ROBINSON, John Thomas - 69, Ingonish Beach, Victoria Co., died April 18, 1999, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born at Ingonish Beach, he was a son of Pearl and the late Timothy Robinson. He was a member of St. Peter's Parish, Ingonish. Surviving are daughters, Cynthia Neufeldt, Stacey Anne, Kamloops, B.C.; sons, Carter, Williams Lake, B.C.; Carson, Craig, Toronto; Jason, Kamloops; sisters, Freda Young, Sydney Mines; Mildred Doyle, Ingonish; Anastasia, Myrna Hanley, Marion Robinson, Ingonish Beach; Monica Wilson, Cornwall, Ont.; brothers, Francis, Springhill; James, Ingonish; Leo, Joseph, Ingonish Beach; 13 grandchildren. He was predeceased by sister, Julia; brother, Frank in infancy. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, in Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home, Ingonish. Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Peter's Church, Rev. John Morrison officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Although born in Milton, she and her family lived in Montreal before returning to West Gore, Hants Co., at age 15. She became a school teacher and homemaker, and a mother of seven children. The family relocated to Dartmouth in 1949. Her life was dedicated to others in family, community and church work. She was a charter member of Wyndholme Christian Church. Surviving are daughters, Winna Smith, Clementsvale; Gwen Lefton, Dartmouth; sons, John, Kentville; Frank, Enfield; Malcolm, Kenneth, Dartmouth; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Munroe; daughter, Rhoda Menmuir; sister, Muriel Johnston. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Saturday in A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, Portland Street, Dartmouth. Funeral 2 p.m. Sunday in West Gore Church of Christ (Disciples), Rev. Marion Lloy and Angus MacDonald officiating. Burial in West Gore Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Multiple Sclerosis Society or Wyndholme Christian Church memorial fund.

McGILLIVRAY, Margaret "Maggie" - 91, Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford, formerly of Waterford Lake Road, died April 21, 1999, in New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. Born in New Victoria, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Dan and Marion (Young) McGillivray. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, New Victoria. Surviving are brother, Charles, Sydney; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Rosie, Lillian, Theresa; brothers, Albert, George, Bernie, Dan. Visitation 1 p.m. today in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral to follow at 2 p.m. today in St. Joseph's Church, New Victoria, Rev. Donald McGillivray officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Maple Hill Manor.

MESSERVEY, A. Bernadette - 45, Centre Burlington, Hants Co., died April 21, 1999, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of Francis Joseph Underwood, Windsor, and Mary Josephine Furey, Windsor. She worked at the CN rail for 28 years. She enjoyed life and lived it to its fullest. Surviving are husband of 19 years, Bryan; son, Robert Jacobs, Centre Burlington; sister, Ann-Marie Banfield, Dartmouth; brothers, Charles, Middle Musquodoboit; James, Lower Sackville; Cecil, Winnipeg; many nieces and nephews. Family flowers only by request. No visitation by request. Funeral 3 p.m. Friday in Atlantic Funeral Home Chapel, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. Burial to follow in Oakridge Memory Gardens. Donations to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.

DOYLE, Martin Maurice
DOYLE, Martin Maurice - 80, Westphal, died April 20, 1999, Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII, Halifax, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Roman Valley, Guysborough Co., he was a son of the late Martin and Annie (Carroll) Doyle. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Royal Canadian Engineers. He was a retired transport driver from CFB Shearwater. He was a founding member of Royal Canadian Legion, Caen Branch, Eastern Passage, and the Athletic Association of Eastern Passage and Cow Bay. He was a charter member of the Eastern Passage-Cow Bay Lions Club and a member of the Buffalo Club. He resided in Eastern Passage for a number of years. He is survived by his wife, Alison "Allie" (MacKenzie); sons Martin and wife Wendy, Halifax; Donald, New Brunswick; daughters, Mary (Mrs. Dennis Naugle), Dartmouth; Helen Wilson, Vancouver; Linda (Mrs. James Low), Hudson, Que.; Gloria (Mrs. "Grump" Graham); 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son in infancy; daughter, Annie; brothers, Lawrence, Michael, Peter, Carroll and John; sisters, Mary and Nellie; grandson, Jason; daughter-in-law, Cathy. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today and Friday, with Eastern Passage-Cow Bay Lions Club service at 7:30 p.m. today, Buffalo Club service at 7 p.m. Friday, followed by legion service at 7:30 p.m. Friday, all in J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 1234 Cole Harbour Rd., Cole Harbour. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Passage, Rev. Michael Walsh officiating. Reception to follow in the Lions Clubs, Hornes Road, Eastern Passage. Burial in Memorial Gardens, Westphal. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the neurology department of the IWK Grace Health Centre, Halifax in memory of the late Jason Doyle.

GILES, Douglas Warren
GILES, Douglas Warren - 78, Halifax, passed away July 4, 1999, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Cole Harbour, he was a son of the late Arthur and Eva Giles. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Royal Canadian Army (Princess Louise Fusiliers) and received an honourable discharge on March 6, 1946. From April 11, 1947, until retirement on October 31, 1980, he served with the Halifax Police Department. He was one of the first motorcycle patrol officers and served on the traffic division for ten years. In February of 1983 he began working for the province of Nova Scotia as chief of security for the House of Assembly. In 1996 he served as acting sergeant-at-arms for the House of Assembly and was appointed sergeant-at-arms in May, 1998. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 095. He is survived by his wife, Carmen B. (Snow) Giles; stepchildren, James A. Dixon, Saskatchewan; and Deborah D. Blake, Dartmouth; step-grandchildren, Nicholas R. Blake, James A. Dixon Jr., Kyle Douglas Dixon. He was predeceased by sister, Ursula Clarke (Dartmouth). He was a loving husband and stepfather. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Windsor Street. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in St. James Anglican Church, Armdale, Rev. Rod Gillis officiating. Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Sackville. Royal Canadian Legion will hold a service in the funeral home at 7 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.

PRONYK, Thomas Stephen Nicholas
PRONYK, Thomas Stephen Nicholas - 31, 80 Pine Crest Rd., Ont., died in North Bay, Ont. Born in Toronto, he was a son of Nicholas Pronyk and Dorothy Margaret Nowlan. He worked in landscaping and was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Surviving are son, Dylan; sisters, Roberta Douglas, Hawkesbarry, Ont.; Marilyn Pronyk, Pontypool, Ont.; Karen Pronyk, St. John, N.B.; brothers, Darrell, Halifax; Terry, Toronto; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandparents. Mass of Christian burial in Baie Ste. Anne Roman Catholic Church. Funeral was held Saturday July 3, 1999, with burial in the Stella Maris Roman Catholic Cemetery, Escuminac, N.B.

FORHART, Jacqueline A. - 83, Holy Stone on the Sea, Herring Cove, passed away peacefully at home on July 5, 1999. She was born in Adamsville, Que., and was a daughter of the late Isaac Joseph and Marie-Rose (Bouchard) Robert. Surviving are daughters, Lila (Mrs. Maurice Lavallee), Chilliwack, B.C.; Jacquelin Stevens, Halifax; Carmen Beckett, Sardis, B.C.; sons, Faisal Richard Forhart and wife Cheryl, Halifax; Richard Marcel Forhart and wife Margaret, Lower Sackville; brothers, Marcel Robert, Hull, Que.; Aurele Robert, St. Lambert, Que.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Forhart; daughter, Ramona Tibbitts; brother, Louis Robert; sisters, Carmen and Cecile. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 herring Cove Rd., Halifax. A family service will take place at a later date. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

KOFOED, A. Gertrude - 86, Cambridge, Kings Co., died Monday, July 5, 1999, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Black Rock, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Edson and Eliza (Hayes) Bowlby. She taught music in earlier years and was a former member of the Black Rock Baptist Church Choir. She was a member of the Covenanters Church, Grafton, the Baptist Women's Missionary Society and was a Dominion Life Member. She is survived by her husband, Harry Emanuel Kofoed; daughters, Gail Cook (Lloyd), Cambridge; Sharon Browning (John), Winnipeg; son, Gary (Cora), Toronto, Ont.; grandchildren, Paul and Shauna, Loralee and Darren, Kevin and Sean; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Stella, Elva, Vera and Lenora; brother, Lorimer. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday, July 8, and funeral service 2 p.m. Friday, July 9, both in the W. C. Hiltz Funeral Parlour, Kentville, Rev. Judith Saunders officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
