Surviving are companion, Audrey McPhee; daughters, Brenda, Sandra, Donna; sons, Tom, Wayne, Darrell; stepdaughters, Anna, Cathy, Michelle; stepsons, Leroy, John, Malcolm; sisters, Mary Martin, Rita, Roseline; 18 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. Predeceased by sisters, Carmella, Jane Buchanan, Fredia McArthur, Margaret Gardinier; brothers, Vincent, Joseph, Francis. Cremation by V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. Private family service in funeral home chapel Wednesday, 11 a.m. Interment in the parish cemetery.
MAJCHER, Waldemer "Mike" Lt. Cdr. (Ret'd)
74, of Dartmouth, passed away April 20, 2009, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax, after a lengthy battle with leukemia. Born in Alonsa, Man., he was the son of the late William Robert and Maria (Kozyr) Majcher. Raised on the family farm in McCreary, Man., he joined the Air Force at the age of 17 in 1952. He was an air weapons tech in his early years and while stationed in Cold Lake, Alta., he became an early member of Canada's Para Rescue Team in 1964. While doing a second tour in Germany he was commissioned into the Navy in 1969 and was posted to HMCS Saguenay in Halifax. Following his years at sea he became a computer programmer at CSD. He retired from the military in 1988 after 37 loyal years of service. For the following eight years he taught computer programming for TUNS. Mike was a dedicated volunteer in the Dartmouth sports community. He was an active director with Shearwater East Dartmouth Minor Hockey Association, President of Bel Ayr Minor Baseball Association, including many enjoyable years as a coach. Survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mary Isabel (MacDonald); daughters, Karen (Carl) Noseworthy of Greenwood; Patricia (Joe) Martin of St. Catherine's; sons, William (Janet) of Vancouver; Gordon (Cisela) of Ottawa; granddaughters, Emily, Joanna, Annika; grandsons, Robert, Chris, Niklas, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Marshall and sister, Wanda. He is survived by brother, Leon of Winnipeg. He had a great love for his grandchildren and patience for his in-laws. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 22, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in Pope John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 35 Colby Dr., Cole Harbour. Burial in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
MacLELLAN, John Francis
Inverness. It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father, grandfather and uncle, John Francis MacLellan in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital on Sunday, April 19, 2009. Born in Inverness on June 21, 1925, John was the son of the late Archie and Catherine (Campbell) MacLellan (of Deepdale Road, Inverness Co.). He is survived by his son, Frank; grandchildren, Carrie Anne and Sean, great-grandchildren, Sydney and Brooklyn, all of Kitchener, Ont.; sister, Catherine (MacLellan) Poirier, Dartmouth; sister-in-law, Margaret MacLellan, Deepdale; many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his wife, Emma Beatrice (LeBlanc) MacLellan; sisters, Mary (Roy), Halliday, Katie Belle (Alex Joe) MacKinnon, Annie (Murdock) White; brothers, John A. (Agnes), Alex (Helen), Jimmy and Dan. According to John's wishes cremation will take place under the care of Inverness Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held in Stella Maris Church, Inverness with burial in the parish cemetery at a later date. WAMBOLT, Shirley Jean
73, Halifax, passed away April 20, 2009, in Parkstone Enhanced Care. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Doris (Myra) Hartlen. Shirley loved to go camping, and especially family gatherings, and time spent with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are daughters, Linda (Wade) Ross, Walton; Tina Wambolt (Arthur Yorke), Shelly Wambolt (Chris Cooper) and Earthela Flint, all of Halifax; sisters, Lillian Conrad, Lunenburg and Heather Hartlen; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a great great-grandson. She was predeceased by husband, Harris Wambolt; sisters, Beatrice Baldwin and Ruby Sabean. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m., Thursday with funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday, April 24, both in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. Interment in Oakridge Memory Gardens.
ANDERSON, Amour Elaine
It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Amour Elaine Anderson of Glace Bay on Saturday, April 18, 2009, in Seaview Manor. Amour was a daughter of Roderick and Mary (Beaton) Anderson. She was a former resident of 236 Brookside St., Glace Bay, and a resident of Seaview Manor since 2005. She is survived by sisters, Mary (Earl) Demont and Thelma MacDonald, both of Glace Bay; brother, Lorne, Coxheath and sister-in-law, Marge Anderson. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins all across Canada and the United States; special grandnieces, Brittany, Caitlin, Renee and Chelsea Demont, Bloomington, Ill. She was predeceased by sister, Francis Broderick and brother, Roderick Anderson. Amour was a graduate of Glace Bay High School. She worked at T. Eaton Company, Glace Bay and Halifax where she retired as executive secretary to the general manager. She was a devoted member of Knox United Church and Unit 67 of the United Church Women. She served for many years as a representative from Knox at the Presbytery level of the United Church of Canada. She enjoyed many vacations at Broad Cove Banks, Inverness, Cape Breton, where her mother was born. The family extends sincere thanks to her caregivers at Seaview Manor and also to her doctor of many years, Dr. David Ley. Cremation has taken place and visitation took place in Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, 849-7520, Tuesday, April 21 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held in Knox United Church, today, April 22, at 7 p.m. with Rev. John Finlayson officiating. Reception to follow. Burial in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date. Family flowers only please. RUSHTON, Raymond Logan
The death occurred suddenly at his residence on Monday, April 20, 2009, of Raymond Logan Rushton, of Arcona Street, Summerside, P.E.I., aged 66 years. Born in Portaupique, he was a son of Raymond and the late Marion (MacKay) Rushton. He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Mailman) Rushton; children, Chris (Jeannine), Rocky, Ray (Ruby), Tanya (Chris) MacAusland; grandchildren, Jelisa, Bailey, Hannah, Anne Marie, Joshua, Brittany and Aurora Rushton, Jasmine MacAusland; nieces who were like daughters, Cindy Galt, Linda Gallant, Sandra Abbott and Darlene Gallant; stepmother, Pearle (Upham) Rushton; brothers and sisters, Mary (Art) Dillman, Hilda Hughes, Reg (Yvonne), Charles, Ralph (Betty), Sharon Noble, Judy (Pat) Doll, Geraldine (Brian) Thompson and Donald (Darlene). He was predeceased by brother, Bryce and sister, Linda, in infancy. The remains are resting in Moasae Funeral Home, Summerside, until Friday, then to St. Paul's Church, Summerside, for funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment later in St. Paul's Cemetery, Summerside. Visiting hours Thursday from 5-8 p.m. only. Memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated. Members of the Summerside Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion will hold a Service of Remembrance at the funeral home, Thursday at 4:45 p.m.
FALKENHAM (Whynot), Joan Marie
Italy Cross, passed away peacefully with her children at her side on April 21, 2009, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Liverpool, Joan was the eldest child of the late Muriel (Minnick) and Wilson G. Whynot. She spent her childhood in Liverpool before moving to Lunenburg County as a newlywed with the love of her life, Vernon Falkenham. Joan was employed by South Shore Regional School Board as a school bus driver for 23 years. She formed lifelong friendships among her fellow drivers and lasting bonds with so many of the thousands of children on her routes over the years. Joan loved fast cars, big Ford trucks, bluegrass music, Florida and finding the perfect camping site. Joan's warmth, smile, and fun-loving personality made her a magnet that drew others to her. Whether at dances on the South Shore with Vernie, in the park in Florida, at Bluegrass festivals around the Maritimes, or in the Quarter Horse community from Texas to Ohio to Atlantic Canada, Joan was always at the centre of the fun. Joan's deepest love and greatest pride was her family. To her children she was simply the best mother a person could ever hope for. To her grandchildren she was their "Super Nan". Joan is survived by son, Barry, Italy Cross; daughter, Heidi (Royce) Naugler, and grandchildren, Dylan and Talor Naugler, Camperdown. She is also survived by siblings, Wayne, Sheila Huskins, Irene MacDougall, Brenda Dexter, Glen, Ross, Daniel "Boomie", Virginia and Jimmy, along with their families, all of Liverpool. Joan was predeceased by her husband, Vernon and brother, Irvin. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Thursday, April 23rd, in R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville. 43, of Truro, passed away suddenly April 16, 2009, at home. Born in Windsor, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Carrie (Weatherbee) Sullivan. Geraldine was a member of the Salvation Army Corp. She is survived by son, Adam, at home; brother, Bruce (Sheryl), Hilden. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 22nd, in Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 23rd, at 2 p.m. in the Salvation Army Corp, Truro, with Major Janice Bishop and Major Rocky Bishop officiating. A reception will follow in the Corp. 60, Dartmouth, passed away April 16, 2009, in the VG Site, QEII. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Allison and Clara Shorten. She was a loving mother. Surviving are daughters, Nicole Auby, Michelle Auby, both of Dartmouth; Jeanette Vincze, Calgary, Alta.; son, Craig Auby, Dartmouth; sister, Carol Chadnik, Calgary, Alta.; brothers, Donald Shorten and Robert Shorten, both of Ontario; grandchildren, Jaret and Cassandra Laliberty, Kara and Riley Auby. Cremation has taken place, a private graveside service will take place at a later date. Donations may be made to a charity of choice.

61 years, of Eastern Passage, passed away suddenly on April 16, 2009. Born in Wolfville, he was a son of the late Morley and Hilda (Jordon) Nowlin. He was employed with Canada Bread Atlantic (formerly Ben's) at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, the former Patricia Labrador; stepson, Thomas Hynes, sisters, Joan Nowlin (Murray), Wolfville; Marilyn MacKenzie (Gary), Halifax; two stepsisters, Helen Levy, Black River; Ethel Lake, Wolfville; as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Eastern Passage Community Funeral Home, 5 Cow Bay Rd., Eastern Passage. Family flowers only, by request. 88, of Middle Sackville, passed away April 20, 2009, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late William and Charlotte Ryan. Helen was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Vimy Branch 27 Ladies Auxiliary and the I.O.D.E. She had worked at the National Health and Welfare Department as an administrator for over 30 years. She is survived by daughters, Sherry Martin, Lower Sackville, and Paula (John) Marknette, Middle Sackville; grandchildren, John (Jennifer) Marknette, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Kristle Marknette, Middle Sackville; great-grandchildren, Sarah Anne and A.J. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Albert; sister, Margaret. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., with Rev. Patricia Malin officiating.
