David John Hughes - Passed peacefully away on June 10, 2016, David John Hughes. Pre deceased by his parents. Leaving with loving memories his wife Sharon; son Michael (Heather); precious granddaughter Kayelin, Ontario; sister Brenda (Peter) and family in England; brothers in law Ken (Janet), Gary (Ruth); nieces, nephews, family and friends. Thank you to the staff and residents at Kenny’s Pond, and special thank you to Dr. Pamela Snow. Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Tuesday, June 14 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from St. Mark’s Anglican Church on Wednesday, June 15 at 2 p.m. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program.
Fillier, Harold Wilson
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Harold Wilson Fillier announces his passing at St. Clare’s Hospital, in St. John’s, on the 10th of June, 2016. Harold was born in Englee in 1952. He is predeceased by his father Hubert Fillier, brother Leamond Fillier, and brother-in-law Monty Brown. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Mary Shannahan; mother Rhoda Fillier; brothers Hardy (Patsy), Varrick (Pansy), and Edwin (Lily); sister Joan (George); sisters-in-law Kay Brown and Ivy Fillier; 3 brothers-in-law Leo Boland, Kevin Shannahan, and John Shannahan; special friends Colin Williams, Gary Purcell and Robert Nicol; as well as a large circle of family and friends. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Gough, Dr. Ruby L. - Passed peacefully away on Monday, June 13th, 2016, in her 93rd year. Predeceased by her husband, Dr. James Gough; her parents, District Inspector William F. and Susanne Case; her brother, William Case; her sister Jessica and brother-in-law-, Judge Jack Seneshen; brother-in-law James Powell; and dear friend Dr. Doreen Coultas. Leaving to mourn her children: Bill (Caren Moon) and Beverly Glover; five grand-children: Jim (Nancy); Sarah (Bill); Rachel (Adam); Jennifer Glover; Natalee (Jamie); and four great-grandchildren: Jacob, Amelia, Miller and Zachery. Also, her sisters-in-law, Lillian Case and Eileen Powell, nieces, nephews, a large circle of relatives and friends and her loving caregivers at Chancellor Park Continuing Care Facility. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Thursday, June 16th, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with service at Gower St. United Church at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 17th, 2016. Visitation will then be held at Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander, on Saturday, June 18 from 10 a.m. – 12 noon with interment to follow in the United Church Cemetery, Gander. Flowers will be gratefully accepted, or donations in her memory may be made to Gower St. United Church.
Martin, Kathleen
Passed away suddenly on June 14, 2016 in St. John’s, Newfoundland, at 76 years of Age. She is predeceased by her sons Edward (1965) and Junior (Albert, 2001). Left to mourn are her husband of 56 years, Albert; daughters, Alice(Brian) Mannion, Tonya (Todd) Collins; sons, Philip (Irene) Martin, Rod (Susan) Martin; her nine cherished grandsons, David, Stephen, Cordell, Blake, Evan, Luke, Aidan, Philip, and Harley; her siblings Albert (Kathleen) Clarke, Josephine Viguers, Doug Clarke, Ruth Hall, Irene (Jim) Shute, John Clarke, Mike (Sharon) Clarke; in-laws Philip (Nina) Field, Val (Barb) Field. Olive (Ed) Monahan, Dot (Pat) O’Brien, Robert (Bernadette) Field, Betty (Cal) Reid, Gladys (Paul) Coady. Bernice (Lawrence) Gardiman, Shirley Sullivan, Lucille (Mikey) Field; and many close friends and family. Kay spent many years camping at Butter Pot Park and more recently at White Pines Resort. Special Thanks to Dr. Maureen Hannaford and Dr. Christine Bassler for their wonderful care. Visitation will be held from 2pm-4pm and 5pm-9 pm on Thursday and Friday, June 16th and 17th, 2016 at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Funeral Services will be held at St. Teresa’s Church on June 18th, 2016 at 11:00 am. Squires, Nina Ethel (nee Tucker)
Squires, Nina Ethel (nee Tucker) – March 29th, 1937 – June 15th, 2016 - It is with broken hearts and such great sadness we announce the passing of a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Nina Ethel Squires (nee Tucker), age 79 years. Predeceased by her son Gerry in 1991; her mother and father Fred and Mary Tucker; sister Olga Dooley; brothers, Reg, Beattie and Don Tucker; sister in law Edith; brother in law Gordon; nephews, Len Tucker, Gary Tucker, Lloyd and Peter Mercer, Barry Squires. Leaving to mourn her loving husband of 61 years, Gerald; loving mother of her two daughters: Elaine Marshall and Joanne (Jake) Jones; proud grandmother of Kaley (Andrew) and Melanie; sisters: Mary (Jim) Whitten and Eleanor (Ron) Martin; brother, Fred (Linda) Tucker; sisters-in-law: Millie Tucker and Mary Squires; brother-in-law Leonard Dooley; her special and beautiful dog, Maggie; also a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Carmel Collins L.P.N., she was great support for “Mom” during the six days that she was at the Palliative Care Unit. And to the rest of the wonderful nurses, including the doctors who provided great care and support to the family, also a Thank you to Corrine Humby, Nurse Navigator. Thank you to our beautiful Eleanor Martin for being there for “Mom” with nightly prayers and support to all the family. Nina had a great love for life. She was honest and sincere with everyone she knew. She loved her family with all her heart and was loved by all who knew her. Kerr, Ian Ross
We are deeply saddened to announce Ian's passing at the Hamilton General Hospital on June 17th, just 2 weeks shy of his 50th birthday. Losing Ian leaves an irreparable hole in the hearts of the many who knew and loved him. Mourning his loss are Ian's loving wife of 25 years Kathy (nee O'Driscoll), his proud mother Marjorie 'Midge' Kerr (nee Simmons), brothers Andy and Brian (Tanya), brothers-in-law Joe (Joanne), Bill, Frank (Pascal) and Brian (Susan), nephews William, David and Rory, nieces Kathryn, Amy and Evelyn, mother-in-law Joan O'Driscoll (nee Dunphy), extended family and many cherished friends, including Ian's colleagues at Brookfield Renewable Power. Ian is pre-deceased by his father Robert Ross Kerr and father-in-law 'Cop' O'Driscoll. Ian will be fondly remembered for many amazing qualities - including his kindness, intelligence, reserved charisma, sense of humour and Scottish-rooted stubbornness. Ian has left us far too soon and will be dearly missed by all. Visitation will be held at Carnell's Funeral Home (329 Freshwater Road) on Wednesday, June 22nd, 2 - 4 pm and 7 - 9 pm. A celebration of life will be held at Clovelly Trails Golf Club on Thursday, June 23rd, 6 - 9 pm. Donations to the Heart & Stroke foundation or Scouts Canada are appreciated.
Slade, Peter James
The family is deeply saddened to announce the death on Sunday, June 19th at Carbonear, of Peter James Slade, age 58, after a brief illness. Peter was pre-deceased by his father Rev. Canon JAF Slade and mother Hilda L Slade. Left to mourn his loss are sons Timothy (Ashley), Benjamin, and Joshua Slade, sister Helen E Slade of Toronto, brother David S Slade (Eileen) of Moncton, nieces Carolyn Penney (Geoffrey) of St. John’s and Shelley Slade of Ottawa, as well as a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces, and other family and friends. Special thanks are offered to the doctors and nurses of the palliative care unit of Carbonear General Hospital. Cremation is taking place and will be followed by a brief service of remembrance at Carnell’s Memorial Chapel, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s on Wednesday June 22nd at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Lee, Dr. Teng Tak John F
Teng Tak John F. Lee passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in his 78th year. Dr. Lee was a respected family doctor for 43 years, working throughout rural NL, serving the people of St. John’s, St. Lawrence, Hermitage, Winsor, Brookfield, St. Mary’s and Conception Bay South. John is predeceased by his mother, Mak Fun Cheng; father, Lee For Yuen; brothers, Teng Lau and Teng Fu; grandson, Connor Stevenson and brothers-in-law, Uthley Wheeler, Cyril Greeley and Charles Hawkins. John leaves to mourn his wife of 50 years, Peggy (b. Norman); sons Norman and Robert; daughters, Margaret (Donald Stevenson) and Cindy (Daniel Desilets); grandchildren, Talia, Gabrielle, Felix, Milo and Oliver; sisters-in-law Betty (Fred Matthews), Ruby, Margaret, Sandra (Gerry Vardy), Linda (Neil Robbins), Helen (Randy Gillespie) and brothers-in-law Wayne, Robert (Imelda) and Brian. John also leaves to mourn a large community of colleagues and friends, including the Senior Social Club of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branches No. 1 and 56.
