); and his sister, Mary H. Martin, of Toronto. He was predeceased by his sisters, Jean Brady and Grace Pearsall, and by his parents, Dr. William Howard Martin and Viola Maude Martin (nee Hooper) of Toronto. Dr. Martin was born in Toronto, graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelors degree in Science and a Masters in Biology. He continued his studies at the University of Michigan where he received a PhD in Fisheries Biology. Like many Canadians during WWII, he interrupted his studies to serve his country and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. He worked in the Clinical Investigation Unit on the design of pioneering anti-gravity G-Suits. This involved successful operational trials from British Aircraft in the Mediterranean and North Africa. After his war service, he joined the Fisheries Research Board of Canada, initially at their research station in St. Andrews, New Brunswick as Investigator in charge of Groundfish Studies and later at their headquarters in Ottawa as Assistant Chairman, dealing with research stations all across Canada. During his career he worked with the International Commission for North West Atlantic Fisheries and later on acted as Canadian Commissioner for the International Whaling Commission. He retired from the government in 1976, but continued volunteer work for the Canadian Wildlife Federation and was Chairman of Fisheries Canada. He was well-known for leading a very active life. In his retirement, he pursued his various interests - palaeontology, travel, curling, skiing, swimming, biking, cribbage, children and grandchildren. In his later years, his life-long concern for the environment was an important theme.
