Holloway, Alice Marie

Passed peacefully away on July 1st at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital surrounded by her loving family, Alice Holloway, aged 71 years. Predeceased by her parents James and Emma Duff; brother Jack Duff; baby sister Helen Duff; and sister’s in law Ada Snook and Christine Lambert. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband of 50 years Winston; her children Allison Pearcey (Steven), Valerie McNeil (John), Kimberly Vere-Holloway and Winston Holloway(Krista Brennan); grandchildren Troy Pearcey; Kara and Ashley McNeil; Winston and Brittany Vere-Holloway and Lucas Holloway; sister Nelly Bugden, brother Jim Duff (Diane); sisters in law Pearl Foley (Philip-deceased), Mary Kirby (Ed), Ruby Dodd (Edward); and Judy Mullett (Cliff); brothers in law Nelson Vere-Holloway (Bernice), Gary Vere-Holloway (Lucinda), Clarence Lambert and Jim Snook; also a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service to celebrate Alice’s life will be held from The Carnell Memorial Chapel, 329 Freshwater Road, on Tuesday July 5 at 3:00

Grandy, Maureen (nee Myles)

Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Center on July 2, 2016, Maureen Grandy, aged 66 years. Predeceased by her parents Maude and Jerome Sr. Myles; grandson Henry Grandy; brother Patrick Myles and father in law Raymond Sr. Grandy. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband of 47 years Elroy; children Leroy (Tina), Lower Sackville, NS, Steve (Rhonda Blackmore), Campbelford, ON, Dave (Maxine Mayo) St. John’s, Cheryl (Frankie Lundrigan), Frenchman’s Cove, and Siera Mary Wilson, her special granddaughter; grandchildren Corey and Maggie Grandy, Lower Sackville, NS, Taylor Grandy, Campbellford, ON, Ryker Deans, Oshawa, ON and Faith and Mason Wilson, Frenchman’s Cove; brothers Leo (Kathleen), Harold (Debbie), Jerome, Leroy (Nikki) and Mike (Kim); sisters Rita (Jack Smith), Shirley (Glenn Mitchener), Theresa (Jerry Whiffen), Marion (Tony Whiffen), Florence (Carter Baker) and Angela (Bernard Ducey). A special thank you to the staff of 4NorthA at the Health Sciences Center for they care and compassion shown towards Maureen during her stay there. Visitation will take place at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, St. Bernard’s on Monday July 4 from 1-9 p.m. Funeral Mass to follow at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church on Tuesday July 5 at 10 a.m. with Father John presiding. A Celebration of Life for Maureen will be held on July 18 in Garnish at the Garnish Community Center at 7 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined, and donations in Maureen’s memory may be made to the family.

Taylor, Arthur W.

Taylor, Arthur W. – Passed peacefully away on July 3rd, 2016, age 96 years. A veteran of the first 400 Royal Artillery Volunteers. He served with the 57 (NFLD) Heavy Regiment RA. Also with the 166th (NFLD) Field Regiment RA. He was a life member of Branch 56, Royal Canadian Legion, Pleasantville. Former member of Westgate Masonic Lodge AF and AM Corner Brook. Predeceased by wife Edith Stowe; also daughter Sharon; as well as sister Lillian Burry; brothers: Donald, Bertram and Hammond; son-in-law Harold Garcin and stepson Robert Murphy. Leaving to mourn wife Mildred; son Robert (Lisette); grandson, John; daughter Linda Garcin; grandsons: Michael (Trudy), Wayne (Shelly), Adam (Debbie); also five great grandchildren; son-in-law Rene Melanson; granddaughter Rebecca; sister Gladelle (Ivan) Butt and family; sister-in-law Ruby Taylor; niece Vonita and a number of nieces and nephews; step children: Karen (Charles) MacDonald, Robin (Bruce) Ferguson, Susan (Derek) Learning, Andrea (Hazen) Murphy, Christina (Sheldon) Murphy; also eleven step- grandchildren and ten step great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Patrick O’Shea for his 31 plus years of exceptional care. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Thursday, July 7th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Friday, July 8th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel. Interment to follow at the Field of Honor, Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. No flowers by request, donations may be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation or to a charity of one’s choice.

Passed away suddenly on July 4, 2016 at the age of 90. Predeceased by his wife Phyllis and son Neil Campbell. Leaving to mourn his daughter Heather Campbell; daughter in law Diane Campbell; granddaughters: Heidi (Steve Ryan), Melanie (Jason Kinsley) and Natalie (Chris Hillier); and 5 great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place, private funeral.

Banfield, Joan Violet

Joan Violet Banfield (Bennett) of Bell Island, NL, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend passed peacefully away on July 4th, 2016 after a short battle with cancer. Survived by her husband of 62 years, Edgar; children Rosalyn Williams, Juanita O’Leary (Sean), Robert (Paula), Valerie Weeks, Barry (Mabel), Lisa King (Wayne); grandchildren Elliot, Cavan, Ryan, Stephanie, Susan, Jamie Lee, Robbie, Emily, Allison, Travis; siblings Irene Harvey, Sandra Ward, Doris Haines, Leona Barnes, Glenda Tedford, Deb Welch, Vida Gough, Don Bennett and Bob Bennett. Predeceased by parents Hiram and Violet Bennett (Bowdren) and siblings Fred Bennett and Kay Loam. The family would like to thank the neurosurgery staff at the Health Sciences Centre and the Miller Centre Palliative Care. Visitation will take place from Carnell`s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Tuesday, July 5th from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, July 6th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Thomas Anglican Church on Thursday, July 7 at 2 p.m. Flowers gratefully accepted or memorial donations may be made in Joan`s name to The Daffodil Place or St. John`s Club Special Olympics.

Gerald Christopher Dawe P.Eng. Passed peacefully away surrounded by his loving family at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on Monday July 4, 2016; aged 62 years. Predeceased by his parents Eric and Evelyn Dawe. Leaving to mourn his wife Beverley, children Renée Pelley (Trent), Heather Tobin (Blair) and Andrew (Stephanie Woods), cherished grandchildren Brooklyn, Madison, Meagan, McKenzie, Jacob, Emily and Kylie, brother Geoff Dawe (Donna), special relatives; his mother-in-law Evelyn Newman, Marilyn Rex and Eric Parsons and his beloved dog Brandy. Remembered by many nieces, nephews, family and a large circle of friends. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Clare’s 6 East and Dr. H Bliss Murphy Centre for their care and compassion. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Tuesday, from 7p.m. – 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Michael’s and All Angels Church on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 2 p.m. Interment to follow in Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 10 years Penny; father Robert; mother Deborah Evans; brothers Thomas and Daniel; parents in law Dennis and Roberta Abbott; sister in law Elise Abbott; grandmother in law Jane Reid; good friends Shamus Whiffen, Nicholas Ryan, Brian March, Jeff Stewart, Meghan Corcoran and many more; also a number of cousins, aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends. Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held from Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 168 Macdonald Drive, on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 2 pm. With interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the St. John’s Central Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses.

Earles, Florence Patricia (Patsy) (nee Harding) – Passed peacefully away on Tuesday, July 5th, 2016 at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, aged 72 years. Leaving to mourn loving husband, Gordon; her son Gordon Jr. (Wanda); her loving grandchildren: Matthew (Alyssa) and Jennifer (Billy); also many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Special thanks to all the staff of 4-West at St. Clare’s Hospital for their care and support. Also special thanks to Michelle Wiseman and to the Abdul Khalig Family for checking in on Patsy. To all of Patsy and Gordon’s friends who helped out. Cremation has taken place at Patsy’s request. There will be no visitation or funeral service.
