Sarah "Sadie" Robertson
1925-2008
Sadie passed away March 30th, 2008 peacefully at home surrounded by all her loving family. Born on August 20, 1925, Sadie was the daughter of the late John and Alberta Thompson of New Carlisle, Quebec.
Sadie is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Donald James Robertson of Lincoln, NB and six children; Carla Ross (Jim) of Lincoln, NB, Janice MacDougall (Harry) of Fredericton, NB, Diana Campbell (Doug) of Fredericton, NB, John Hayes (Patty)of Fredericton, NB, Jason Hayes of Victoria, BC and Donnie Robertson (Natasha) of Moncton, NB. Sadie is also survived by twelve grandchildren and soon to be 5 great-grandchildren, one sister and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 11:00 am at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home, 108 Winnebago Street, Oromocto, NB. A reception to follow at 5 Joan St. Lincoln . In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Canadian Cancer Society. (357-5100)
Douglas Edward Wall
1932-2008
The death of Doug Wall occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Tuesday, April 1st, 2008. Born in Truro, NS, he was the son of the late John and Audrey (Wentzel) Wall. Doug is also predeceased by his sister Patricia Tremholm.
Surviving Doug is his wife, Shirley Wall; his three children, Bruce Wall of Brampton, ON, Martin Wall of Truro, NS and Darcy Wall of Oromocto, NB; three grandchildren, Gregory, Joshua and Jeremy Wall; brother-in law, Vance (Carol) Stright of Waasis, NB; sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Boyd) Leeworthy of Dieppe, NB and mother-in-law, Lilian Stright.
Doug served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 32 years at various locations such as Shilo, Winnipeg, Gagetown, Valcartier, Germany before retiring in 1986 as a CWO in Ottawa, ON.
There will be no service by request. Donations in memory of Doug may be made to the Oromocto SPCA or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. 357-5100
Elizabeth Wells
1929-2008
The death of Elizabeth Wells of French Lake, NB occurred April 2, 2008 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born in Carlow, Ireland on March 22, 1929, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Nolan and loving wife of the late William Wells.
Survived by four sons, Bill (Sylvie) Wells of Quebec, Bob (Gina) Wells of New York, Dave (Mabel Stennick) Wells of French Lake and Tony Wells at home; seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Nicholas, Simon, Bobby, Molly, Mark and Joey; one brother, Johnny Nolan; one sister, Francie O’Malley; one sister- in–law, Mary Steele as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents she was predeceased by her sisters, Nell and Mary as well as her brother, Dick.
There will be no visitation by request. Memorial service will be held at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at 2:00 pm. Pastor Barry Vernon will officiate. Interment will take place in the Morrow Cemetery, French Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
Rita Mary McKay
1942-2008
The death of Rita M. McKay of Waasis, NB occurred at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008. Born in Bathurst, NB she was the daughter of the late Louis and Isabelle (Mullen) Duguay and wife of Jim McKay.
Survived by her husband, Jim; her children, Mona Leung (Jim) of Calgary, AB and their children, Benjamin and Christopher, Joseph McSorley of Fredericton, NB and his children, Billy and Jessica, and Jamie McSorley (Susan) of Moncton, NB and their daughter, Josie; her siblings, Linda Duguay, Charles Duguay (Winnie), Leona LeBreton (John Paul), Peter Duguay (Mona), Patsy Fairley (Mike) and Janet MacAloon (Mike); her brother-in-law, Gerald Parker as well as several nieces and nephews.
Rita is predeceased by her parents and brothers, Riel and Gerald.
The family wishes to thank all the nursing staff at the Oromocto Public Hospital as well as Dr. Snell for all of their kind and compassionate care given to Rita.
There will be no visitation by request. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Rita’s honor may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Stewart McNeill Foulger
1950-2006
The death of Stewart McNeill Foulger of Sussex occurred February 9, 2006, peacefully at home with his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Stewart was born at Sussex in 1950, son of the late Arthur J. and S. Isabel (Conrad) Foulger. He is survived by his wife Joan P. (DeBow) Foulger, daughter Julie Soucy (Terry), Apohaqui, son Steven Foulger (Colleen), Jeffries Corner, 4 grandchildren; Noah and Jensen Soucy and Rebecca and Tyson Foulger, sisters Connie Foulger, Winnipeg MB and Alice King (Tony), Vernon BC, several nieces and nephews and mother in law Pauline DeBow. He was predeceased by his brother Edward (Ted) Foulger.
The family will receive visitors at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex (506-433-2133) on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9PM. The funeral service will be held Sunday February 12, 2006 at St. Mark's Anglican Church, Sussex Corner at 2:00 PM. Interment will be at Trinity Cemetery in the spring. As expressions of sympathy, donations made to the Sussex Dialysis Unit or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
Hon. Joseph William Mombourquette
1922-2007
MOMBOURQUETTE, Hon. Joseph William (Capt. Ret’d; C.D.) … 85, Oromocto, New Brunswick. Joe died peacefully on November 27, 2007, at the Oromocto Public Hospital, in the presence of his loving wife Theresa. Joe was born on September 9, 1922 in Lower L’Ardoise, Richmond Country Cape Breton. He was the eldest son of the late Anthony and Clara (Sampson) Mombourquette, whom he dearly adored and honoured all the days of his life. He grew up in the small fishing community of L’Ardoise and began full-time work at the age of 13. Although only 17, he joined the Canadian Army in Halifax in 1940, as a member of the Princess Louise Fusilliers Regiment (PLF). The PLF saw action in Italy and Holland from late 1943 until May 1945, ending the war after freeing the coastal town of Dalfziel, Holland. His younger brother, Frank, died in action in Dalfziel on May 1, 1945 as a member of the Cape Breton Highlanders. At war’s end Joe had earned the rank of Sergeant and remained with the PLF until 1947, when he returned to school at College Ste. Anne in Church Point, NS. Upon graduation, he entered St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS, graduating with his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1952. During his years at St. F.X. Joe participated in every aspect of university life, including student government, the Co-op Society, Reserve Officer Training, the Varsity track and field team, intramural sports and the school’s religious activities. Joe was Student Council President in his senior year and was elected Life President of the St. F.X. Class of 52’. With his good friend, Frank “Fa Fa” MacNeil, he was co-recipient of the prestigious Larkin Trophy, awarded to students with the best all around commitment to academics, athletics, campus and religious life. He remained a dedicated alumnus and passionate supporter of St. F.X. and its sports teams, faithfully attending his 5-year reunions and keeping in touch with his fellow alumni. After graduating from St. F.X., Joe rejoined the Canadian Army as an officer and immediately began training to join the Canadian Forces, then fighting in the Korean War. Before going overseas, he married the love of his life, Theresa Marion Clannon, to whom he remained faithful and devoted during the 55 years of their marriage. Joe was in Korea from late 1952 until early 1954, when he returned to Canada and met his first child, Colin, who had been born while he was away. During Joe’s time in the military, he and Theresa were stationed in Petawawa, ON, Chatham, NB (where Peter and Kevin were born), Oromocto (where Michael and David were born), Montreal (where Maureen was born), finally returning to Oromocto in 1964. Joe retired from the military in 1973 with the rank of Captain, having served for many years as the Base Personnel Selection Officer. He moved with his family to Burton, NB, where he and Theresa have continued to live among wonderful friends and neighbours. Joe began a new career in 1973, as the Manager of the Manpower office in Minto, NB, where he made many new friends. He eventually transferred to the Fredericton Manpower office and was assigned responsibility for Project Second Career at C.F.B. Gagetown, assisting retiring soldiers find civilian work. A long-time supporter of the Progressive Conservative Party, Joe finally answered the call to political life in 1982 and was elected MLA for Oromocto-Burton-Geary. He was appointed to the Provincial Cabinet as Minister of Labour in 1982 and in 1985 was appointed to the Executive Committee of Cabinet. He did his best to serve his constituents with honour, ability and integrity, fulfilling the pledge he made during his first campaign. Following the 1987 election, Joe remained active in the Oromocto area community, continuing a life of service he had begun during the 1950’s. During his almost 50 years in the area, Joe served on the School Board, was a member of the Oromocto Lions Club and then the Burton Lions Club, was actively involved with the First Oromocto Scout troop, was an organizer for the Oromocto Winter Carnival, was the Master of Ceremonies for the Oromocto Pioneer Days for more than 10 years, was on the founding Board of Directors of the Oromocto VON, was a frequent canvasser for the Heart Foundation and Cancer Society and generally pitched in whenever anyone asked for his assistance or the use of his commanding voice. He was proud of his military service and loyal to his comrades, honouring their service through his participation in Branch No. 93 (Oromocto) Royal Canadian Legion, the RCR Association, the Korean Veterans Association, the Federal Superannuates National Association (FSNA) and by regularly attending reunions of his wartime regiment, the PLF. An avid sportsman and conservationist, Joe was President of the C.F.B. Gagetown Fish and Game Club in the 1960s and for many years was a member of Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed hunting and especially fishing, spending many days during his retirement years on the water with his buddies and his son Peter. In his earlier years in Oromocto, Joe enjoyed playing hockey and golf, and was a competitive curler and bowler. A faithful servant of his God and Saviour, Joe was a dedicated member of St. Mary’s Parish at C.F.B. Gagetown and then St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Oromocto. He was a member of the Parish Council at St. Mary’s and became its first Eucharistic Minister. At St. Vincent de Paul he was again involved in the Parish Council, serving several years as President of the Council. He was also an usher, reader and Eucharistic Minister and a 4th degree member of the Donald Clattenburg Assembly 1991 (Oromocto) Knights of Columbus and the Msgr. Boyd Council 6774 Knights of Columbus. In later years he was an auxilliary member of the Legion of Mary and a member of the Cursillo Community. After this remarkable life of accomplishment and service to his Church, community, friends and family, Joe has entered eternity to reunite with his family and friends who have gone before him. He will be deeply missed by Theresa, his loving wife, companion and soul mate of 55 years; his children: Colin (Arlene Pyke), Peter, Kevin (Jean Campbell), Michael (Beverly Edwards), David (Deborah Fraser) and Maureen (Dale Cook); his grandchildren: Steven, Alex, Neil, Nicole, Patrick, Mandy, Emily, Gabrielle, Spencer, Hailey and William; his great-grandchildren: Rachael, Alexander Joseph and Caylene; his brothers Danny (Anna), Walter (Nora May) and Freddie (Margaret), and his sister, Sister Rosemary, f.j.; his Goddaughters Marie (Clannon) Mombourquette and Barbara Ireland, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbours. He was predeceased by his brothers Frank and Raymond (Irene), his brother in law Joe Clannon (Kay), his sisters-in-law Mary “Minnie Kate” Briand (Jim), Elizabeth Briand (Alfred), Agnes Birrette (Peter) and Ann, and his granddaughter Catherine Fay. Joe loved his first home L’Ardoise and his adopted home Oromocto and cherished both for the opportunities and support which the good people in these communities gave to him and his family. Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home, 108 Winnebago Street, Oromocto, NB, on Thursday, November 29th from 2-4 and 7-9 with a tribute service held by the Burton Lion’s Club at 7 pm; and on Friday, November 30th, from 2-4 and 7-9, with a tribute service held by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch Number 93 at 6:45 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Oromocto, on Saturday, December 1st at 11:00 am, with Father Ken Weir as celebrant. Interment will take place immediately after the Mass in the adjoining cemetery. A reception will take place in the Church Hall following the burial. Julie Anne MacDonald
1966-2008
Julie Anne MacDonald of Lower Cambridge, NB passed away peacefully on October 27th, 2008, at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, Halifax, NS. Born in Goderich, Ontario, she is the daughter of Kathleen (Dalton) MacDonald and the late James MacDonald and wife of Ronald Dykeman. Julie is survived by her husband Ronald and her children Garret and Hannah, her mother, Kathleen (Dalton) Fitzpatrick (Ken) of Douglas, sister Shawna-Raye Endresen (Keith) of Douglas, several nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles.
Julie taught at the Cambridge Narrows Community School where she was a Methods and Resource teacher. She had a zest for life, was a world traveler, and was very active in her community. Her strongest passion was for her family and friends. Julie will be sadly missed by all whom she touched, as she was a gift to us all.
Visitation will be held at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home, 108 Winnebago Street, Oromocto on Thursday, October 30th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 31st at 11:00 am at the Jemseg Baptist Church, Rev Daniel Walton officiating . Interment will be in the Jemseg Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial tributes made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
Ethel M. Richardson
1940-2008
The death of Ethel M. Richardson of Jemseg, NB occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Friday, October 24th, 2008. Born in Durham, ON she was the daughter of the late Tom and Elva Stewart and wife of Gavin Richardson.
Ethel was a homemaker who enjoyed large family gatherings. She took great joy in her grandchildren who all live close by and always looked forward to their visits.
She will be sadly missed by her husband, Gavin; her children, Doug (Jennifer) of Hopewell Cape, NB and Faye (Reid), Carol (Darren), Brian (Shelly) and Heather (John) all of Fredericton, NB as well as her four granddaughters and three grandsons.
Ethel was predeceased by her parents, four brothers and two sisters.
In keeping with Ethel’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. Memorial tributes in Ethel’s honor may be made to the Arthritis Society and can be made at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home. (357-5100)
Arthur James Quinn

QUINN, ARTHUR JAMES - It is with great heartbreak that my brothers and sisters announce the passing of our father, Arthur James Quinn at the Oromocto Public Hospital on October 29, 2008. Predeceased by his wife Alice McNally, parents Robert and Stella (Hanley), his brothers Jack and Frank. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his sons, Bill of Toronto, Ont., Robert (Jackie) of Oromocto; his daughters, JoAnn (Bob) Wiseman of Oromocto, Susan (Dave) Patterson of Beaverdam, Sandra Quinn of Kitchener, Ont. and Jane (Dave) Smith of Oromocto; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one future grandchild he had blessed. He will be sadly and greatly missed by family and friends who loved him dearly. Visitation will take place at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home, Thursday, October 30, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm and Friday, October 31, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Church on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at 11:00 am with Rev. Ken Weir as celebrant. Elizabeth Dorothy Hill
1922-2008
It is with great sadness that the family of Elizabeth Dorothy Hill announces her passing on October 31st, 2008 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Elizabeth was born on August 17, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Warren and Melissa Harper. Besides her parents, Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, Gordon N. Hill as well as brothers, Ralph, Lawrence, Earnest and sister, Clara Brown.
Elizabeth is survived by sons, Kenneth, Robert (Caryle) Constance MacDonald (Clyde) all of Geary, NB; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and one great great-grandaughter as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Sunday, November 2nd, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. A memorial service will be held on November 3rd, 2008 at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Barry Vernon officiating. Interment will take place in the Spurden Carr Cemetery.
