Tarchuk, Janis
Progressive Conservative MLA, Banff-Cochrane
Janis Tarchuk was born in Guelph, Ontario, on May 10, 1956. She attended the University of Guelph, where she received her Bachelor Arts Degree, majoring in Political Science.
Janis has been a resident of Banff for 20 years and has worked in the Bow Valley in areas of financial planning; residential development, design and sales; and tourism service delivery. Prior to moving to the Bow Corridor, she worked in retail management and sales.
Janis has been very active in community affairs, serving as Chair of the Headwaters Health Authority Board, Executive Member of the Alberta School Boards Association, Trustee of the Canadian Rockies School Division, Director of Jubilee Insurance (Edmonton) and as a Board Member of the Alberta Education Technology and Research Foundation. Other previous volunteer involvements include Chair of Alberta School Board Association (Zone 5) and Vice-Chair of Banff National Park Health Unit.
Janis was elected MLA for Banff-Cochrane on March 11, 1997. She is currently Chair of the Law and Regulations Committee and a Member of the Private Bills Committee, the Standing Policy Committee on Health, the Health Facilities Review Committee, the Regional Health Authority Boundary Review Committee, and the Non-Profit Tax Exemption Review Committee.
Her personal interests include reading, skiing, hiking, recreational running, baseball and tennis.
Janis is married to Byron and has two children, Josh and Ashley, both attending the local high school.
