Aral MacDonald
Aral MacDonald, 75, formerly of 66 Oceanview, Dominion, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at the Glace Bay General Hospital.
Aral was a longtime resident of Seaview Manor, having resided there for 19 years.
Born in Reserve Mines, Aral was the eldest son of D.J. (Dan Jimmie) and Margaret MacDonald. Aral bore his affliction with great patience, dignity and courage and was an inspiration to all who knew him.
He will always be remembered for his beautiful smile.
Aral is survived by his sisters, Cellie and Anna, at home, Gerry (Mrs. Bobby Martell), Dominion, Estelle (Mrs. Bill Usher), Edmonton; aunts, Winnifred (Winnie), Montreal, and Frances (Fran) Saugus, Mass. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Aral was predeceased by two brothers, Daniel Alexander and Joseph Bernard and one sister, Shirley MacLeod, Dartmouth.
There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, 2 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Bridgeport at a later date.
Calm and peaceful he is sleeping,
Sweet is rest that follows pain,
We who loved him sadly miss him,
But trust in God to meet again.
M. Blanche Walker
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of M. Blanche Walker of 111 Brookland St., Glace Bay.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Ellen (Burton) MacLeod. Blanche was employed for 32 years at Murray's Restaurants in Toronto.
She will be sadly missed by her children, Jim (Betty) Odell, Helen (Wes) Spiers, both of Toronto, Barbara Odell, Glace Bay, and Sandra (Bill) MacKillop, Sydney; brother, Jimmy MacLeod, Glace Bay; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Basil Walker, grandson, Gerald MacDougall, brothers and sisters, Murray, Georgina, Bill, La, Margaret and Cassie and two in infancy.
Visitation for Mrs. Walker will be held Thursday, Feb. 27 from 2-4 p.m. only, funeral service immediately following in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Fr. John Graham will be officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Anne's Cemetery.

Mary Bridget Roach
Mary Bridget Roach, 75, of 443 Second St., New Waterford, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late John Malcolm and Elizabeth Jimima (McNeil) MacNeil.
Mary was a member of St. Agnes Church, New Waterford. At one time she was employed with General Instruments in Sydney, and for many years sold Avon products. Mary loved to knit but her greatest passion was her Sunday outings with her family, travelling and exploring Cape Breton Island.
Mary is survived by her husband, Alexander 'Gander' Roach; 10 children, Mary MacKinnon (Mrs. Larry Webb), U.S.A., Maria (Mrs. Pete McLean), New Waterford, Carmel (Mrs. Linus Muise), Ontario, Kathleen, Ontario, Lorraine (Matthew), Ontario, Henri (Laura) MacKinnon, Saskatchewan, Alexander (Paulette), New Waterford, Donald (Mary Theresa), New Waterford, Joseph, Ontario and Michael (Dawn), Ontario; four sisters and five brothers, Thelma 'Thelly' McIsaac, New Waterford, Carmel Rizzo (John), New Waterford, Dorothy, Ontario, Diane (Barry), Ontario, Joe (Margaret), Ontario, Bernard, Ontario, James 'Nakie' (Lillian), Ontario, Ronnie, Ontario, and Willie, New Glasgow; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by a daughter, Teresa Carmel, sisters, Elizabeth 'Betts' Springhall, Donna Pembroke, brother, Dennis and a child in infancy.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home in New Waterford (862-6439). A memorial mass will take place 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24 in St. Agnes Church, New Waterford, Fr. Everett McDow officiating. Reception to follow in the church. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery at a later date.

J. Perry O Donnell
J. 'Perry' O'Donnell passed away Feb. 16, 2003, at his residence in Lower Sackville.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the adopted son of the late Jack and Gertrude (Sponagle) O'Donnell.
He was a chef by trade and worked in various areas of the province. While in Glace Bay he was a member of St. Anne's Church.
He is survived by his birth mother, Gertrude O'Donnell, Toronto; and several aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, Friday, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be Saturday, 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Clifford Bisson officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. Anne's Cemetery.
Violet (Chubby) Arsenault
Violet (Chubby) Frances Arsenault age 78, of Amherst died Sunday, June 1, 2003 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Center, Upper Nappan, N.S.
She was a daughter of the late Howard and Georgina (Sharpe) Dort.
Chubby had a passion for her family and was an avid bingo player.
She is survived by six daughters Shirley Brown (Sam), Debbie Comeau (Frank) and Carol Worthington (Frank) all of Ontario, Sandra Mawdsley (Jack) of Salem, Cumberland Co., Darlene Voss (Albert) and Kim Arsenault (Chuck Oulton) both of Amherst, six sons Harvey of Moncton, Jeff, Ellsworth "Peter" (Cathy), Walter, Michael and Paul all of Amherst. She is also survived by four half brothers, one half sister, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren as well as her daughter-in-law Angie Pipes of Amherst, brother-in-law Amos Arsenault of Amherst and several nieces and nephews.
Chubby was predeceased by her husband Francis Joseph Arsenault, eight children and four sisters.
Her remains are resting at Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst with visiting on Monday from 7-9 p.m and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with parish prayers at 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. from St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, Amherst with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating.
Interment will follow in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery, Amherst.
