Blanche M Forsythe
1920-2010

Blanche Forsythe, age 89, of Port Greville, passed away peacefully at the South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro on Saturday, October 30, 2010, with family and dear friends at her side.

Born in Port Greville, NS, she was a daughter of the late Abram and Clodine (Cole) McCully.

She is survived by her sister, Marion Akerley, Halifax; sister-in-law, Betty McCully, Moncton; brother-in-law, Robert Forsythe, Havelock, NB, sister-in-law Pauline Forsythe, Toronto, ON and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald, sisters, Leota, Flossie, Stella, Reta, Margaret, Eva, Evelyn and brothers, Herbert and Leslie.

Blanche's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst (667-8777) where funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 2 pm. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 12 to 2 pm. Burial in the Amherst Cemetery. Donations to the South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice gratefully appreciated.

Doris Collins
1927-2010

The death of Doris Collins, age 83, of Amherst occurred on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.

Born in Chignecto, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Alma (Hunter) McLellan.

Doris will be sadly missed by daughters, Patricia (Wayne Landry), Shelley (Gary Tingley), a son Peter (Debbie); grandchildren, Kim, Michael and Amanda; step-grandchildren, Michelle and Chris; great grandchildren, Kayla, Jordan and Austin; one step- great grandchild, Noah; and a sister Arlene (Larry) Doucet. She was predeceased by a brother, Darrell.

Doris's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst. There will be no visitation or memorial service. Burial in the Maccan Cemetery in the spring.

Florence M. Welch
1927-2010

WELCH, Florence M., age 83 of Amherst, passed away at the Moncton City Hospital on Saturday, November 20,2010. Born in Bass River, she was a daughter of the late Ulysses and Mabel (Pugsley) Morrison.

She was a loving mother who placed her family first.

Florence will be sadly missed by her 5 children, Gloria Sauveur (Arthur), Amherst, Brenda Moore (Ronald), River Philip, Daniel Sauveur (Lisa), Amherst, Peggy Johnson (Douglas), Ontario and Teena Bowser (Peter), Amherst; 16 grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Mark, Andrew, Corinne, Nicholas, Sarah, Walter, Sarah, Daniel, Reanne, Renee, Matthew, Amy, Laura and Adam; 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter; sisters, Elizabeth Mitchell and Dorothy Morrison, dear friend Shirley Sauveur and her ex-husband, Bernard Sauveur, a niece and 3 nephews.

She was predeceased by her first husband, George Welch in 1958, an infant daughter, great grandson Kyle; brothers, Cecil, Earl and Thomas and sister Eva.

Florence's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst from where a funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 11 am. Friends and family are invited to a time of visitation Monday from 7 to 9 pm at the funeral home. Burial in the Hillside Cemetery, Springhill. Donations to the Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice gratefully accepted.

Constant (Con) Desplanque
1917-2010

Constant (Con) Desplanque, 93 years of age passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Born in The Hague, The Netherlands on October 6, 1917.

He served in the Netherlands Armed forces before 1940. After the war he served another three years & then immigrated to Canada and landed at Pier 21 in 1950. He worked for the Federal Government for many years until he retired in 1982.

Constant is survived by his wife of 56 years Elly Deventer; son, Eric (Wendy) of Calgary, AB; daughter, Joyce Desplanque of Darmouth, NS, son, Kelvin (Dawn) of Ottawa, ON; sister, Victorine Desplanque of The Netherlands; grandchildren: Kristine, Alex, Kathryn, Alexandra.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by an infant son, Marnix; sister, Julia Desplanque.

Constant's remains have been cremated under the direction of Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 667-8777 (70 Church St. Amherst, NS. No service by request. The family will receive visitors at the Furlong Jones Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 from 2-4 p.m.

No flowers by request. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Waramps of Nova Scotia.

Nathaniel "Nath" Cooper
1940-2010

Nathaniel J. Cooper of Amherst, NS, formerly of St. John's Newfoundland ,passed away on Monday, November 22, 2010. Born in St. Anthony, NL he was a son of the late Rev. Joseph & Annie (Heath) Cooper.

He was active in the East Coast offshore oil & gas sector for many years as Vice- President of A. Harvey & Co. Ltd. (Harvey Offshore). Prior to that he was a managing director of Pinto & Hann. He was the Honorary Vice Consul of Spain in Newfoundland. He served two terms as President of Newfoundland Oceans Industries Assoc. (NOIA). He was formerly a member of St.John's Rotary Club, St. John's Chamber of Commerce, VOWR, Saint Mary's Anglican Church and various community groups.

He was active in curling throughout his life. His love of the sea was cultivated early in Main Brook, augmented by his work in the offshore, and enhanced in retirement at the cottage and at the helm of "Spellbound".

He is survived by his current wife, Linda (Hunter), his children, Lori & Mark (Diane) and their mother, Brenda; stepson, Andrew Clarke (Jennifer); brother, Rex (Lillian); grandchildren, Kaleb, Emma, Ava, James & Ben; nephew, Duke Cooper (Denise) & niece Kelly Cooper-Beech (Jamie).

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Katherine.

Nathaniel's remains have been cremated under the direction of Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 667-8777 (70 Church St. Amherst, NS). The family will receive visitors at the Furlong-Jones Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Anglican Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in St. John's NL on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 2 p.m.

Family flowers only. Donations in Nath's memory may be made to the ALS Society, Parkinson Society of Canada or charity of choice.

Alice Audrey "Sandy" Grant

Alice Audrey "Sandy" Grant, age 87, of Amherst passed away peacefully at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center on Tuesday, November 23, 2010.

Born in Guelph, Ontario, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Audrey (Black) McEwen.

After Alice completed secretarial school she moved to Montreal where she worked for Stelco Steel Co. She met and married Donald Grant and they moved to Ile Bigras, Que. where they started their family. In 1975 they moved to Dartmouth where she resided until she moved to Amherst in 2001.

Alice had an adventurous spirit and bicycled throughout Europe. Alice enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. Always an avid swimmer "Nanu" especially loved spending time with her grandchildren at the beaches on the Northumberland Strait.

Alice is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth (Graham) Conrad, Amherst, Margaret (Mike) Jackson, Alex (Tony) Grant, Dartmouth; Son Graeme (Faye) Grant, Vancouver, six grandchildren, Christine, Laura, Allanah, Maddie, Veronica and Joseph.

Alice was predeceased by her husband Donald Grant and son Donal Grant.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst, NS, (667-8777). As per Alice's request there will be no visitation or service at the funeral home. The family will have a private service at a later date. Donations in memory of Alice may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the VON.

Margaret F. MacDonald
1924-2010

Margaret F. MacDonald, 86 years of age, of Gables Lodge, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2010 at the Lodge. Born in Amherst she was a daughter of the late Angus & Eva (Foley) MacDonald.

She trained to be a nurse at Camp Hill in Halifax then worked at the Highland View in Amherst until her retirement. She was a member of the Holy Family Parish. She was involved with various charities throughout the area.

She will be missed by her nieces and nephews.

Margaret's remains have been cremated under the direction of Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St. Amherst, N.S. (667-8777). A graveside service will be held at St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 12 p.m

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.

Robert "Bob" Scopie
1932-2010

The death of Robert "Bob" Scopie, age 78, of Sackville and formerly of Amherst, occurred suddenly at the Dr. George L. DuMont Hospital, Moncton on Sunday, December 5, 2010.

Born in River Hebert, he was a son of Isabel (Poplar) Scopie and the late Michael Scopie

Bob served in the Canadian Army and is a member of the Amherst Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed playing his guitar and harmonica and was a good dancer.

Bob will be sadly missed by his daughters, Jean Scopie and Pamela (Steve MacLeod) Brown, both of River Hebert; a son, Robert Jr, Etobicoke, ON; 6 grandchildren, Dane, Zachery, Jordon, Thomas, Matthew and Kayla; brothers, Dean (Lorna) and David (Monica); sisters, Anne-Marie (Jim) Grey and June (Stan Williams) ; ex-wives Elizabeth (Hyden) Scopie and Vina McGraw, many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Michael, and brothers, Donald and John.

Bob's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst (667-8777) from where a time of visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at 11 am, Rev. Clarence Clarke officiating. Burial in the Hillside Cemetery, River Hebert.
