McMULLIN, William Francis - 79, Wilson's Road, Reserve Mines, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 25, 2004, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Francis worked at Sydney Steel for 36 years and held the position of employment officer when he retired. He was a veteran of the Second World War. He was the eldest son of the late William and Caroline McMullin. Francis is survived by his wife, Helen (Martin), Reserve Mines; son, Craig; daughter-in-law, Amanda; grandchildren, Krista, Jordan, all of Lake Echo; sisters, Mary (Doug) Rudderham, Westmount; Peggy Petrie, Mississauga, Ont.; Joey Fougere, Glace Bay; brothers, Thomas (Carmie), Sydney Highway; Joseph (Raylene), Elmer, Reserve Mines; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Betty Farrell. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Francis' memory to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, 5954 Spring Garden Rd., Halifax NS B3H 1Y7 would be appreciated.

GIRDWOOD, John W. - Born in St. Croix, he was a son of the late Rev. William and Pearl (Greer) Girdwood. He received his elementary education in Red Bank, N.B. and his high school education in Canso and River John and was also a graduate of the Nova Scotia Teacher's College and Mount Allison and Columbia Universities. He was a teacher, Principal and Supervisor of schools for 37 years, the majority of which were spent in Westville and Dartmouth. He was a member of Grace United Church, Dartmouth. He was a former member of the Canadian College of Teachers, serving three years as President of the Nova Scotia Headmaster's Association and two terms as President of the Nova Scotia Teachers Credit Union. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Nova Scotia and was a charter member and past President of Dartmouth Golden K Kiwanis Club. He is survived by son, William "Bill"; daughter-in-law, Tanya; grandchildren, Ian, Laurie, Leah, Heather, all of Waterdown, Ont. He was predeceased by wife, Dorothy; sister, Katharine Burrows; brother, Glenford. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 25. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 26, in Grace United Church, 70 King St., Dartmouth (corner of King and Ochterloney Streets), Rev. Stephen Fram officiating. Reception in the church hall following the service. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. NOLTER (Noel), Betty Lou - 51, Gaetz Brook, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2004, in Dartmouth General Hospital Palliative Care Unit, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of Henrietta (Vey) and the late Llewellyn Noel. Betty loved horses, travel, country music and going to her camp. She was an avid softball player, having played with the Magnums for many years. Betty was a very special person who touched the hearts of all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Wayne; daughter, Jennifer; sisters, Jackie (Donnie) Bourque, Gloria Campbell, Bonnie (Berry) Mosher, Vey (Roy) Emberly; brothers, James (Elizabeth) Noel, David (late Wendy) Noel; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Wendy. Special thanks to a wonderful sister-in-law, Leigh Jenner. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today and memorial service 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, both in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. McCLUSKEY, Louis Patrick "Cobey" - 73, Oakwood Terrace, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 24, 2004, in Oakwood Terrace. Born December 19, 1930, in Charlottetown, P.E.I., he was a son of the late Bernard and Elizabeth (Gormley) McCluskey. Cobey retired from Brightwood Golf and Country Club and worked in various beverage rooms in the Dartmouth area for most of his working years. Cobey was Middle Weight Boxing Champ in the 1950s and inducted into the Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame in 1988. He was a long-time member of Pope John XXIII Parish in Cole Harbour and enjoyed traveling, bowling, bingo and sports. Cobey is survived by his wife of 20 years, the former Margaret "Peggy" MacNeil; daughter, Debbie (Hap) Forbes; son, Thomas "Hoss" (Linda); stepdaughters, Christine Costain, Sandra MacDonald, Anne Miller, Marilyn Arseneau, Jaye Maheux, Deborah MacGregor; stepsons, Stephen MacKenzie, Bernard Carpenter, Gerald MacNeil, William "Bill" MacNeil; grandchildren, Krista, Terry, Andrew; many step-grandchildren; sister, Frances LeBlanc; brothers, Tom (Gloria), Bernard "Ace" (Barb), Wilfred (Theresa), Thomas (Lucy); several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jean Boutilier; sisters, Catherine, Mary. FOLKINS, Sgt. Murray Thomas - 42, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 15, 2004, at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born December 28, 1961, in Dartmouth, he was a son of Ronald Folkins, Cole Harbour and the late Jean (Walton) Folkins. Forever missed by his loving wife and son; sisters, Charmaine, Cheryl, Rhonda; brother, Ronald; numerous nieces and nephews. Murray had a zest for life and was dedicated towards his 18 year career with the Department of National Defence. He touched the lives of many and will be remembered with smiles by those fortunate enough to know him. ZHANG, Zhong - 80, Halifax, passed away July 13, 2004, at home. Born in China, he was the son of the late Ying Fung Zhang and Mung Lang Lee. He immigrated to Canada in 1986 with his wife, Hui, and his youngest son, Jing Li. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Hui Chan; daughters, Hing Ping Zhang, Halifax; son, Jing Chen Zhang, China; Jing Bang Zhang, Toronto; eight grandchildren. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where a service will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. FREEMAN, Richard James - 63, Dartmouth, passed away as the result of an accident July 18, 2004, at Stanley Airport, Hants County. Born in Estevan, Sask., he was a son of the late Derrick "Jim" and Josephine (Cox) Freeman. Richard's schooling and university years were in Fredericton where he met Betty-Lou Anderson and they married in 1964. They moved to Western Canada spending most of their time in Winnipeg, where their children were born, returning to Eastern Canada in 1973 and living in Dartmouth. He received his MBA from St. Mary's in 1979-80. He spent the majority of his working career with the Nova Scotia Government retiring from the Nova Scotia Department of Education in 2001. Richard's passion and enthusiasm for life was reflected in everything he did and the values he instilled in his family. His interests were varied and he was accomplished at each. Surviving are his wife, Betty-Lou; son, Jim (Kimberley); daughter, Louise (Michael) Chase, all of Dartmouth; sister, Jo-Anne Hemming, and brother, Brian (Christine), all of Fredericton; grandchildren, Allie, Olivia, Lauren, Matthew; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, July 22, in Pope John XXIII Church, Colby Drive, Dartmouth, Father David Poirier officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall.
Earl Charles Keddy

KEDDY, Earl Charles - Passed away in Dartmouth General Hospital on July 20, 2004, after a long, hard battle with COPD. Born in Imperoyal Village, he was a son of the late Albert and Elsie Keddy. Earl served overseas during the Second World War with the Canadian Army and upon coming home, returned to work at the Imperial Oil Refinery. After retiring from the plant in 1982, he spent most of his time at their home in Upper Stewiacke. Earl enjoyed dancing, gardening, puttering around his garage and many coffee breaks. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Somme Branch 31. Earl is survived by daughters, Marilyn Keddy, Karen (Blaine) Conrod; son, Mark; cherished by grandchildren, Kelly, Terry, and Jeffery. He will also be missed by family pet, Amber. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (June 21, 2004); brothers, Roy and Clarence. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, July 22. Memorial and Legion service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, all in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, Rev. Patricia Malin officiating with reception to follow. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Stewiacke. He dearly loved his wife, children, grandchildren, family and his latest acquisition; his 1973 Chevy Nova. Ross is survived by his wife and best friend of 40 years, Judy (Merlin); son, Scott (Terri); daughter, Carrie (Jason); sisters, Gail (Mike); Lynn (Claude); grandsons, Connor and Nicholas. He was predeceased by his parents, Allison (Shortt) and Rupert William Green. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.
