Kay Norman
Kay Norman, age 73, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family during the early morning hours of April 12, 2003 after a very brief illness. The only daughter of the late Arthur and Gladys Parsons, she was born November 12, 1929 at Walton, Hants County, and grew up in Windsor.
Kay graduated from Edgehill School for Girls and the Halifax Infirmary School of Nursing. She practiced her profession at the Children’s Hospital in Halifax, the Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital in Kentville, and hospitals at Sackville, New Brunswick; Cochrane, Ontario; Liverpool, Nova Scotia; and for a short time at Dykeland Lodge in Windsor. Kay led a very active community-minded life having served on the Windsor Recreation Commission, the Windsor Housing Commission, the Hants West District School Board, the Hants Community Hospital Board, the Edgehill Guild and the Kings-Edgehill Board of Governors. She was a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Victoria General Hospital and a past president of the Hants West Progressive Conservative Association. She was also a member of the Windsor Gyrette Club, and a Rotaryann of the Windsor Rotary Club. Strong in her faith she was a member of Christ Church Anglican in Windsor. While living in North Sydney she was active in the local R.C.M.P. Stetsonettes Club.
She was also an auxiliary member of the R.C.M.P. Veterans Association in Halifax.
Kay lived and loved life to the fullest having travelled to many places in the world with husband and friends. Her kindness, generosity and ready wit will long be remembered by those who knew her best. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by brother Bill. She is survived by her husband of over 46 years, Lloyd, daughter Nancy Morash (Greg), son Jeff (Trina), grandsons Kyle and Tristan, aunts Kathleen Jardine, Fredericton, and Jessie Parsons, Windsor.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 14th in Lohnes~Beazley Funeral Home, 419 Albert Street, Windsor, with memorial service held at Christ Church Anglican, 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, followed by a reception in the Church Hall. Family committal service at Maplewood Cemetery. Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Dorothy Elizabeth Spicer
Dorothy Elizabeth Spicer, 86, of Hantsport, passed away Friday, March 7, 2003, at home. Born in Auburn, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Mary Josephine (Lawrence) Lane. Dorothy was a loving and dedicated wife and mother, whose generosity and compassion touched all those who came in contact with her. As a young girl, she worked in a local candy factory, and then began working inside the home to raise a family. Always one to put the needs of others ahead of herself, she loved company, especially when it included the opportunity to make tea or feed someone. She was an avid craftsperson who could work magic with scissors and paper, or needles and yarn. She took particular joy in watching the river and the gypsum boats. Even though she suffered from a variety of serious illnesses over the past 7 years, not once did she complain about her lot. She loved story telling and poetry, and kept a razor-sharp sense of humour to the very end. Dorothy passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family who will cherish her memory forever.
She is survived by her sister Florence Sturk, Hamilton, Ont.; daughters, Celia (Doug Crowell) and Sylvia (the late Maynard Crowell), Hortonville; and by sons Clarence (Verna), Calgary; Keith (Joan), and Gary (Brigitte), Hantsport; as well as 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by husband Earle Spicer, sisters Isabel Lane and Laura Marsters, and brother Walter Lane.
Visitation will be held today from 6-9pm with funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, all in Lohnes~Beazley Funeral Home, Windsor. Rev. Garnet Parker officiating, interment in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Joseph Henry Walker
Joseph Henry Walker, 82, of Martock, Hants Co., passed away Monday, April 14, 2003, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in New Ross, he was a son of the late Bernard and Clara (Levy) Walker.
Joe was a self-employed truck driver for 37 years. He was well-known for his work with oxen, travelling to exhibitions all over Nova Scotia and parts of New Brunswick as well as to the International Ox Pulls in Cumberland, Maine. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Jean Smith; son, Barney (Christine), Martock; daughter, Donna Spence (Ralph), Ellershouse; Darlene Jamieson,
Centreville; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Kathleen Power, Aldersville; Anna Cormier, Ontario; and Gladys McKinnon, Windsor. He was predeceased by a sister, Olive Lloyd, Kings Co.; brothers, Sherman, Arch, Carrol, and Clem, of New Ross, and Melvin, Bridgetown. At Joe’s request, there will be no visitation. A public graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2003 in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Cemetery on Mill Road, New Ross, Father Morris officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Mabel Melinda Crowell
Crowell, Mabel Melinda "Lindy" - 90, formerly of Hantsport, Hants Co., passed away peacefully June 17, 2003, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor.
Born in Waterville (Vaughan), Hants Co., she was the daughter of the late Seymour and Nina (Melvin) Bezanson. In her early years, she loved working at Yeaton’s Candy Factory, Hantsport, and later with her husband, Reg, and owned and operated "Crowell’s Grocery" for over 35 years in Hantsport. After retirement they joined the camping clubs "Sam Slick" and "Autumn Leaves". She also enjoyed selling at flea markets. She was an adherent of the Hantsport Baptist Church. Lindy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by a son, Laurie (Audrey) Crowell, Bishopville; daughters, Elva (Mrs. David Peach), Falmouth; Ella (Mrs. Douglas Young), Hantsport; Mary, (Mrs. David Robarts), Hantsport; sisters, Eva Patterson, Kentville, and Hazel Beckwith, Hantsport; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Frank Reginald; sisters, Margaret and twin sister, Emma; a great-grandson, Logan Blue.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 19 from 7-9pm in Lohnes~Beazley Family Funeral Home, 419 Albert Street, Windsor. Funeral service will be held 2:30pm Friday, June 20 in Hantsport Baptist Church, Rev. David Shaw officiating. Interment in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport. Gerald R. Draper
Gerald R. Draper - 83, of Mount Denson, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2003 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Camberwell, England, he was the son of the late George and Naomi (Bowes) Draper.
Gerald was a skilled cabinet maker. He also was an avid gardener, specializing in roses, and was named Gardener of the Year in 1979 by the Nova Scotia Association of Gardeners, and a member of the World Federation of Rose Societies. He was in the military service with RCAF from 1942 - 1946 (during WWII). After being in the service he was a working partner with Ralph Connors Company Ltd. in Halifax. Since retiring he and his wife, Ruth have resided in Mount Denson. Surviving are his wife, Ruth; daughters, Janet Draper, Enfield; Merilyn Teeft (Douglas), Porters Lake; Nancy Hynes (David), Sackville, N.S.; sons, David (Lillian), Hubley; and John (Heather), Halifax; grandchildren, Naomi, Nathan, Roblyn, Rebecca, Alexander, Christopher, Mark, Kevin, Katherine, Emily, Jonathan, Jordan, and Bethany; sisters, June, and Joyce; brothers, William, and Bill. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Peter.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held 7:00pm Friday, May 23, 2003 in Lohnes-Beazley Memorial Chapel, 419 Albert St., Windsor., Rev. Charles Milbury officiating, followed by a reception. Interment in Mount Denson Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Hants Community Hospital. Lloyd Edwin Greeno
Greeno, Lloyd Edwin - 86, of Falmouth, Hants Co., passed away Monday, June 9, at Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Avonport, he was a son of the late Gilbert E. and Mary Jane (Guptill) Greeno.
Lloyd served in the Army (1942-1945) during World War II with the Royal Rifles where he trained troops in British Columbia. After the war he worked for Maritime Marshlands, then as a carpenter for Swinamer & Eldridge and also with Boyd Construction. Lloyd enjoyed hunting and fishing and took great pride in his home.
He cherished his family, especially his grandchildren, Scott, Jonathan, Erin, Catherine, and great-grandchildren, Leslie, and Alyson. Lloyd is also survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Minnie Lavinia Peach; sons, Lloyd (Carolyn), Falmouth; and Jim (Heather), Windsor; sisters, Greta Buckler, Fairview; Glenda (Wilbur) Fielding, Newport Station; brothers, Alton "Jack" (Evelyn), Mount Denson; Gordon, Coldbrook; and Cyril, Windsor, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters, Jean Hiltz, Stella Benedict, and Erma; a brother, Kenneth.
Visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9pm today. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2003 all in Lohnes-Beazley Family Funeral Home, 419 Albert St., Windsor, Rev. Kenneth James (‘Poppie’) Canavan
Canavan, Kenneth James (‘Poppie’) - age 62, of Greenhill, Hants County, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2003, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, after a short, courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Greenhill, he was the eldest son of James and Myrtle (Lantz) Canavan. Ken attended Windsor Academy and graduated from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Truro. He was president of the family farm, Maple Lane Farms, and remained actively involved right up until his illness. Ken was affectionately known as ‘Poppie’ to family, friends and customers. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture and had been involved in Pork Nova Scotia and the Canadian Pork Council. Ken was a retired deacon and member of the South Rawdon United Baptist Church. He was an avid organic gardener and cross-stitcher.
Ken will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, constant drive, loving and gentle nature, and outgoing personality. He had an immense love for family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, the former Claire Caldwell; daughter Lori, son-in-law Derrick Reid, Greenhill; son Tim, daughter-in-law Nikki, Winnipeg; four special grandchildren, Jamie, Paul, Christine and Erin; parents, James and Myrtle Canavan, Greenhill; brothers, Charles (Joyce), Lakelands; Robert (Karen), Greenhill; Lloyd (Leola), Greenhill; Mark (Malaya), Iqualuit; sisters, Joyce Leopold (Merlin), Greenhill; Dianne Mitchell (Grant), Dartmouth; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and some very special friends.
In keeping with Ken’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Friday, August 8, in Lohnes~Beazley Family Funeral Home, 419 Albert Street, Windsor. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 9, in South Rawdon United Baptist Church, Rev. Clarence Bungay and Rev. Nancy Draper officiating, interment in the Church cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Hants Community Hospital.
Rhoda Dorothy Lynch
Lynch, Rhoda Dorothy - 93, of Windsor Elms, passed away peacefully and gracefully in God’s hands Saturday, August 2, 2003 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre.
Born in New Germany, she was a daughter of the late John and Sophia (Keddy) Ernst.
She is survived by her children, son, Cyril (Myrtle) Lynch, Windsor; Pauline (Donald) Smith, New Minas; Elva (Donald) Lynch, Windsor; and Judy (Doug) McCullum, Cole Harbour. She was a beloved grandmother to Paulette Fischer, Wayne, Gary, Debra, Michael, Brian, and Trevor Lynch; Donna Dean, Dawn Lee Swinamer, and Jonathan McCullum; great-grandmother to 17 and great-great grandmother to four. She was a caring aunt to a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph; son, Donald; sons, Gerald and Wayne, in infancy; sisters, Alma DeMont and Pearl Buckman; brothers, Clarence Ernst, Basil Chandler, and Edward, in infancy. She devoted her life to her family and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Cremation has taken place. Malinda "Linnie" Frances Lynch,
Lynch, Malinda "Linnie" Frances - 93, of Newport Corner, passed away Monday, July 14, 2003, at home. Born in Ellershouse, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Georgina (Caldwell) MacKenzie.
She was a member of the Ardoise Union (United) Church. She is survived by her daughter, Doris and son-in-law Stewart McLearn, Newport Corner; daughter-in-law Jacquiline, Fort McMurray, Alberta; seven grandsons; five granddaughters; 28 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Moody Sr.; son, Moody Jr.; grandson, Calvin; brother Bill; sisters, Mary, Emma, Bertha, Lydia, and Ethel; stepfather Albert Warren.
Memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2003 at 2:00pm in Lohnes~Beazley Memorial Chapel, 419 Albert Street, Windsor, Rev. Earle Leslie officiating. Laurie Ellsworth CAMERON
CAMERON, Laurie Ellsworth - 87, Mount Denson, Hants Co., passed away peacefully Thursday, November 15, 2007, in Windsor Elms Senior Citizens Home. Born in Mount Denson, he was a son of the late Ellsworth and Alice (Wile) Cameron.
Laurie was a lifelong resident of Mount Denson and a veteran of the Second World War. He was a prominent business man who owned and operated farm markets in Milford, Stewiacke and on the Ben Jackson Road (near Hantsport). He was a hard worker and his kindness and humour will be remembered and missed by all who knew him.
Laurie was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He is survived by his only son, Bruce and wife Nancy; grandchildren, Vicki and great-grandson Shay, Shelley (Jeff), and John (Lia). Besides his parents he was predeceased by loving wife, Mary (February 2007); brothers, Henry and George Wile; sisters, Emily, Ethel, Agnus, Susie, and Alice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, November 17. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, November 18, in Lohnes Funeral Service Chapel, Pastor Craig Faulkner officiating. Interment will be held in Centre Falmouth Cemetery.
