FAGAN, Ellen Bernice (Bernie) Walsh 1915 – 2011: Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home surrounded by her loving daughter and family on September 15, 2011, Bernie Fagan, aged 96 years. Predeceased by her husband, Richard (August, 1985) and her sister Isabelle (Smyth) O’Brien. Left with fond memories her daughter, Bonnie Power (Nick); three grandchildren: Craig (Leita) Calgary, AB; Heather (Ken Ringer) and Brian (Tara), St. John’s; her three adoring great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Lauren and Jack Ringer; two sisters: Patricia McGrath, Paula Cussack; one brother, John and members of the Fagan, Smyth, Brophy, Walsh and Power families; her life-long friends: Kay Collins, Alice Doyle, Marg Alyward, Charlie, Catherine and Marcella Brophy, Stella Walsh and Mary Brophy (Boston, MASS) and other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Newfoundland Drive on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. with interment to follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined, donations in Bernie’s memory may be made to the CNIB, St. Paul’s Church, St. Patrick’s Mercy Home Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.

HALLIDAY, Robert J.: Passed peacefully away on September 14, 2011 at the Health Sciences Centre, Robert (Bob) Halliday, age 81 years. Left with fond and loving memories his wife of 58 years and best friend for 63, Myrtle; daughters: Sandra Halliday, Karen Halliday and son-in-law Jake Stezinar; brothers: Monford (Anne), Roy (Carol); sisters-in-law: Flora Morris (Harold), Bertha Moore, Evelyn Allen (Stewart); brother-in-law: Frazer Moore; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. WICKS, Blanche May – In her 80th year, passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 13, 2011, surrounded by her loving family that formed the center of her life, at The Salvation Army Glenbrook Lodge, St. John’s, NL. Blanche was born in St. John’s, NL on August 13, 1931. She was predeceased by her husband Roy H. Wicks and mother Mabel Davis (Jones). Left with fond and loving memories are her daughters: Beverly (Terry) of Toledo, ON, Debbie (John) of New Glasgow, NS and Michelle of Halifax, NS; son, Darrell (Valerie) of St. John’s, NL; grandchildren: Deidre, Bill, Ryan, Shaun, Adam and Emily; great-grandchildren: Ella, Kayla, Olivia, Roy, Will and Cohen; brother, Kevin Davis (Geraldine). The family would like to extend thanks to Major Linda Budgell, Major Bruce and Darlene Colbourne and The Salvation Army Glenbrook Lodge staff who participated in our mother’s care, for their professionalism, dedication, compassion and care and for also making our mother’s stay comfortable and secure and who have been a tower of strength for us. THORNE, Edward Carson: Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family on Monday, September 12, 2011 at the Palliative Care Unit, L.A. Miller Centre, Edward Carson Thorne, age 89 years. Carson was an entertainer during the war being proficient in playing the drums which he did until he was well into his fifties. Predeceased by brothers: Lloyd, Bert and Fred; sisters: Verne Hemmens and Margaret Rodgers; grandson: Wade Thorne. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 62 years, Helen Shirley (nee Bugden); son, Randy (Debbie); daughter, Deborah Hiscock (Ray); two grandchildren: Wayne and Wanda Thorne; sister, Grace Luby; and a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visitation on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m.; on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 -12 noon. PLOUGHMAN, Robert: Died on May 12, 2011 at the Ottawa General Hospital. Avid power-lifter who has resided in Ottawa since 1991. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories his daughter Samantha and her mother Linda Quinton; son, Julien and daughter Annie and their mother Caroline Smale; his mother Georgina Jones and stepfather Bill Jones, other relatives and many wonderful friends in Ottawa and St. John’s. Passed peacefully away in the loving arms of his mom and dad at the Janeway NICU on Friday Sept 9, 2011. Predeceased by Joseph, Adrian and Doris Fleming, Jean and John Pike, and Vernnon Legge. Leaving with cherished memories parents Ashley Normore and Christopher Pike. Also leaving with precious memories Grand- parents: Joan Fleming and Gerry Normore, Gord Pike (Lorna) and Lynn Legge; Great –grandparents Helen and Gerald Normore, Bridget Fleming, Gord Pike and Evelyn Legge. Also leaving a large number of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends on both sides of the family. PIEROWAY, Judith Esther (nee Broomfield): Passed peacefully away after a courageous battle with cancer on September 6, 2011 at the Leonard A. Miller Centre, Judy Pieroway, age 59 years. Predeceased by her parents, George and Eva Broomfield and brother Edward. Left with fond and loving memories her husband Roy; children: Stephen (Jen), Christopher (Cali), Allison Stordeur (Andrew); three precious grandsons: Nicholas, Oliver and Joshua; brothers: Bob (Rosalind), Paul and Tom (Pam); sisters: Betty Breen (Stan), Ruth Caines (Tom), Joan Korzeniowski (Greg), Debbie Bachly (Brian) sister-in-law, Evelyn (Ed's wife) and many loved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. BURKE, Joan Ann (nee Vinicombe): Passed peacefully away with dignity and grace following a long, courageous battle with cancer, Joan Ann Burke, aged 64 years, surrounded by her loving husband and family. Leaving to mourn with beautiful memories her devoted husband, Rollie; cherished children: John (Beth), Doug (Crystal Butler), Julie (Jason Bloye); twin sister, Mary (Bob Barton), Anne (Paul Maher); sister-in-law, Judy (Frank Dawe). Also her precious grandchild Kristi Joan and expected twins in December. She will be greatly missed by her special aunts and uncles, Betty (Bernard Prowse), Joan Murphy and Kevin Duff; also her life-long best friend Lynn St. George. Joan will be remembered with love by her nieces and nephews: Rob (Lori), Jen (Brycen), Katherine, James (Angie), Emily (Tim), Lesley Anne (Peter) and Erin; as well as her many cousins, extended family and life-long friends. She was an inspiration to us all. Those who knew her love her. The family will strive to continue in her footsteps of her loving and caring ways.
