BLUNDON, Stanley

78, New Waterford. It is with great sadness that the family wish to announce the passing of Stan Blundon on Sunday, January 18, 2009, in New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Stephen and Blanche (Head) Blundon. Stan was a 37 year employee of Maritime Tel & Tel and had many stories of time spent with the crews. He was a member of New Waterford Pensioners Club and the Telephone Pioneers. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping and especially time spent in his garden. He was very well respected by his friends, and neighbours and welcomed everyone. He was well-known for telling tall tales and having treats for children in the neighbourhood. Stan is survived by his best friend and wife of 56 years, Marion (Watson); daughter, Karen (Philip) Blondeau, Cole Harbour; son, Darren (Anne Louise), Port Hawkesbury; cherished grandchildren, Heather Blundon, Sam and Erin Blondeau; sisters, Viola, Bernice, Edith; brothers, Fred, Alonzo, Walter, David and Frank, who all live in the Kitchener, Ont., region. Besides his parents, Stan was also predeceased by his brother, John Blundon. Visitation for Stan will be held Tuesday, January 20, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford (902-862-7500), and a celebration of Stan's life will take place on Wednesday, January 21, at 11 a.m. in All Saints Anglican Church, with Rev. Vernon Reid and Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall, all are invited. Burial will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Cape Breton Palliative Care Society.

D'ENTREMONT, Dorothee Evangeline

91, Halifax, passed away January 18, 2009, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born in West Pubnico, she was a daughter of the late Henri Siegfroi and Therese Adele (d'Eon) LeBlanc. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, John, in 2008. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a faithful member of St. Agnes Church. In her early years, she was a bookkeeper for her father and later for the family business J and E Apts. Ltd. She was an avid gardener. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, and knitting. She is survived by sons, Donald, Halifax; Michael (Beverley), Lower Sackville; Eric (Sherri), Halifax; daughters, Virginia (Gary) Conrad, Dartmouth; Francine Dobson (David), Eastern Passage; grandchildren, Kevin, Ryan (Krista) D'Entremont, Michelle (Tim) MacDonald, Matthew (Cindy) D'Entremont, Jonathan, Sarah, Nikolaus Conrad, Marc (Maia) Dobson, Matthew Rose, Brian, Kimberly Dobson, Erika D'Entremont; great-grandchildren, Danica, Craig MacDonald, Joshua, Elianna D'Entremont, Cavin, Cami Dobson. She was predeceased by brothers, Charlie, Henry; sisters, Marie, Marguerite, Therese, Colette; and son-in-law, David Dobson. The family would like to thank the staff of 8.1, 8.2, and the Palliative Care Unit of QEII Health Sciences Centre for the care and compassion shown to our mother and family. Visitation will be held in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax, on Wednesday, January 21, from 2-4, and 6-8 p.m. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, January 22, in St. Agnes Church, Halifax, Father John Williams officiating. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.

WELLINGS, Anthony John Edward "Tony"

69, of Brookfield. It is with great sadness that the family of Anthony "Tony" John Edward Wellings announce his passing on January 17, 2009 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in England, he was a son of the late John and Hilda Wellings. He worked as a plumber for all of his working life, emigrating to Canada in 1969 with his wife and daughter. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Air Force Club, where he always enjoyed playing darts. Tony is survived by his wife, Carole (Carpenter); daughter, Tracey (Brian) Crowell, Beaverbrook; son, Mark (Debbie Saulnier) Wellings, Petawawa, Ont.; grandchildren, Mitchell, Makayla, and Raine; sister, Marion Bodger, England; brother, Peter Wellings, England; one niece and one nephew; and also special friends Cynthia and John Matthews. There will be no visitation by request. A Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 26 Tribute Service will be held on Wednesday, January 21 at 7 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to a charity of choice.

PARSONS, Nicole L. "Nikki"

25, New Victoria, died January 17, 2009. Born in Sydney, Nikki was the precious daughter of Robert and Pauline Parsons, Sydney. Surviving are siblings, Robert, Melissa; sons, Curtis, Dalton, at home; their father, Jason MacInnis, North Sydney; grandmother, Kay Parsons, Toronto; companion, Chris Drover. She was predeceased by maternal grandparents, Mary Lucy (Conn) Burt MacDonald, and Roy MacDonald; paternal grandfather, Bob Parsons. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, Sydney, with KOC service 7:30 p.m. Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Church.

EHLER, Eileen Isabel

68, Port Hawkesbury, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston, after a brief courageous battle with cancer. Born in Canso, she was a daughter of the late Victor Munroe and Jean Hawes (Gordon Hollett). Eileen is survived by her loving daughters, Sharon, Toronto, Ont., and Angela (Bruce) Fitzner; precious granddaughters, Julia and Stephanie Fitzner, all of Dartmouth; brother, Gord (Doreen), Georgetown, Ont.; sisters, Patricia (Bob) Esplen, Georgetown, Ont.; Sylvia (Jack) Duffy, Dartmouth. She was predeceased by her husband Angus. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Port Hawkesbury, with Rev. Susan Best officiating. Burial at a later date. Family flowers only. Memorial donations in memory of Eileen may be made to a charity of choice. Special thanks to the staff of Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society and her many close friends who have been very supportive.

CURWIN, Private John Michael Roy

26, of Mount Uniacke, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2008, in Kandahar, Afghanistan, while serving his country. Born in Halifax, he was a son of Michael and Danita (MacDonald) Curwin of Mount Uniacke. Private Curwin was a member of 2nd Battalion the Royal Canadian Regiment for two years, and was a very proud "Royal". John grew up playing hockey for East Hants, and was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan. He enjoyed fishing, Friday night poker games with his friends and the early Saturday morning golf games that followed. He always lived life to the fullest. John is survived by his wife of six and a half years, Laura (Bruneau) Curwin, and children, Makayla, Michael and Jenna; brother, Josh (Terri); paternal grandparents, William and Corrine Curwin. He was predeceased by maternal grandmother, Georgine Dent and by niece, Autumn Rose Curwin. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr. A funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Knox United Church, 567 Sackville Dr. Burial to follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Irving Street, Lower Sackville. Donations in John's memory may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association.

LEADBEATER, Linda Sue

5o, Greenfield, formerly of Westville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 25, 2008, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of Joyce (MacDonald) Gordon, Westville, and the late Arnold Gordon. Linda grew up in Westville and after her marriage, with her husband in the R.C.M.P., resided in numerous areas of British Columbia for 25 years where she made many cherished friends. They returned to Nova Scotia seven years ago to take residence in Colchester County. A loving and caring person, her family were all very special to her including the family pet, Saddle. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Shane; daughter, Tara (Mike Parker), Greenfield; son, Aaron (Alana Andrews), Stewiacke. She is also survived by her mother, Joyce; sisters, Rebecca Lightfoot (Laurie), Canning; Cindy (Hughie) MacLeod, Middleton; Esther (Rocco) DiFabio, North Side East Bay; Bonnie (Wayne) Curtis, Edmonton; brothers, Arnold "Ginner" (Brenda) Gordon, Truro; Kenny (Suzanne) Gordon, Westville; Donnie (Kim), Gordon, Westville. Also survived by father and mother-in-law, Stewart and Aldona Leadbeater, Westville; sisters-in-law, Karen (Russell) MacLean, Inverness; and Ella (Forbes) LeDrew, Westville. Linda was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Cameron and Esther Gordon and maternal grandparents, Harry and Ethel Haslam. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Her funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Westville, with Rev. Norman Marple officiating. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery, Westville. CONRAD, Nina Mae

93, North Queens Nursing Home, Caledonia, passed away peacefully in North Queens Nursing Home, Wednesday, December 24, 2008. Born in Harmony Mills, Queens Co., she was a daughter of the late Bradford and Winnifred (Cushing) Freeman. Nina was a former school teacher in Lunenburg and Queens Counties. She is survived by her daughters, Jean Fancy of Caledonia, and Ruth (Alan) MacKinnon of Whycocomagh, Cape Breton; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister, Berna Douglas of Evergreen Home For Special Care, Kentville. She was predeceased by her husband, Lorenzo Alexanderm her infant son, Ivan Maynard; sister, Elizabeth, and brother, Jack. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers' Funeral Home, Liverpool. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. No flowers by request, donations may be made to IWK Health Centre Foundation, the Sharing Way or to any charity.

FERGUSON, Catherine "Kay",

64, Spryfield, passed away on December 26, 2008, at her residence. Born in Halifax, she was a loving daughter of the late Gerald and Mabel (Keel) Ferguson. Kay had been employed with the HRM for 27 years, where she made many good friends. Kay enjoyed children, especially her nieces and nephews, who meant the world to her. She had been involved with Brownies and Sunday school. She enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, reading and volunteering. Kay was very close to her family and never forgot an important date. She enjoyed spending summers on the deck at the family cottage. She was always concerned about others and was always more than willing to babysit. Kay loved the freedom of driving her car, but most of all, Kay will be forever remembered for her "famous sugar cookies". She will be lovingly remembered as our older sister and never forgotten. Kay is survived by her sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Cameron (Barry Forbes), Halifax; June Atkinson (Gary), Dartmouth; and Jo-Ann Ferguson, Kentville; brother, Robert "Bob" Ferguson (Heather), Herring Cove; four nieces; four nephews; three great-nieces and one great-nephew, as well as many precious friends. Cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd., Halifax, NS (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 30 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Patricia Malin as clergy. A private family interment will take place in St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in memory of Kay to any children's charity of the donor's choice.
