Forsyth, Heather
Progressive Conservative MLA, Calgary-Fish Creek
Heather Forsyth has dedicated a great deal of her life to the pursuit of voluntarism, especially in areas involving children and youth. She has served as president of her community league, as director of the Children's Wish Foundation, and in various capacities with the Parent Support Association. She also has been instrumental in working on the provincial Youth Justice Committee and is a past member of the Alberta Social Services Appeal Advisory Board and the Calgary Board of Health.
Ms. Forsyth was elected MLA for Calgary-Fish Creek on June 15, 1993 and re-elected to a second term on March 11, 1997. She currently serves as Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Health Planning and sits on the Members Services Special Standing Committee; the Standing Committee on Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing; the Legislative Review Committee; the Tripartite Process on Health Care Restructuring Senior Committee; and Calgary Caucus.
During her first term as an MLA, Heather was Chair of the Task Force on the Young Offenders Act and Vice-chair of the Public Affairs Committee. She also served as a member of the All Party Panel for the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act , the Health Workforce Rebalancing Committee, the MLA Implementation Team on School Board Funding, the Standing Committee on the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund, and the Standing Policy Committee on Community Services. She was the provincial government representative on the Calgary Stampede Board and a member of the federal/provincial Canada Pension Plan Panel.
Heather also is past Chair of a number of Councils and Committees, including the Council on Professions and Occupations, the Provincial Mental Health MLA Task Force, the Juvenile Prostitution Task Force, the Health Professions Act Implementation Steering Committee and the Transmission of HIV and other Blood Borne Infectious Diseases in Health Care Settings Committee.
Ms. Forsyth worked in the advertising industry for 15 years as a sales and marketing manager prior to becoming an MLA. She received the Silver Marketing Award and the 1989 President's Award and served as President of the Alberta Specialty Advertising Association.
As well as being involved in her church and community, Heather keeps fit by playing baseball, golfing and is a qualified figure skating and power skating instructor.
Heather, a native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, lives in the Calgary community of Parkland with her husband Gordon and their two sons.
