MURPHY, James B. – Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre in the presence of his family, James Murphy in his 59th year, of Harbour Main. Predeceased by his son Ward, 2005, his parents: James and Teresa Murphy. Left with beautiful memories are his loving and devoted wife of 36 years, Anastasia (nee Healey), his sons: Jimmy (Michelle), Enfield, N.S., T. Jay (Wanda), Upper Gullies, his daughter, Bella (Chad Hawco) Fort McMurray, Alta., five grandchildren: Nicholas, Alexis, Mitchell, and Liam Murphy, and Quinlan Fewer, also Quinlan’s mother, Jackie Fewer, his sisters: Gert (Jerry) Tobin, Gaskiers, S.M.B., Margaret Slack, Toronto, Marie Dean, Mount Carmel, his brothers: Vincent Murphy, Conception Harbour, Patrick Murphy, St. John’s, also a large circle of extended family and friends. Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation on Sunday and Monday from 1 p.m.-9 p.m. Funeral will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, following 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial from SS. Peter and Paul Church, Harbour Main. SMITH, Margaret M. (nee Cahill) – Passed peacefully away at the Hoyles Home on October 13, 2007. Margaret Smith, aged 89 years. Predeceased by her husband Leonard Smith. Left with fond and loving memories her son: Bill (Patricia); 4 grandchildren: Brendan, Timothy, Emma and Laura; sister-in-law: Gertrude; special niece: Joan Bill as well as other nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. SQUIRES, Owen George – Passed peacefully away at the Dr. GB Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville, on October 13, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer, Owen George Squires of Clarenville, formerly of Bonavista, aged 59 years. Predeceased by his father, George Squires (1997), sister Alice (1998), father-in-law Gordon Dalton (1998), brother-in-law Allan Dalton (1997) . Leaving to mourn his loss, his loving wife of 33 years Ruby; son Christopher; mother Mary Squires; sister Mary (Alvin), Patsy (Edward), Pauline (Calvert); brothers Jim (Bertha) and George; mother in law Lillian Dalton and a large circle of relatives and friends. WHITE, Peter William – February 9, 1920 – October 14, 2007. Passed peacefully and gracefully away at home, in the presence of his loving family, Peter William White, aged 87 years. Formerly of Southeast Bight, Placentia Bay. Predeceased by his son Basil in 1987. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife Mary (Dray) with whom he was married for 54 years, his four children: Kenneth and wife Ada, Beverly and husband Paul Griffiths with whom he resided, Fintan and wife Ellen, Michelle and husband Wendell O’Reilly. Poppy White also leaves to mourn his six grandchildren whom he adored: Stephanie, Courtney, Mason, Heather, Daniel and Adam. He also leaves to mourn a large circle of family and friends most especially Aunt Marie and Uncle Kevin (Dobbin) who visited always. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation from 7-9 p.m. on Monday and 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday. GEORGE, Alfred, John (Jack) – Passed peacefully away surrounded by his loving family at the Escasoni Complex on Sunday, October 14, 2007, age 83 years. Predeceased by parents: mother Susie Brace and stepfather Archibald Brace, wife Annie, daughter Donna, son Fred and sister Leah. Leaving to mourn: son Lloyd (Marlene); daughters: Glenys Porter (Arch), Millie Gulliver (John), Evelyn Lee (Eugene), Mary Young (Gary), Gladys Quilty (Sid Hiscock), Greta (Greg Drake); twenty-two grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Mildred George; sister Mary of Ontario; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Evelyn and Victor Howlett. Also a large circle of family and friends. Visitation in the James J. JEFFERS, Stella E. (nee Jailal) – Wife of the late Norman Jeffers (August, 2007) of 5770 Spring Garden Road, Halifax, passed away at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre, on Monday, October 15th, after a short illness. She was in her 86th year. Stella was the daughter of the late Robert and Annie Jailal of Guyana. Predeceased by two brothers Ronald and Rupert Jailal and just recently by her loving husband of 65 years Norman. Stella is survived by their only daughter Maj Kellum (Jack); grandchildren: Penny Kellum (John Dibben) and Zachary Kellum (Johanna Reynolds) and two great-grandchildren: Henry Jacob and Elena Gray Dibben. Stella and Norman immigrated to St. John’s, Newfoundland from Trinidad in 1980, moving to Halifax in 1993. Stella’s passions were reading, traveling, films and flowers. She was an avid bridge player both in St. John’s and here in Halifax. She was an active member of All Saints Anglican Cathedral in Halifax. Leaving to mourn a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins plus many friends from the Caribbean, to Europe, to St. John’s, to Halifax, to Ontario. She is resting at J A Snow’s Funeral Home on Windsor Street in Halifax with visitation on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be on Thursday in Snow’s Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Cremation to take place after service.
JEWER, Howard Randolph – On Monday, October 15, 2007, his 70th birthday, Howard Randolph Jewer passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Complex, after a courageous decade-long battle with Multiple Myeloma. He was surrounded by his family and friends. Predeceased by his father and mother: Wesley and Mae Jewer; brother Mervin (Pauline); father and mother-in-law: James and Elizabeth Coates. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his loving wife Edna (nee Coates); sons: Paul (Jackie), Craig (Lee Ann) and Keith (Michelle); grandchildren: Michael and Matthew, Kaitlin, Adam and Sarah; brothers and sisters: Marion (Desmond), Winston (Joyce), Ruby (Kevin), Louis (Pansy), Eleanor (Terry), Rita (Barrie) and Pauline (Sterling); brothers and sisters-in-law: Evelyn (Jim), Alice (David), Howard (Jean), Margaret (Chris); also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Special thank you to all those who extended care at the Health Sciences Centre including Dr. Scully, Dr. MacIntyre, nurses and Josey at the ATP. Also special thanks to Rev. Calvin Coates, Rev. Guy Matthews, Brian and Mary Johnston and all close family and friends who have provided their support. McGRATH, Emma – Passed away at the Placentia Health Care Center on Monday, October 15, 2007, Emma McGrath of St. Bride’s, P. Bay, age 77 years. Predeceased by her parents William and Amelia McLennon, sisters: Caroline (Jack) and Imelda (Jim), brothers: Albert McLennon and Richard McLennon, Niece Marion Fisher and deceased members of the McGrath family. She leaves to mourn her loving husband and best friend David; her daughter Julia (Rick); grandchildren: Trent and Courtney; great-grandson Reid; her sister Ann McLennon; sisters-in-law: Nancy McGrath, Annie McGrath, Lucy Strickland, Christable Conway, and Margaret McLennon; brother-in-law Edward McGrath (Bride); as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Special thanks to the staff of Hillview Terrace Apts. especially Helena Lawor and Melvin Nash.
