Herard, Denis A.
Progressive Conservative MLA, Calgary-Egmont
Denis Herard was first elected MLA for Calgary - Egmont in 1993 and re-elected to a second term in 1997. He is currently a member of the Standing Committee on Private Bills and the Standing Policy Committee on Jobs and the Economy. Mr. Herard also has been appointed as the MLA Liaison to the September 1997 Alberta Growth Summit. His previous duties as an MLA include serving as Chair of the Education Implementation Team on Technology Integration, Business Involvement in Education and Chair of the Health Facilities Review Committee. He was Vice Chair of the Standing Committee on the Heritage Savings Trust Fund Act, and Co-Chair of both the Information Technology Management Council and the Health Information Network Committee. He was a Member of the Standing Policy Committee on Natural Resources and Sustainable Development and the MLA representative on the Human Resources Development Framework Team.
Prior to becoming an MLA, Mr. Herard operated a telecommunications and computer software business in Calgary. He has played an active role in Calgary's volunteer community, both as a founding member, author and advisor of the Telecommunications Management Certificate Program at Mount Royal College, and as Co-Chair of the 1988 Winter Olympics Telecommunications Volunteer Committee.
Mr. Herard was born in Edmonton and completed a bilingual education at St. John's College. He is an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Alberta Association of Architects and the Willowridge Community Association.
Denis and his wife Rose live in Calgary and have two sons, David and Christopher.
