David E. Bryan
1958-2011

The death of David Bryan, age 53, of Dartmouth and formerly of Springhill occurred at the Dartmouth General Hospital on Friday, August 19, 2011.

Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Hector and Zylpha (Wheaton) Bryan.

David will be sadly missed by brothers, Joseph (Joanne) and Reginald; sisters, Linda, Shirley (Donald) Martin and Beverley (Alex) Sharpe; nieces and nephews.

David's remains have been cremated under the care and direction of the A H Brown Funeral Home, Springhill. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 11 am . Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at the funeral home from 10 until the time of the service. Burial in the North Street Cemetery.

Terrance (Terry) Davies
1969-2011

The death of Terry Davies, age 42, of Springhill occured suddenly on Friday, August 19,2011.

Terry's favorite times were spent at his camp and with friends. He took great pride in maintaining the Leamington Cemetery.

Terry will be sadly missed by his mother Louise Davies , his uncle Harvey(Catherine) Davies and many friends.

Terry's remains have been cremated under the direction of the A.H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill. A private burial will take place in the West Brook Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Leamington Cemetery gratefully accepted.

Isabell Jane Cole

Our Angel, Isabell Jane Cole, was taken to heaven on Saturday, August 20, 2011. She was born at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center, Upper Nappan NS.

Isabell will be sadly missed by her parents, Aileen Sullivan and Gregory Cole, two sisters, Stephanie and Elizabeth Cole; grandparents, Judy Sullivan, Glenna-Mae Cole and Michael Cole; as well as several aunts and uncles.

Arrangements have been entrusted to AH Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane St, Springhill (597-2361). A private family service and burial will be held. Those wishing to make a donation may do so to a charity of choice.

Doris Smith
1915-2011

Doris E. Smith, in her 96th year went to be with the Lord, her husband Hubert and their daughter Louise Glen (Smith) on Monday, August 22, 2011. Doris, formerly of Sackville, NB was residing at the Hillsdale Estates in Oshawa, ON on Monday, August 22, 2011.

Born in Fairfield, NB, she was a daughter of the late Gartnor and Ivah (Card) Mitton.

Doris was a 60 year Member of the Ruby Rebekah Lodge, Past Noble Grand and a member of the Past Noble Grand's Club. She was a former member of the Pythian Sisters, and a member of Main Street Baptist Church.

She will be dearly missed by her son Austin (Jean), Courtice, ON; 6 grandchildren, Danny Glenn, Kelly Grant, Michael Glen, Lorianne (Steve) Phinney, Terry (Mary) Smith, Heather Youngson; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law Catherine Smith; brother-in-law Harley Estabrooks and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Hubert and daughter Louise Glen, she was predeceased by brothers Earl and Ellsworth; sisters Francis Rumley, Jean Estabrooks and Marion Tingley.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (506-364-1300) where visiting hours will take place on Friday, August 26, 2011 from 1 pm until the time of the funeral at 2 pm. The funeral will be held on Friday at 2 pm from the funeral home, Pastor Andrew Swanson officiating. Burial will follow in the Sackville Cemetery.

Those wishing to make a donation in Doris' memory may do so to the charity of your choice.

Vincent Stewart
1926-2011

Vincent Elliott Stewart, 85, of Amherst, NS occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Tuesday, August 23, 2011.

Born in Amherst, a son of the late Harold and Ella (Anderson) Stewart of Chapman Settlement, Cumb. Co.

Survived by half brother, Robert Stewart of Oxford, NS; step brother, Roger Weeks, Oxford, NS and two cousins, Betty Anderson, Halifax and Joyce Bowles, Toronto and special friends Emeline Adams and family, Truro, NS and several nieces and nephews and in-laws.

Predeceased by his wife Florence (Smith) an infant son and a cousin, Eugene Anderson.

A member of Trinity-St. Stephens United Church, Amherst, also of the Men's Club of that church. A fifty year member of Chignecto Lodge #11, Knights of Pythias, also a fifty year member of Masonic Lodge Acacia # 8. Married in 1946 to Florence Smith, daughter of Wilson and Edna Smith of Shinimicas. Lived on the family farm, Chapman Settlement until 1954, then moved to Haliburton St. Amherst. He worked at D.A Casey Ltd. and Tantramar Motors Ltd. until starting Stewarts Service Centre in 1958 until 1982. He was very active in the Retail Gasoline Assoc. for many years being president in 1974-75. With wife and friends he enjoyed snowmobiling and Old Time dances also going to Bluegrass Festivals in the Maritimes and Maine. He traveled across Canada in 1965 and had several trips to Florida. In 1978 he and Flo started having music festivals at the camp in Shinimicas consisting of bluegrass, country and old time music. This grew from year to year with all music coming from the guests and ended before Flo's passing in Sept 2000.

Vince was the most caring and generous man you could meet. He loved to play cards, especially when "beating the women". Vince was also noted for his jams, pickles and mincemeat. Also for the great dinners he made and served. Vincent will be greatly missed by all.

Vince's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst where visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held at the Trinity St. Stephen's United Church, Amherst on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 2 pm, Rev. Susan Estabrooks officiating. Burial in the family plot in the Shinimicas Cemetery. Donations to the Linda Burke Memorial Foundation, Shinimicas Cemetery or a charity of the donor's choice.

Elaine Jean Gray
1939-2011

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elaine Gray on August 23rd at the Intensive Care Unit of the Moncton Hospital with her loving family at her side.

Born in Renfrew, Ontario, Elaine is the daughter of the Late William and Evelyn Connery.

She will be dearly missed by her beloved and devoted husband Bob Gray. She is the loving mother of Catherine Jane (Derrick Acton) of Sackville and Kristi Lynn (Neal Welling) of Shediac Cape; cherished grandmother of Lindsay and Laine Acton and proud aunt to Megan, Jon, Lynn, Jay, Paul and Philip. She was predeceased by an older sister, Shirley Sheridan and her husband, Gerald, of North Carolina; and survived by a brother, Dr. Mervin Connery and wife, Ann of Napanee; and a younger sister, Lynn Whiteley and her husband Skip of Whitby, Ontario.

A graduate of Renfrew Collegiate and Ottawa Teachers’ College, Elaine was a teacher with the Ottawa School Board and subsequently, the Etobicoke Board of Education. She loved being a primary school teacher, but better still, being a mother to her two young daughters. She will be remembered for her sense of humour, love of family gatherings and the simple pleasures of everyday life!

Cremation has taken place under the care and supervision of the Jones Funeral Home, Sackville, NB (506-364-1300). A memorial service will be held at Sackville United Church on Saturday, August 27th at 11 AM with Rev. John Perkin officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Elaine may be made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital, the Sackville United Church or a charity of your choice.

Christine M. "Chris" Hunter

Christine Margarette "Chris" Hunter 82 years of Leamington, Cumb. Co., passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Nappan. Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the Late Melvin and Mary Veronica (Rose) Vienneau.

Chris loved her family and spending time with them; she enjoyed bowling and all animals.She will be sadly missed by son Roger (Connie) Hunter, Economy; daughters, Linda Hargrave, Parrsboro, Jo-Ann Hunter, Five Islands, Doris Hunter, Springhill, Wendy (Warren Folkins) Hunter, Dorchester and Rose (Jeff) Horsman, Oxford; grandchildren, James, Jennifer, Darren, Robert, Troy,Chris, Alice Anne, Dylan, Michael, Nolan, Kricket and Pam; great grandchildren; Raphael, Chloe, Daphne, Felicity, Dakota, Nicole and Caitlin; missed by special friend Walter; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Warren Rogers Hunter; son, Robbie; grandson, B.J.; son-in-law Paul; sister, Viva.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of A. H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361). A private family graveside service will be held in Leamington Cemetery at a later date.

If so desired, donations to the GOVRC or charity of choice would be appreciated.

Alcide Slaunwhite
1951-2011

The death of Alcide (Al) Slaunwhite, age 60, of Edmonton ,Alberta, and formerly of Pugwash, occurred in Edmonton.

Born in Sudbury, ON, he was a son of the late Stanley and Helen (Monk) Slaunwhite.He was formerly employed with Inovata Foods, Edmonton, AB.

Al will be sadly missed by his partner, Betty Wheaton; stepson Archie Hurley, foster children April and Sheldon Strong; brothers, Henry, Brian, Terry, Ralph, Kevin and Maurice; sisters, Susan and Roma and by half-siblings, Grant, Mary, Colleen, Bonnie, Beverley and Mitch Boychuk. He was predeceased by a daughter, Trina .

Al has been cremated under the direction of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst, NS, from where a time of visitation will be held Wednesday, September 14 2011 from 10 to 11 am.. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home chapel on September 14, 2011 at 11 am. Burial in the St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, Ragged Reef, NS.

Alda Meekins
1920-2011

Alda Meekins, age 91, of Springhill Junction, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Friday, August 26, 2011.

Born in Wallace, NS, she was a daughter of the late Stewart and Jessie (Keiver) Allen.

Alda was a member of the St. Andrew's Wesley United Church, Springhill, a life member of the Lady Minto Rebekah Lodge #23. She loved playing cards, watching all sports, cooking and traveling Above all else came her love for family and friends.

She will be sadly missed by her sons, Robert (Marilyn), Springhill Junction, David (Sandra), Springhill, Paul (Cathy), Salt Springs, NS, and Gary (Deanna), Oyen, AB; daughters, Marilyn Sheppard, Springhill, Patricia (Marlin) Fairman, Calgary, AB, Faye (Doug) Spence, Springhill, Pamela Chedore, Windsor, ON; 28 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Jack E., daughter Jacqueline Beal, grandson Matthew, great grandson Riley, son-in-law Bill Sheppard, brothers Ervin, Stanley and William.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the A H Brown Funeral Home, Springhill, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill, NS (902-597-2361) where visiting hours will take place on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place from the St. Andrews Wesley United Church, Springhill, NS on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 2 pm, Rev Wayne McCarther officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.

Those wishing to make a donation in Alda's memory may do so to the St. Andrews Wesley United Church or charity of your choice.

Kyrsten Pamela Jane Livingston
2004-2011

It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce that Kyrsten Livingston of Springhill, on the day before her 7th birthday, passed away peacefully at the IWK Children's Hospital, Halifax, while surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, August 25, 2011.

Born in Moncton, NB she was a daughter of Alexander "Sandy" Livingston and Ashley Rayworth.

Kyrsten was a student at West End Elementary School, Springhill. She was a team member of the Timbit Soccer League, loved playing T-Ball, and was very protective of her younger brother Chase.

Beside her parents, she will be lovingly and forever missed by little brother Chase; maternal grandparents, Robert "Bob" and Susan (Terris) Rayworth; paternal grandfather Alexander "Sandy" Livingston Sr.; maternal great grandparents, Harold Terris and Joan (Doncaster) Terris, all of Springhill; aunts, Carrie, Lynn (Steve), Melissa (Joel), Janey and uncle Jason (Kim), several great aunts, uncles and cousins as well as her many, many friends.

She was predeceased by paternal grandmother Cindy (Adams) Livingston.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of A. H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902-597-2361). Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 from 1 pm until the time of the funeral. The funeral will take place at 2 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home, Rev. Wayne McCarther officiating.

If so desired, donations in Kyrsten's memory may be made to the Infectious Diseases ICU of the IWK.
