GILES, Kenneth Malcolm
GILES, Kenneth Malcolm - 69, Elmsdale, formerly of Cole Harbour, died November 10, 1999, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. He was known to many as the friendly water man of Elmsdale. Born in Cole Harbour, he was a son of the late Albert and Isabell (Glazebrook) Giles. He is survived by sons, Stephen Kenneth, Dartmouth; Shawn William, Victoria, B.C.; daughter, Juanita Marie Hiscock, Elmsdale; grandson, Grant Kenneth Hiscock; also surviving are his sister, Verna (Mrs. Ronald Osborne), Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Henry, James "Albert", and Aubrey. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Church of St. Andrew, Cole Harbour, Canon David Reid officiating. Burial will take place in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Cole Harbour Rural Heritage Society, 471 Poplar Dr., Cole Harbour, B2W 4L2. Arrangements entrusted to Arimathea Funeral Co-operative, Upper Musquodoboit.
JONES (Cameron), J.J. "Jean"
JONES (Cameron), J.J. "Jean" - Dartmouth, a beautiful human being, departed this world, peacefully, November 10, 1999, in VG Site, QEII, Palliative Care Unit, following a two year battle with cancer. Born in Halifax May 24, 1943, she is survived by her husband, Reg; daughter, Kim. She adopted six greyhounds. She was an accomplished artist, calligrapher and silversmith. During her lifetime, she operated her own business, was a landscape gardener and caterer, and taught calligraphy and gourmet cooking when Dartmouth had it's own night school program. She had been a member of the Dartmouth Visual Arts Society, the Dartmouth Curling Club and the Wanderer's Lawn Bowling Club. She tirelessly gave of herself to friends who were ill, and friends who were troubled. She worked behind the scenes to assist the post mentally ill, and assisted in serving Christmas dinner at the kitchen operated by the old city of Dartmouth. She was passionately involved in the rescue of Greyhounds from racetracks in USA, and at the time of her passing she was the Canadian adoption representative for the Greyhound Placement Service of Maine. The job that gave her so much pleasure was as a school bus driver, with Stock Transportation, on Bus 418 Eastern Passage and Cole Harbour, where she shared her joy of life with the many children who were in her care while they were on her bus. She also worked constantly in support of the needs and rights of her fellow bus drivers. She was a friend to all. Her remains have been cremated. A memorial service will be held in the near future. Donations in her memory may be made to the QEII Foundation Palliative Care Unit. Arrangements have been entrusted to Dartmouth Funeral Home.

THISTLE, Kathleen Marcella - Bedford, died November 11, 1999, in V G Site, QEII, Halifax. Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Marcella (Jones) Thistle. She was the last surviving member of her family. She was predeceased by brother, Edward Francis; sisters, Mary Elizabeth, Margaret Cecelia and Rita Blanche in infancy. Visitation 7-9 today in T.K. Barnard Funeral Home, 1216 Bedford Hwy., Bedford. Graveside service 10 a.m. Saturday in family plot in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Sackville, Rev. David MacDonald officiating. No flowers by request.

THIBODEAU, Elizabeth "Eliza" - 87, Meteghan, Digby Co., died November 10, 1999, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Meteghan, she was a daughter of the late Elie and Francoise (Comeau) Robicheau. Surviving are son, Delbert, Meteghan; daughters, Rosemarie Deveau, Lucie Deveau, Dartmouth; Pauline Saulnier, Meteghan; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Leo; brothers, Alfred, Joseph; sisters, Zenaie, Marie. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, in Meteghan Funeral Home. Funeral 10 a.m. Saturday in Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Meteghan, Rev. Albeni d'Entremont officiating. Burial in parish cemetery.

WENTZELL, Burpee Lester - 74, Watford, Lunenburg Co., died November 9, 1999, in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co. Born in Watford, he was a son of the late Leslie and Ethel (Crouse) Wentzell. He drove a truck for many years and later worked for the Department of Transportation until he retired. Surviving are his wife, the former Audrey Grimm; daughters, Betty Anne Hiltz, Lantz; Bonnie Lou Levy, New Ross; sister, Elaine McCarthy, Conquerall Mills; brother, Glenwood, Watford; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by sister, Minola; brother, Dolan; grandson, Dwayne. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service 2 p.m. today, in Langille's Funeral Home, 5267 Main St., New Germany, Lunenburg Co., Rev. Karl Uhstrom officiating. Burial of ashes in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, New Germany. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or any charity.

O'BRIEN, Kathleen E. - 82, Queen Street, Parrsboro, died Wednesday, November 10, 1999, in the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Middleboro, she was a daughter of the late Waldo and Isabelle (MacFarlane) Howard. She was a loving nanny providing care to children for numerous families throughout the area for many years. She was a member of the Parrsboro Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for more than 20 years. She is survived by Allison Warren, Parrsboro; daughters, Bernice Welton and her husband, Ernest, New Prospect; Louise Gilbert and her husband, Ronald, Lakelands; Karen Smith and her husband, Lloyd, Parrsboro; a son, Frank and his wife, Robin, New Prospect; sisters, Norma Chambers, Sarasota, Fla.; Ruth Dupuis and her husband, Arthur, Sarasota, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, in Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Funeral 2 p.m. Saturday, in Trinity United Church, Parrsboro, Rev. James Bushell and Rev. Jeff White officiating. SARGEANT (Marsh), Elizabeth - 20, Elmira, Ont., passed away November 3, 1999, as a result of a car accident in Elmira on November 2, 1999. Born in Dorchester, England, she was the daughter of Marion Duncan, Clementsvale, who looked after her as her own since she was 19 months, after the tragic death of her first mother, Maxine. She is survived by her loving husband of one year, Michael Sargeant, Ontario; brother, Duncan Marsh; sister, Ruth Marsh, both of Clementsvale; father Ian Marsh, Harriston, Ont.; stepbrother, Terry Gudgon; stepsister, Mandie Gudgon, both of England; maternal grandmother, May Duncan, England; paternal grandmother, Doris Marsh, England. She will be missed by her friends at Ecole Secondaire de Clare, Sandy Lake Academy, Bedford, and Digby High School. She was a lover of music, her angelic singing in church, Tideview Nursing Home, Digby, and the Christmas Daddies will be greatly missed. A funeral service will be held in Harrison Pentecostal Church, Ontario. If you would like to give a donation in her memory they would be appreciated to CASA, Digby, or Chrysallis House, Kentville. She will be sadly missed by her family but we are comforted by the knowledge that her organ donation saved at least four other lives. We look forward to seeing you Elizabeth when Jesus comes again.

EDDY (Settle), "Bea" Emelene - 80, eldest daughter of the late Laurie and Harriet (Beck) Settle, (Cole Harbour and Dartmouth), passed away on November 16, 1999, in the Royal Alexandria Hospital, Edmonton, Alta. Bea is survived by her brothers, Lorne, John, Dartmouth; Arthur (Betty), East Chezzetcook; sisters, Margaret, Kearney Lake Road; Shirley O'Hearn, Dartmouth; nephews, William (Marie), David (Nicole), Edmonton; David O'Hearn, Dartmouth; niece, Madeline (Austin) Mannette, West Chezzetcook; five grand-nephews and a great-grand nephew. Bea was predeceased by a brother, Wilfred; sister, Helen, both in infancy; and Allan. She was also predeceased by her loving husband, Bill, in 1996. Bea will be remembered for her strong love for life, her strength of character, and the long lasting friendships she developed over the years. She was quite active in life, and traveled extensively, until recently, when due to ill health she moved to McQueen Nursing Home, Edmonton. Funeral services were entrusted to Howard and McBride Chapel of Chimes, 10179-108 St., Edmonton, Alta. Interment was in Westlawn Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Bea may be made to the Parkinson's Society of Alberta, 11111 Jasper Ave., General R-Wing, T5K 0L4.
