Blakeman, Laurie

Laurie Blakeman was first elected to the Alberta Legislature in 1997. She is opposition critic responsible for Community Development (including arts & culture, historical resources, recreation, cultural diversity & citizenship), and critic responsible for Women's Issues.
Ms. Blakeman holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Alberta, and a Certificate in Public Administration from the University of Alberta, Faculty of Extension. Her professional experience includes Executive Director of the Alberta Advisory Council on Women's Issues, General Manager of Phoenix Theatre and Theatre Network, Chief Trainer for the Medical Council of Canada LMCC Part II, Executive Director of the Alberta Snowmobile Association.
She is president of Celebration of Women in the Arts, president of the Provincial Association of Business and Professional Women's Clubs of Alberta, and chair of the December 6th National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. She is also president of the University of Alberta Drama Alumni Association and a member of ACTRA, City of Edmonton Cultural Diversity Committee, City of Edmonton Charitable Appeals Committee, City of Edmonton Grant-in-Aid Arts Peer Jury, Edmonton Business and Professional Women's Club, Edmonton Street Performers Festival, Edmonton Theatre Sterling Awards-Fring Jury, and First Night Festival.
Ms. Blakeman was born on May 23, 1958 in Edmonton. She has been a resident of Edmonton Centre (Rossdale) since 1986.
