Goulet, Hon. Keith
New Democrat MLA, Cumberland
Keith Goulet was born and raised at Cumberland House where his family was involved in the fishing, trapping and hunting industry as well as in the confectionary/restaurant and tourist business.
He holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Saskatchewan, and a Master of Education degree from the University of Regina. A Cree Metis, Mr. Goulet is fluent in both Cree and English.
Mr. Goulet is a past Executive Director of the Gabriel Dumont Institute, and has been a regional community college principal and an elementary school teacher. He has also worked as a Cree language consultant, and as a developer for the Northern Teacher Education Program.
He is active in Indian and Metis education as well as Aboriginal and Treaty Rights research. Mr. Goulet served as a Senator with the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan. Active in his community, he enjoys curling, hockey and other forms of recreation.
Mr. Goulet was first elected to the Legislature in 1986 and was re-elected in 1991, and 1995. He represents the Cumberland Constituency.
The first Metis Cabinet Minister in Saskatchewan, Keith Goulet was appointed Provincial Secretary and Minister Responsible for SGI in September 1992. In January 1993 he was appointed Associate Minister of Education, Training and Employment. On February 3, 1995, Mr. Goulet's responsiblity for SGI was transferred to a new ministry, but gained the responsibility for the Saskatchewan Computer Utility Corporation. On November 22, 1995 Mr. Goulet's responsiblity for Saskatchewan Education, Training and Employment was transferred to an new ministry, but gained the responsibilty for Northern Affairs.
Keith and his wife, Linda, have two children, Koonu and Danis.
