Ducharme, Denis
Progressive Conservative MLA, Bonnyville-Cold Lake
Denis Archie Ducharme was born in Bonnyville on March 14, 1955. After graduating from high school, he joined the operation of Ducharme Motors Ltd., a family-owned Ford/Mercury automotive dealership operating in Bonnyville since 1959. Denis was involved in the parts, service, sales and management of the dealership, eventually earning a business interest in 1981.
In 1986, he was elected to the Lakeland Catholic School Board. During his two terms with the Board he served as a Trustee, Vice-Chairperson and Chairman.
Over the years, Denis has been an active volunteer with numerous community, church and youth groups. He was an Executive Director of the Bonnyville and District Chamber of Commerce and served as the Friends of the Games chairperson for the North Eastern Alberta Summer Games.
He also has held the position of Chairperson of the Knights of Columbus Christmas Food Hamper Campaign for the past 10 years and hopes to continue working for this worthy community cause.
Denis was elected MLA for Bonnyville/Cold Lake on March 11, 1997, as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party. In addition to his regular legislative duties, he has been appointed to serve as a Member of the Standing Policy Committee on Education and Training.
Denis lives in Bonnyville with his wife, Rose. They have two children, Ronald and Rachel, who are both presently pursuing their post-secondary education at Alberta institutions.
