Mae Leah Wentzell
WENTZELL, Mae Leah - 77, Halifax, passed away July 18, 2002, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born September 14, 1923, in Heart's Delight, Nfld., she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Emma Legge (Heart's Delight).
Mae was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her husband of over 50 years, Irving Edward Wentzell; son, Gregory Edward Wentzell and his wife and her two grandchildren. Mae was a kindly, gentle woman who always worked diligently and generously gave of her time and attention to others. She will never be forgotten for her strength of character and sense of humour.
Mae had four other sisters and four brothers, Hilda Wamboldt of Dartmouth; Arthur Legge of Halifax; Joe Legge of Cornerbrook, Nfld. Mae was predeceased by George and Hubert Legge (both of Heart's Delight); Jane Brenton (of Halifax); Bessie Critch (of Cavendish, Nfld.); Clara Pasha (of Harbour Grace, Nfld.).
Cremation has taken place. In keeping with the family's wishes there will be no visitation. A memorial service for Mae will be held at the family's gravesite in Oakridge Memorial Gardens, 1078 Old Sackville Rd., 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27.

Mary Valencia Murphy
MURPHY, Mary Valencia - 82, Halifax, died July 21, 2002, in the Palliative Care Unit, VG Site, QEII. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late William and Irene (Forhan) O'Brien.
During her youth, Mary was a member of the youth choir of her beloved St. Theresa's Church, Halifax and a lifelong member of The Children of Mary. She was a devoted, loving wife, mother and grandmother whose life was dedicated to her always important family, selflessly putting their needs before her own. In recent months, she fought a courageous battle with cancer. During this time, she was constantly surrounded by her loving family and extended family, and received outstanding care which enabled her to stay in her home until the final hours of her life.
She and her husband, Edgar, enjoyed 63 years of a loving marriage. Mary will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who crossed her path. May she rest in eternal peace.
She is survived by her husband, Edgar B. Murphy; daughters, Shirley McInnis, Joanne Singer (Allan), Debra Clarke (Harold), all of Halifax; sons, Harold B. (Pauline), Robert G. (Ardene), both of Lower Sackville; brothers, John R. O'Brien, Pickering, Ont.; Donald E. O'Brien, Middle Sackville; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by daughter, Marie; brothers, James J., Gerald, Harold; sister, Geraldine; granddaughter, Mary; great-grandson, Michael; great great-grandson, Julian.
The remains are resting in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayer Rd., Halifax, where visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Rev. Joseph Hattie officiating. Burial to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Reception to follow in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville.

Olive Hazel Yarn (Kirby)
YARN (Kirby), Olive Hazel - 84, Halifax, died Thursday evening, July 18, 2002, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. She peacefully slipped away to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, while surrounded by her loving family. Born in Halifax, December 17, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Eliza (Collins) Kirby.
In her early years Mrs. Yarn worked at Clayton's in Windsor and also served her country during the Second World War as a civilian worker in the HMC Dockyard in Halifax. Her greatest pride was to be a homemaker and mother to her children. She was a long-time member of the Full Gospel Church in Halifax.
She was the loving and devoted mother to her five children, sons, Rev. Ralph (Marjorie) Yarn, Verona, Ont.; Ernie (Carol) Yarn, Halifax; daughters, Olive (Frank) Foley, Falmouth; Myrtle (Ray) Beattie, St. Croix; Barbara (Lawrence) Rudolph, Little Liscombe; sisters, Betty Kirby, Evelyn Brace, both of Halifax; Beatrice Brooks, Summerland, B.C.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alphonsus William Yarn; brothers, Lester and William Kirby (Halifax); sister, Ruth MacKinnon (Burlington, Ont.).
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax, with visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Full Gospel Church, 6405 North St., Halifax, Rev. Gary Barrett officiating. Interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Robert "Bob" Patterson
PATTERSON, Robert "Bob" - 74, Dartmouth, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2002, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Dartmouth, he was a son of the late George and Stella (Dove) Patterson.
Bob enlisted as a Dartmouth Volunteer Firefighter at 16. Five years later in 1951, he joined the full-time firefighters and followed the well-trod path of his father, George Patterson, who was Dartmouth's first full-time serving fire chief. Bob worked his way up through every rank in the force and eventually becoming chief in 1980. After a 36 exemplary career in the Dartmouth Fire Department, Bob retired to pursue a life-long passion for fixing, renovating and painting anybody's home who asked. Bob's quiet and gentle way, few words and genuinely friendly smile will be truly missed by his family, friends and past co-firefighters.
He is survived by his wife, the former Lahlia Marie (Nanis) Keddy; daughter, Joanne Ducolon (Barry); son, Stephen; sister, Margaret Pyle; brother, Donald (Beulah); grandson, Adam Bowser.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, July 22, Rev. Carson Baxter officiating. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow the interment in Atlantic Funeral Home Family Reception Centre.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Burn Treatment Society, Dartmouth General Hospital or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
Carl Joseph Boughner
BOUGHNER, Carl Joseph - 67, passed away peacefully July 18, 2002, at home in the loving embrace of his family. Born in 1935 in Brantford, Ont., he moved to grow up in Windsor, Ont.
Carl was a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces, joining at HMCS Hunter, Windsor, Ont. (navy), from 1953 to 1983. After 30 years of dedicated service (and golfing down south), he moved to serve the Royal Canadian Legion at Command Headquarters, dedicating himself to the needs of veterans and servicemen. At the age of 65, he joined the Corps of Commissionaires, where he remained until his illness. He was a long-standing member of Royal Canadian Legion, Centennial Branch 160, serving as president through 1981 and 1982, and continuing to serve most recently as membership chairman. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for outstanding devotion to the Aim and Objects of the Royal Canadian Legion, and awarded life membership for outstanding service.
Waiting to embrace him are his father, Martin Boughner; mother, Mae (Morrison) and brother, Donald.
He is survived by loving sister-in-law, Florence; nieces and nephews, all of Windsor, Ont. Carl will be forever remembered for "Carl's Spot", his charm, his wit and his wonderful smile that he bestowed upon us until the end. Left with precious memories are his wife and best friend, Yvonne (Beaulieu); daughters, Dawn-Marie Turner, Winnipeg; Brenda Kielbratowski, Dartmouth; son, David, Dartmouth; sons-in-law, David Kielbratowski, Dartmouth; Chris Turner, Winnipeg, and future daughter-in-law, Becky Neil, Dartmouth. Memories of Grandpa will forever be with Nicholas, Jesse, Brittany, Matthew and Amanda. Special thanks to palliative care team, Ruby, Joe, Glenna, and family physician, Ken Cameron.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation and prayers will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, with Legion and Knights of Columbus services in the evening, in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Monday in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Forest Hills Parkway, Father Pat Cosgrove officiating. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. A reception to celebrate Carl's life will be held following the interment at Royal Canadian Legion, Centennial Branch 160, 703 Main St., Dartmouth.

Phyllis Loretta Conrad
CONRAD, Phyllis Loretta - 80, New Germany, passed away July 17, 2002, at the home of her daughter in Lower Sackville, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in New Cumberland, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late William Himmelman and Annie (Cross) Himmelman Sarty, and stepdaughter of the late William Sarty.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a past member of the Ladies Aid. In earlier years, she assisted the community doctors delivering babies and later, lovingly cared for many elderly people in her own home. She enjoyed needlework, gardening, sewing, baking and homemaking.
She is survived by her daughters, Marlene (Miro) Posa, St. Catharines, Ont.; Ferne Joudrey, Halifax; Dianne (Basil) Bollivar, Lower Sackville; Donna (Gerald) Rhodenizer, New Germany; sister, Marie Snyder; stepsister, Mona Wheeler; stepbrother, Ronald Sarty; grandchildren, Frana Posa, Kenneth (Heidi) Joudrey, Debbie (Scott) White, Wanda Kelly, Kris Bollivar, Stephanie and Trina Rhodenizer; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kassandra, Maddison and Jacob.
She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil Murray Conrad; brother, Carl Himmelman.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, Lower Sackville. No visitation by request. Memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20, in Trinity Lutheran Church, New Germany, Rev. Rolf Meindl officiating, assisted by Rev. James Slack Jr. Interment will be in the church cemetery followed by a reception in the church hall.
