VanDINE (Finlay), Hazel Pearl
VanDINE (Finlay), Hazel Pearl - Died peacefully in her 82nd year in the Kelowna General Hospital, Kelowna, B.C. on April 11, 1999. Predeceased by her husband, Ernest Baker VanDine, originally from Fredericton, N.B., who died in 1979. She was the sister of George, Halifax. Mother of Peter Dow, San Francisco, Calif. and Douglas Finlay, Victoria, B.C., and grandmother of Nolan Dow, San Francisco, Calif. Born in Halifax, Hazel lived with her husband and family in Fredericton, Saint John, Hampton, Sussex and Moncton, N.B.; Lachine, Que.; and St. Thomas, Windsor and Toronto (Leaside). Upon retirement of Ernest from the Imperial Life Assurance Company in 1974, they moved to Kelowna, B.C. Most of her energies were spent in being a good wife and great mother. She also worked for Standard Oil, Simpsons and Eatons. She loved to play bridge. Hazel will be missed by all those who knew her. "Have a care". Cremation and arrangements under the care of Day's Garden Chapel, Kelowna, B.C.

KELLY, Garnet Trask
KELLY, Garnet Trask - 82, Church Point, Digby Co., and formerly of Little River, Digby Co., died April 13, 1999, at Yarmouth Regional Health Centre. Born in Little River, he was a son of the late Nelson and Vera (Trask) Kelly. He is survived by his dear friend, Margaret LeBlanc, Church Point; son, Larry and wife Karla, and grandchildren, Christy, Cheri, Allison and Aaron, Weymouth North; son, Tony and Anna Marie, and grandchildren, Gillianne and Antony, Little River; sisters, Mildred (Mrs. Clyde Denton), Mabel (Mrs. James Graham) and Alma Kelly, all of Little River and Vera Carter, Acaciaville, Digby Co.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Irene; infant twin brother, Gordon; sisters, Helena and Margaret. Visitation will be held today from 3-5, 7-9 p.m. from Jayne's Funeral Home, 7 Birch St., Digby. Funeral service will be held Friday at 3 p.m. from Little River Baptist Church, Rev. Greg Denton will officiate, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery, Little River. No flowers by request. Donations in memory may be made to Hillcrest Cemetery, Little River, or to local charities of your choice.

STEWART, Robert Vernon "Bob"
STEWART, Robert Vernon "Bob" - 68, Greenwood, Pictou Co., died April 14, 1999, at home. Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Edison and Anna (Doucette) Stewart. He had served with the Canadian Army Signal Corps for four years and had worked with INCO for nine years as an electrician. He joined Nova Scotia Power in 1968 as a lineman and had been an inspector until his retirement in 1981. He enjoyed music, guitar and singing, and animals. Surviving are his wife, the former Sadie Browning; sons, Brian, Cambridge, Kings Co.; Barry, Greenwood; daughters, Wanda MacDonald, Greenwood; Shari, at home; sisters, Irene Stewart, Frances MacKenzie, Joan Arnold, Greenwood; Lois MacDonald, Georgetown, Ont.; brothers, Raymond, Sylvester; Donald, New Glasgow; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service 1:30 p.m. Saturday in P&K MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow, Rev. Glenn MacDonald officiating. No flowers by request. Donations to the SPCA of Pictou County.

BETTS Lois Evelyn
BETTS Lois Evelyn - 69, South Union Street, Pictou, died April 14, 1999, at home. Born in River Hebert, she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Olive Mae (MacAleese) Green. A former employee of G.J. Hamilton & Sons, she was a 22-year employee of the Department of Fisheries at the Fisheries Training School, Pictou, retiring in 1995. She was also an adherent of Pictou United Church. Lois most enjoyed her family, and the company of friends and neighbours. Surviving are sons, Jerry, Pictou, and Murray and wife Rebecca, Calgary; daughters, Judy (Mrs. Earl Perry), Merigomish; Sheila (Mrs. William MacDonald), New Glasgow; Kathy Betts, Pictou; Marina (Mrs. Phillip Davidson), Riverton; stepmother, Mrs. Irene Green, Pictou; brother, Floyd Green and wife Isabel, Pictou; sisters, Virginia (Mrs. Ernest Patriquin), Scotsburn; Phyllis Green, Pictou; Susan (Mrs. Peter Fraser), Saint John, N.B.; 15 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a great-grandson; two step-great-grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick J. Betts; son, William in infancy; sister, Joyce Jollotta; brother, John W. Green. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, 7-9 p.m. Saturday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday from Pictou United Church, Rev. Jeanne M. M. Stright officiating. Burial will be Sunday in Hillside Cemetery, River Hebert. Family flowers only please. Donations may be made to the to IWK Grace Foundation.

DAUPHINEE, Mildred Rhoda, Silver Cross Mother - 101, Eastern Passage, died Wednesday, April 14, 1999, in Ocean View Manor. Born in Fox Point, Halifax Co., she was the daughter of the late William and Harriet (Verge) Miller. "Nannie", as she was known to all who knew and loved her, was a member of St. Peter's Anglican Church, Eastern Passage. From the time she was a young girl, she loved flowers and was an avid gardener who excelled at growing roses. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are son, Frank and wife Mary, Riverview, N.B.; Bernard and wife Beverley, Vincent-Jack and wife Ollie, Eastern Passage; Aubrey and wife Blanch, Stellarton; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Eldon J.; son, Wilfred; daughters, Aileen and Mona. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, Dartmouth. Funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17, in St. Peter's Anglican Church, Eastern Passage, Rev. John Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Anglican Church, Ocean View Manor Recreation Department or any charity.

Born in Rose Blanche, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Harriet Hatcher. She was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are son, Melvin, North Sydney; daughter, Ruth Smith, Mississauga, Ont.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry C.; sons, Wilson, Sidney, Alexander. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, funeral 2 p.m. Friday, both in W.J. Dooley Funeral Home and chapel, Rev. David Hann officiating. Burial to follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Donations to St. Matthew Wesley United Church or any charity.

HINES, Muriel - 97, 320 Alexandra St., Sydney, died April 20, 1999, in the Cove Guest Home. Born in Indian Islands, Fogo, Nfld., she was a daughter of the late Lorenzo and Lydia (Frampton) Collins. She was a member of Christ Anglican Parish. She operated a store on Victoria Road for 40 years, Hines Dairy retiring in 1970. Surviving are daughters, Florence; Rene Sives, with whom she resided prior to going to the home; Jean Coish, Lewisport, Nfld.; sons, Roy, Ontario; Aubrey, Florida; Donnie, Liverpool; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Harold Collins, St. John's Nfld.; step-sister, Meta Andrews, St. John's, Nfld.; step-brother, Kennie Frampton, Bedford. She was predeceased by her husband, Aubrey; son, Harold; brother, Albert Collins. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral 2 p.m. Friday in Christ Church, Rev. Glenn Kent officiating. Burial in Hardwood Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Christ Church memorial fund or any charity.

STEWART, Olive - 87, Westside Villa and formerly of 3 Hayward Court, Truro, passed away April 20, 1999, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Lower Onslow, she was a daughter of the late Homer and Matilda (Dingle) Taylor. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She resided in Truro for the past several years. She is survived by daughters, Geraldine, Carolyn and Audrey, all of Ontario; sons, Beldon, Truro; Ralph, Charles and Harold, all of Ontario. She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel; daughter, Phyllis; sons, William, Glen, Raymond and Cecil; sisters, Lillian MacLean and Muriel Mooring; brothers, Peter and William Taylor. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. today, with funeral service 3 p.m. Friday, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, Rev. Janet Blois officiating. Burial will be in Blackmore Memorial Cemetery, Upper North River. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation, or to a charity of choice.

GILLIS (MacLeod), Katherine Margaret - of Newington, Conn., at the age of 92. Formerly of Allston, Mass., beloved wife of the late Archibald D. Gillis, died April 23, 1999, in Hartford Hospital, Hartford, Conn. Katherine was born in 1901 in Jubilee. She was a daughter of the late Malcolm and Mary Ann (Ross) MacLeod. She was a member of the Newton Presbyterian Church, Newton, Mass. Katherine is survived by her son, Robert M. Gillis, and his wife Elizabeth, Newington, Conn.; daughters, Mary J, Hutchinson, Kansas; Donna J. and her husband Raymond MacDonald, Truro. She is also survived by granddaughter, Jane M., Vernon, Conn.; grandson, Andrew R., and his wife Jeanne of Newington; great-granddaughters, Sara J. and Melanie A., Newington. She was predeceased by son, Archibald N.; brother, Malcolm; sisters, Mary Christina, Joanna, Annie, Donalda, and an infant sister. Funeral will be at 11 a.m., April 26, in Newton Presbyterian Church, Newton. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today, April 25, 1999, in Eaton and MacKay Funeral Home, 465 Centre St., Newton. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Katherine's memory to a charity of your choice.

VEINOT, Beulah Mae - 75, Bridgewater, passed away April 23, 1999, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in New Elm, she was a daughter of the late Gilbert and Amanda (Weagle) Fancy. She is survived by her husband, Curtis; sons, Lorne and wife Marilyn, Blaine and wife Elizabeth; grandsons, Craig and Brett, all of Bridgewater. She was predeceased by sister, Irene Veinot; brothers, Ray and Earl Fancy. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today, funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday, both in Sweeny's Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater, Lic. Penny Bailey officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Flowers from the immediate family only.
