Kathelene Viola Lowe
1919-2011
Kathelene Viola Lowe 92 years of Gables Lodge, Amherst, and formerly Springhill and Mapleton, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 in The Lodge. Born in Maccan, Cumb. Co., she was a daughter of the Late Thompson and Alma (Reid) Lowe.
She enjoyed visits from friends and family.
She will be sadly missed by brother Basil, Amherst; sister, Alice (Fred) Ripley, Kitchener, ON.; sister in law, Constance "Connie" Lowe, Springhill; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother Fred Lowe; sisters, Nellie Lockhart and Bertha Brown.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902-597-2361) where visitation will be held from 1 to 2 pm on Friday, October 21, 2011 followed immediately at 2:00 pm by the Funeral Service with The Reverend Elizabeth Davies officiating. Burial in Mapleton Cemetery.

Rene Vincent Burke
1935-2011
The death of Rene Vincent Burke, 75, of Sackville, occurred at the Drew Nursing Home on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sackville, Rene was a son of the late Frank and Sylvia (Comeau) Burke.
Rene was a devout member of St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church. He had worked at the Drew Nursing Home for sixteen years, up until his retirement. He enjoyed playing Bingo, going out for coffee, watching TV and shopping. As well, he was a very proud grampy to his grandson Myles.
Rene is survived by his wife of forty years, Thelma (Baxter) Burke; a son, Colin (Donna) Burke of Sackville; grandson, Myles; a brother Victor Burke of Sackville; and cousins, Leonard Burke of Sackville, and Gary Fagan of Amherst, NS.
Besides his parents, Rene was predeceased by his son, Jason in 1987.
Arrangements have been entrusted into the care and supervision of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (364-1300) from where visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Friday, October 21, 2011. A funeral service will be held from the St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church, Sackville, at 10 am on Saturday, October 22, 2011. Father Michael Toner officiating. Following the service, Rene will be laid to rest beside his son, Jason, in the Parish Cemetery.
At the request of the family, donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Wayne Joseph Melanson
1953-2011
The death of Wayne Melanson, age 58, of Amherst, formerly of Springhill occurred on Thursday, October 20, 2011 in the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst. Born in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mildred (LeBlanc) Melanson.
Wayne will be sadly missed by his wife Lori (Roy), 2 sons, Andrew (Lori) and Patrick; grandchildren and sisters.
Wayne's remains have been entrusted into the care of the A H Brown Funeral Home, Springhill, with a private graveside service in Hillside Cemetery. There will be no visitation or funeral service.
Thomas Wayne 'Tom' Cole
1953-2011
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Thomas Wayne Cole. Tom, 58, of Westcock, NB passed away peacefully at the Moncton City Hospital comforted by his family on Friday, October 21, 2011 following a lengthy illness. Born in Sackville, he was a son of the late Harry and Lillian (Rivers) Cole.
Tom worked for Correctional Services of Canada for 28 years. In his younger years, Tom was a great outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He had a great passion for motorcycles, gardening, cooking, playing the guitar, and photography. He loved his pets and enjoyed corresponding with his internet penpals.
Tom will be sadly missed by his wife of 39 years, Patricia 'Pat' (Landry); his two daughters, Tracy (Luke) Carter, and Amanda (Shaun) Fleiger; brother Eugene (Rowlena); four grandchildren, Cole and Liam Carter, Kenzie and Noah Fleiger; his mother-in-law Elaine (Hicks) Landry; his faithful companion Mingie; two nieces, Jennifer Murphy and Angela MacDonald, and several Aunts and Uncles.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his father in-law, Edward Landry.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (364-1300). Honoring Tom's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held, Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 2 pm with Pastor Vernon Vickruck officiating.
Donations in Tom's memory may be made to the Extra Mural Program at the Sackville Memorial Hospital or a charity of one's choice.
The family wishes to express their THANK YOU to the doctors and nurses who provided excellent care to Tom, both at home and in the Moncton City Hospital during his lengthy illness
Kenneth A. Henwood
1929-2011
Kenneth A. Henwood 82 years of age, of Springhill, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2011 at the High Crest Nursing Home, Springhill. Born in Parrsboro he was a son of the late James & Laveria (Anderson) Henwood.
Kenneth worked for Surrette Battery Company and Cecil Letcher & Sons. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hockey and baseball. He was a beloved father and husband who enjoyed being with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth Ryan; son, Kenneth (Monica Ferrigno) of Springhill, NS; daughters, Linda Fulton of Portapique, NS, Helen (Edwin) Brine of Maccan, NS, Sharon (Joe) Smith of Port Howe, NS, Betty McKee of Amherst, N.S.; eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by an infant son, brother Donald and son-in-law Lee Fulton.
His remains have been entrusted to the A.H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill from where visiting hours will be held on Monday, October 24, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the A.H. Brown Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 2 p.m. Rev. Buyrne officiating. Burial to take place in the Hillside Cemetery, Springhill.
Donations may be made to the charity of choice.
Anita M. Holland
1928-2011
Anita M. Holland, 83 years of age, of Amherst, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2011 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Born in Upper Sackville, NB she was a daughter of the late Arthur & Adelia (Legere) Cormier
She loved Bingo and playing cards, especially 45's. She loved flowers and working in her garden and was an excellent cook. She loved having company and enjoyed visits with her family whom she loved dearly.
Anita will be sadly missed by her daughters, Helen Lohnes (Bev) of Enfield, NS, Ann Ward (Ray) of Courtney B.C., Mary Taylor (Charlie) of Sussex, NB; sons, Joe ( Sharon) of Amherst, Frank (Laura) of Amherst, Stanley Jr (Margaret) of Westville, NS; sisters, Yvonne Stewart of Amherst, Elizabeth Cormier (Bob) of Moncton,; brothers, John ( Elsie) of Sask., Joe (Bev) of Amherst, Bill (Laura) of Amherst, Gerry (Val) of Lorneville, NS; nineteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Stanley, sons Aubrey, Stanley Jr in infancy, her brothers, Albert & Alphonse, sister, Winnie.
Anita's remains have been entrusted to Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St. Amherst, NS where the family will receive visitors on Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at the Holy Family Parish on Monday, October 31, 2011 at 10 a.m. with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Burial to take place in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery at a later date.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Lung Association.
E. Victor Dujay
1915-2011
The death of E. Victor Dujay, 96, of New Glasgow and formerly of Joggins and Amherst, occurred peacefully at home on October 30, 2011. Born in Little River, NS, Victor was a son of the late John and Leanna (White) Dujay.
Victor worked for 23 years in the Joggins Coal Mines, then with TD Bank & Trust in Toronto. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish and most recently St. John The Baptist Church, New Glasgow. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 4, Joggins.
He was an avid baseball fan, and in particular, he was a huge fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. In his earlier years, he played for the Joggins baseball team.
Victor will be sadly missed by his wife, Jean (nee Burke); daughters, Alma (William) Mills of Joggins, June (James) Melanson of Dartmouth; a son, Ross (Mary) of New Glasgow; sister, Marcella McKay of Joggins; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by three infant children; a son, Stirling; a sister Jessie LeBlanc; brothers, Cornelius "Peewee", Wilson, Eric, Ronald, Carl, and Lester.
Arrangements have been entrusted into the care and supervision of Furlong~Jones Funeral Homes, River Hebert from where public visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral mass will be held at 11 am from the St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Joggins on Thursday, November 3, 2011, with Father Gary MacPherson officiating. Following the service, Victor will be laid to rest in the St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery (Ragged Reef), Joggins.

Marjorie MacInnes
1935-2011
Marjorie MacInnes, age 76, of Amherst, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Dr. Georges L Dumont Hospital, Moncton, NB. Born in Moncton, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Rachel (Berry) Teed.
Marjorie was a homemaker. In her younger days she loved to dance and play bingo.
Marjorie will be sadly missed by 3 sons, Donald of Toronto, John of Amherst and Gary of Dartmouth; 1 granddaughter, Mat-yia Matthews; sisters, Mary (Robert) Curry, Moncton, Sandra, Toronto, Sheila (Randy) Deware, Moncton, Jean (Jim) MacIntyre, Riverview, Bernice (Reginald) Emmerson, Dorchester; brothers, Ronald (Rita) Teed, England, Paul (Joyce) Teed, Toronto; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Donnie, sisters Joan, Carmel and brothers, Willis, Reginald, Gary and Bernie.
Cremation has taken place under the care and supervision of Furlong - Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst (902-667-8777), from where visitation will take place on Thursday, November 3, 2011 from 1 - 2 pm, followed immediately by a memorial service at 2 pm. Burial will take place in the Amherst Cemetery, Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Marjorie may do so to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.
Ruth "Tudie" Dwyer
1927-2012
With much sadness, the family of Ruth "Tudie" Dwyer announce her peaceful passing at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Thursday, January 12, 2012.
Born in Lower Maccan, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Gladys (Burbine) O'Brien.
"Tudie" was a member of the Holy Family Parish, the CWL and the Maccan Royal Canadian Legion. She was an avid "Bingo" player and always a fan of the Maccan Royals Ball Team.
"Tudie" will be sadly missed by 6 sons, Teddy (Ruth), Earl (Judy), Bobby (Donna), Rickey (Margaret), Stanley (Ann) and Sandy (Tammy), all of Maccan; 3 daughters, Gloria (Roy) LeBlanc and Donna Dwyer, both of Maccan and Brenda Burke of St. Catherine's ON; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Doug (Dorothy), Robert (Joan) and Ernest (Bernice); 2 sisters, Dorothy (Richard) and Shirley; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Ed Dwyer Sr in 2007, and by sons, David and an infant; a grandson, Richard a brother Frank and son-in-law Fred Burke.
Tudie's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst where family and friends are invited to a time of visitation Saturday from 7 to 9 and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated from the Holy Family Parish Church on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 11 am. Burial in the Maccan Cemetery in the spring. Memorial donations to a charity of the donor's choice gratefully accepted.
