Leif Jacob "Jake" Jacobsen

JACOBSEN, Leif Jacob "Jake" - 80, Lower Sackville, died November 12, 2002, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. He was born in Star City, Sask.

He retired from DND staff. He enjoyed walking and was well-known for his visits to the local community coffee shop.

Visitation 10 a.m.-12 noon Friday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville, where funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.

Donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.

Aubrey Reid Bezanson

BEZANSON, Aubrey Reid - 75, Beaverdam, passed away November 13, 2002, in Dartmouth General Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sheet Harbour, he was a son of Jean (Kenney) and the late Parker Bezanson.

Aubrey was a retired chef for C.N. and VIA Rail. He and his wife, Marjorie, lived many years in Lake Echo. They moved to Eastern Shore in 1993 and took quiet pride in their home and garden.

Surviving are daughter, Janet; sons, Vincent, Robert and Joseph; stepchildren, Jeanette Burke, John (Judy) Bond; brothers, St. Clair (Doreen), Carl (Doreen); sisters, Agnes (Reg) Dorey, Bernice (Gordon) Spears and Sylvia (Otis) Keddy; stepgrandchildren, Marjorie (Charles) Naugle, Roger Burke; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie (Bond); sister, Sigrid Kaiser; sons, John and Douglas.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place 1 p.m. Friday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, Rev. Michael Mugford officiating. Burial to take place in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of Dartmouth General Hospital. Aubrey is now at peace with his beloved Marjorie.

Ida Cordelia Lysens

LYSENS, Ida Cordelia - 84, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2002, at her home in Dartmouth, after a short illness. Born in Wilson's Cove, Guysborough Co., March 5, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Rufus and Amelia (Lake) Wilson.

She was married to Paul Lysens of Fort William, Ont., who predeceased her.

She is survived by her son, Darrell and daughter-in-law, Margaret (Gall); grandchildren, Stacey, Anthony (Andrew), Kingston; Scott Lysens (Tracey), Dartmouth; Shawna (Robin Blondon), Lower Sackville; great-grandchildren, Paul, Edward, Angus, Calum; sisters, Lenna Hubley and Kathleen Kent.

She was predeceased by brothers, George, Augustus, Ralph; sisters, Jean Baker, Nellie Mailman.

She lived for many years on Slayter Street in Dartmouth, where she made many loving and long lasting friendships. She was loved and respected by all who knew her and she was always interested in and loved children. She will be greatly missed.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. today in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. A memorial service will take place 10 a.m. Thursday in Emmanuel Anglican Church, 152 Windmill Rd., Dartmouth, Rev. Dennis Walsh and Rev. Glen Kent officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association.

Gordon Richard "Dick" Forbes

FORBES, Gordon Richard "Dick" - 70, Lower Sackville, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on November 12, 2002, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Samuel and Beatrice (Finck) Forbes.

He was employed for over 34 years with the CNR and a long-time member of St. John Vianney Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a friend to all.

Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years, the former Helen Strachan; daughters, Linda (Bernard) Smith, Brenda Berggren (Jeff), all of Lower Sackville; Karen (Terry) Webb, Lake Echo; sons, Kevin (Crystal), Stephen (Joanne), Kerry (Michelle), all of Lower Sackville; brothers, Roy (Joan), Spryfield; Elwood, Halifax; Reginald, Moncton, N.B.; grandchildren, Michelle, Amy, Lisa, Laura, Nicolle, Alisha, Tari, Kaitlin, Keith, Morgan, Mitchell, Melissa, Michael, Matthew; great-grandchild, Zachery.

He was predeceased by brother, Gerald; sisters, Dorothy and Nora.

Visitation 7-9 p.m. today, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. Funeral service 10 a.m. Friday in St. Johns Vianney Roman Catholic Church, Father J.B. Christensen officiating. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Reception to follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Ella Mary Rose (Pope)

ROSE (Pope), Ella Mary - 77, Halifax, passed away November 10, 2002, at home, surrounded by her family. Born February 6, 1925, in St. Jacques, Nfld., she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Armenia "Minnie" (Noseworthy) Pope.

Ella was a member of the Loyal Orange Benevolent Association 915, for over 25 years.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Hubert Leslie; sons, Roy (Janet), Nathan (Lois), Larry (Judy), Clyde (Debbie), Clarence (Suzanne); daughter, Christine MacDonald; brothers, Norman and Clarence; sister, Marina; grandchildren, Kelly, Leigh-Anne, Kevin, Cheyenne, David, Kristen, Erin, Tyler, Amanda; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Haleigh, Mackenzie; special nanny to Alex and Amber French.

Ella was predeceased by son, David in infancy. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax, with visiting 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday in St. George's Anglican Church, 2222 Brunswick St., Halifax, The Reverend Canon Gary Thorne officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment in Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville.

Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.

Gary Peter "Benny" McGraw

McGRAW, Gary Peter "Benny" - 51, Halifax, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of family and friends on Wednesday, February 12, 2003, in the VG Site, QEII, after a hard fought battle with cancer. Born March 4, 1951, in Saint John, N.B., he was a son of Albertine (Losier) McGraw, Rothesay and the late Philip McGraw.

Benny was well-known for his love of hockey. He played with many teams including the South End Hawks, Moncton Beavers, Hardy Cup Mooseheads and the Halifax Junior Canadians. Gary made many friends in Halifax who loved and supported him during his battle with cancer. He was appreciative of the care provided by the doctors and nursing staff of the VG Site, QEII and his special angel, Mrs. Ronnie MacIntyre.

Gary is survived by his daughter, Amanda Stephenson, Florida; sisters, Pat, Sheila, Rothesay; Bonnie (Georges) Richard, Ottawa; brothers, Phil (JoAnn), Eldon (Charlene), Tom, all of Saint John; many nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends.

His remains are resting in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax, with visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral mass will be celebrated 12 p.m. Saturday in Saint Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, 6476 Bayers Rd., Halifax, Father Leonard Fischer officiating. Reception immediately following in the church hall, hosted by Saint Vincent de Paul Society of Saint Cahterine's which Gary was an active member. Cremation to follow. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 19, in Saint Mark's Roman Catholic Church, Quispamsis, N.B. A reception to follow in the church hall. Private family interment will be held in the spring in Saint John, N.B.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Gary's memory to Saint Vincent de Paul Society of Saint Catherines, 6476 Bayers Rd., Halifax, NS B3L 2B1 or Canadian Cancer Society, 2-5826 South St., Halifax, NS B3H 1S6 (902-423-6183) would be appreciated.
