Michael F. Allison
83, Canning, passed away in the Windsor Elms, where he resided for the last several years on Monday, April 21, 2009. He was born in Cape Breton. Michael was a long-time resident of Canning. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed the out of doors and going to flea markets. He also enjoyed cooking. His family and friends will sadly miss him. He was predeceased by his wife, Angeline (Dykens) Allison. He is survived by his sons, David (Valerie), of Greenwich; and Glendon (Darlene), of Wolfville; and daughter, Doreen (Sonny), of New Minas; grandchildren, Darby, Dylan, and Brady. Visitation for Mr. Allison will be held on today from 7-9 p.m. with a funeral service to be held on Saturday, April 25, at 10 a.m., with Chaplin Jim Norton officiating, both in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 5 Leverett Ave., Kentville, (902) 678-2151. Interment will be in Lakeville Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
Annie May Schurman
55, Kentville, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax, on Friday July 17, 2009. Born in Springhill, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Grace (Quinn) Gilbert. Annie enjoyed life to the fullest whether it be with her extended family and friends at her home or Belle Baie and her most favorite times were spent with her family, children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren around her. Annie returned to school in 1989 where she obtained her degree as an LPN and worked at Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital until she retired in 1991. Annie will sadly be missed by her husband and best friend of 30 years, Alan, Kentville; son, Ron(Vickie Arsenault), Amherst; daughter and best friend, Tammy(Paul) McNutt, New Minas; sisters, Linda (Richard) Wallace, Oxford; Florence (Wayne) Spence, Angela (Mark) McCormick, and brother, Kenneth (Lil) Gilbert Jr., all of Springhill; several special nieces and nephews. Also surviving are grandsons, Bryce, Mason, Chris, Dean; granddaughter, Sarah; great-grandchildren, Xavier, Jaiyah, Lucien and Treysyn. Visitation for Annie will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, July 21 in H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 5 Leverett Ave., Kentville (902-678-2151) where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, Rev. Robert Billings officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date. Family flowers only please. Oscar Norman Rogers
83, Centreville, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2009, in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, Halifax. Born in Canning, he was a son of the late Oscar and Emily (Smith) Rogers. Oscar served with the RCAF and RCN and served in the Second World War. Oscar was a member and at one time was a Worshipable Master of The Masonic Scotia Lodge 28 and enjoyed curling at Glooscap Curling Club, Kentville; golfing at Ken-Wo Golf Club. Oscar was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Habitant Branch No. 73, Canning, and St. Michael and All Angels Church, Canning. He is survived by his wife, Doris (Parker); son, Glenn (Cathy), Montreal, Que.; daughters, Carol-Ann Rogers, Montreal; Janet (Martin) Meehan, Montreal; Jane Rogers, Centreville; sisters, Dorothy Taylor, Kingsport; Helen Kervin, Berwick; Elizabeth (Delbert) Gates, Ontario; sister-in-law, Jean Rogers, New Minas; grandchildren, Ryan and Crystal Coulombe, Jessica and Nolan Rogers, and Carly Lawrence, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Oscar was predeceased by brothers, Clifton, George, Lemuel, and Miller, and sister, Jean Gardner, Ontario. Cremation has taken place and no visitation by request. The funeral service will be held July 31,2009 at 2:00 PM at St. Michael of all Angels Church, Canning with Rev. David Garrett officiating. Interment will follow in Hillaton Cemetery Canning. Lola Rosann Bezanson (Fraser)
80, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2009, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, with family by her side. Born in Halls Harbour, Kings Co., Lola was a daughter of the late Royal and Lola (Kaizer) Fraser. She worked at the W.K.M. Hospital in Berwick, and then joined the staff of the Grand View Manor, Berwick, when it opened in 1970 and where she worked until her retirement in 1991. Lola was a member of the Billtown Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Surviving are daughters, Connie (Steve Boudreau) McCamon, Coldbrook; Judy (Randy) Rockwell, Waterville; grandchildren, Robert (Dana MacMillan) McCamon, Sackville; Aimee McCamon, Edmonton, Alberta; Leigh and Caitlyn Rockwell, both at home, Waterville; great-grandchildren, Owen and Lola; sisters, Leota Daniels, Windsor; Leona (Paul) Boylan, Halls Harbour; sisters-in-law, Mary Fraser, South Berwick; Olive Fraser, Halls Harbour; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her true love and husband, Lewis R. Marion Amanda Gould
90, Harbourville, Kings County, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2009, in the Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown. Born in Harbourville on November 9, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Nancy (Moody) Gould. Marion attended school in Harbourville, and at Mack’s Business College, Kentville. She had worked at various places in the Annapolis Valley. Marion was a life member of Mayflower Chapter # 2, Order of the Eastern Star, Kingston, and had been a member for 58 years. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Marion was predeceased by brothers, Willis, Lealon, Gardner, Barclay, Kenneth and Myles Gould; sisters, Marjorie Sweet; Alta Partridge. In keeping with Marion’s wishes there will be no visitation. All are welcome to an Order of the Eastern Star Service at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 6, in the H.C. Todd Allison Woolaver
32, Rose Valley, P.E.I., passed away suddenly, as the result of a motorcycle accident, on Sunday, July 26, 2009. Born in Kentville, he was the son of Allison Woolaver and Susan Weisner. Todd was employed with Duffy’s Construction and drove truck for over 12 yrs. He was an announcer for Kincora Antique Tractor Pull. Todd loved music and enjoyed playing guitar. He was a loving father and will be sadly missed by his many family and friends. Lovingly remembered by his partner Kandas MacMillian; his children Quiana (12) and Keagan (7) Woolaver; step-mother Martha Moore-Woolaver; brother Charles (Sammy) Woolaver, all of P.E.I. grandparents Frank and Marion Woolaver, Kingsport, NS; and Eugene and Delores Weisner, Centerville, NS; nephew Reid Woolaver; niece Abigail Woolaver; step-sister April (Chad) Marchbank; step-brothers Jeff (Andrea) Moore; Jason (Dawn) Moore; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Ronald Ervin Vidito
91, Waterville, Kings Co., passed away suddenly at home, early in the morning of Sunday, July 26, 2009. Born in Bridgetown, Annapolis County, he was a son of the late Milford and Edith (Walkins) Vidito. Ronald was a veteran of the Second World War, and had served in the front line infantry overseas with the West Nova Scotia Regiment. He had worked as a carpenter at various locations including the C.E. Section at C.F.B. Greenwood, for 27 years until his retirement. Surviving are his wife, Louise G. (Salsman) Vidito, Waterville; son, Ervin (Jeanette) Vidito; daughters, Patricia (Eric) Freeman; Linda (Allison) Maiholz, all of Berwick; Darlene (Gordon Thibodeau) Vidito, New Minas; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Mildred Lowe, Aylesford; Dorothy Pinch, Weston; Marjorie Hugins, Kingston. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a great-grandson, Jackzin E.R. Saltzman-Freeman; brothers, Arthur and Milford Vidito; sisters, Joyce Vidito. Joyce M. Best
82, Waterville, Kings Co., passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, in the Evergreen Home For Special Care, Kentville. Born in Waterville, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Rosa (Lightfoot) Salsman. Joyce was a member of the Trinity United Church, Waterville and was active member of the U.C.W. and the Red Cross Society. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Waterville and District Volunteer Fire Department. Joyce was known as “Grammie Joyce” to the many children she babysat in her home over the years. She loved to sew, do handcrafts, cook and used these talents in many areas of employment. Joyce was a very giving and gentle soul, always involved in her community. In later years, she enjoyed her time spent living at Fundy Villa, Berwick, North Hills Nursing Home, Granville Ferry, and Evergreen Home For Special Care, Kentville. Surviving are her daughter, Brenda (Lawrence) Keddy, Black Rock; son-in-law, Bobby Balsor, Aylesford Mountain; grandchildren, Wanda (David Bowers) Keddy, Cambridge; Shelly (Timmy) Levy, New Ross; Ricky (Karleen) Balsor, Aylesford; great-grandchildren, Cody, Kaylee, Gracie, Jennamae, Andrew, Justin, Dillon; four great-great-grandchildren; brother, Dean (Evelyn) Salsman, Halifax; sister, Opal (Ray) Robins, Niagara Falls, Ont.; brother-in-law, Doug Langille, Lunenburg/Bridgewater; several nieces and nephews, including special niece, Cindy (Paul) Easson, Factorydale. Marion Isabella Prout
75, Auburn, Kings Co. It is with sadness that her family announce the death of Marion on Friday, September 25, 2009, at home. Born in Bear River East, Marion was the daughter of the late John and Jennie (Jefferson) Tupper. She is survived by her husband, Paul Prout, at home; daughter, Lynda (Martin) Rose, Westfield, Ma.; sister, Joyce (Vernon) Hawkes, Hunts Point; brother, Douglas (Gloria) Tupper, Round Hill; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hoyle-Mood, North Kemptville; Hazel Cosman-Mood, Carleton; Pearle Prime, Lake Echo/Pubnico; many nieces and nephews. Marion was a faithful member of the Aylesford Baptist Church, and served God faithfully, ministering through her good deeds and many church organizations. In later years she brought devotions to others through her weekly Radio Program on C.V.C.R. She was educated in Bear River East and attended Bridgewater Vocational College, working for Household Finance Corporation and the Registrar of Deeds for a number of years, before marrying Emery Brown and moving to Aylesford. Many years after his death she married Paul Prout, a member of the same church she attended. She had also been employed for a number of years at the Annapolis Valley Regional Library in Berwick. Marion and Paul enjoyed their many visits with Paul’s sister, Phyllis and Rev. and Mrs. Clyde Lowe. A special thanks from the family to Rev. and Mrs. Clyde Lowe for all their help at such a difficult time. 73, Kentville, Kings Co., formerly of Aylesford, Kings Co., passed away on Monday, September 28, 2009, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Fonthill, Ont., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Helen (Bea) Cooney. Marilyn had worked at Avon Foods Ltd., Berwick, which later became Cobi Foods for 25 years. She was a member of the Aylesford Baptist Church and in more recent years she was active in the Kentville United Baptist Church. Marilyn had volunteered at the Treasure House, Kentville and at the Evergreen Home For Special Care, Kentville. Roy Marchant "Buddy" Misner
75. Somerset, Kings Co., died peacefully at home, with family on Friday, October 2, 2009. Born in Berwick, he was a son of the late Clarence and Maude (Misner) Misner. Buddy was an adherent of the Berwick Baptist Church and prior to it closure, was a member of the Berwick # 53 I.O.O.F. Lodge, where he had held several offices including Secretary and Noble Grand. He had worked at Berwick Bakery and later as a School Bus Driver for Perry Rand Ltd., Cambridge. Buddy was well known as a handy man and “ Mr. Fix It ”. He will also be remembered as acting as Santa Claus for many groups and organization in Berwick and surrounding areas. Surviving are his wife, Laura E. (Hiltz) Misner, Somerset; sons, Garnet, Chipman Brook; Percy (Lynn), Berwick; Robert (Jo-Ann), Auburn; Victor and Tom, both at home; James (Karen) Cole Harbour; John, Garland; our Debbie, Aylesford; grandchildren, Jacson, Ont.; Beth-Ann, Alberta; step-grandson, Kenneth Connors, Chipman Brook; brothers, Wayne (Greta), Chipman Brook; Mervin (Sheila), Kentville; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
