Mr. Ronald S. Schofield
1911-2009
Ronald Sylvester Schofield - 97, of White Rock, Kings County, passed away Friday, February 13, 2009, at home. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there will be no visitation or funeral service by family request. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.

Mr. Rex W. Schofield
1915-2009
Rex William Schofield - 93, of New Minas, Kings County, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 14, 2009 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Starrs Point, Kings County, he was a son of the late Arch and Eva (Corkum) Schofield of White Rock and was one of ten children. He was educated as an electrician in 1938 and served during the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Navy from 1939 to 1945. He participated primarily in the Battle of the Atlantic and sonar defense of Halifax. In 1942 he married Pearl Margarite Lantz of Pleasantville, Nova Scotia and they shared 66 wonderful years together. Following the war, they moved to New Minas and raised their family. In 1956 they began Rex's Electric of New Minas which continues to this day by their eldest son, Arch. He was an active member of his community and the New Minas Baptist Church. In addition to serving on numerous boards and committees of the church, Rex chaired the 1968 building project on the present Ultramar property, and served on the 1984 - 85 building committee that initiated moving and constructing a new building at the present location. He was a founding member of the New Minas Fire Department and a member of Gideon's International, Kings Branch. Rex was a respected businessman, a community leader, a faithful servant of Jesus Christ and a loving husband, father and grandfather. He has now graduated to be with his Lord. He is survived by his wife, Pearl; four children, Sharon (Peter) Merriam of Dartmouth; Deedra (Derek) Critch of Sussex, New Brunswick; R. Archibald (Janet) of Canaan; Douglas (Kathleen) of Kentville; two brothers, Robert, Greenwich and Fay, Black River; two sisters, Edith Keill, St. John’s, Newfoundland and Alberta MacLellan, Moncton, New Brunswick; 12 grandchildren, Deborah Merriam (Michael Peckham), Joanne Merriam (Alan Slone), Matthew Critch, Brooke Chiasson, Iain (Megan) Chiasson, Andrew (Andrea) Schofield, Nicholas (Aoife) Schofield, Paula Schofield, Mark Schofield, Scott Schofield (Elizabeth Jackson), James (Connie) Schofield and Julia Schofield; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Lee Schofield; two sisters, Vilda Burchall and Evelyn Hall; three brothers, Ronald, Earl and Dean. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2009 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service followed by a reception will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2009 in the New Minas Baptist Church, Reverend Doctor Robert Knowles officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Family flowers only by request. Donations in memory may be made to the New Minas Baptist Church … Building Fund, the Alzheimer Society, Gideon’s International or to a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.

Mr. Lawrence A. Schofield
1931-2009
Lawrence Arthur Schofield – 77, of West Halls Harbour, Kings County, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2009 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Baxter’s Harbour, he was a son of Samuel and Verna (Rafuse) Schofield. He worked as a mechanic and operated a service station in Sheffield Mills for many years. He was later employed with Scotian Gold, Coldbrook for over 20 years, retiring as the head of the maintenance department. In his retirement he turned his focus back to mechanics and enjoyed fellowship with family and friends as he worked on various vehicles in his shop. He also enjoyed camping, blue grass music and bird watching. He is survived by his wife, the former Hilda MacDonald; a daughter, Sherry-Ann (Raymond) Huxter, West Halls Harbour; three step-children, Jean (Barry) Lindsay-Brown, The Netherlands; Bronson (Pauline) Patterson, Long Beach Road, Kings County; Bill (Linda) Patterson, Halls Harbour; brothers, Daniel “Owen” (Myrna), New Minas; Everett (Jessie), Glenmont; two sister, Doris Banks, New Minas; Linda (Allison) Coleman, Mount Uniacke; three grandchildren, Railene, Evan and Leigh; nine step grandchildren, Sarah, Susan, John, Crystal, Anita, Nadia, Shawn, Dylan and Dawson; three great grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his twin brother, Laurie. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there will be no visitation, by family request. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2009 in the West Halls Harbour Baptist Church, Pastor David Cumby officiating. A reception will follow in the Halls Harbour Fire Hall. Burial will take place at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the West Halls Harbour Baptist Church or the Valley Regional Hospital. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.

Mr. Frank E. Redden
1933-2009
Frank Ellery Redden – 75, of Kentville, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2009 at home. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late Gordon and Reta (Kelly) Redden. He had been employed with Avon Foods for many years, retiring as Traffic and Production Manager. He was a member of the Kentville United Baptist Church where he was a former member of the Board of Deacons and was an amateur ham radio operator. He volunteered with the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses – Meals on Wheels Program. He is survived by his wife, the former Joan Anne Newcomb; a daughter, The Reverend Sheila May (Douglas Smith) Redden-Smith, Moncton, New Brunswick; three sons, The Reverend Canon Gordon F. Redden (Mary Lu Roffey), Halifax; David Paul (Janine) Redden, New Maryland, New Brunswick; Brian Phillip (Richelle) Redden, Kentville; a sister Carole Roxanne (Lewis) Dickson, Miramichi, New Brunswick; a sister-in-law, Nina Redden, London, Ontario; nine grandchildren, Kari, Troy, Adam, David, Maria, Jenica, Cole, Keira and Caiden; three great granddaughters, Kelsey, Ava and Abigail; three nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Harold and a niece, Lesley. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there will be no visitation, by family request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2009 in the Kentville United Baptist Church, The Reverend John McNally officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville. Family flowers only by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Kentville United Baptist Church, the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses or to a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.

Mr. McKay Schofield
1930-2009
McKay Ross “Kay” Schofield … 78, of Greenfield Road, Gaspereau Mountain, Kings County, passed away Monday, February 16, 2009 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Greenwich, Kings County, he was a son of the late Ralph and Dorothy (Pye) Schofield. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1951-53. Following the war, he was employed with Scotian Gold Co-operative Limited, retiring after 36 years of service. He was an avid hockey fan and loved to listen to Highland music and sitting on his perch. He is survived by four sons, Derek (Cynthia), Gaspereau Mountain; Mark (Rose), Toronto; Stevie (Linda), Gaspereau Mountain, Perry (Meleta), Avonport; five grandchildren, Misty, Marshall, Mitchell, Brandon and Ryan; two great grandchildren, Austin and Brandon; two brothers, Victor and Wilson; a sister, Laura. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Norma Atwell; two brothers, Murray and Thorton. Kay will be sadly missed but never forgotten. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there will be no visitation, by family request. A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2009 in the Gaspereau Cemetery, Reverend Ellen Hunt officiating. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.

Mr. Earl Arenburg
1917-2009
Earl Kitchener Arenburg … 91, of Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown, formerly of Kentville passed away Sunday, February 15, 2009 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late James and Eva (Meisner) Arenburg. He had been employed as grounds keeper and in general maintenance for Dr. R.W. Healy. He was a hockey fan and especially enjoyed listening to the Acadia Axemen games on the radio. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by several nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by three sisters, Mamie, Greta and Gladys; five brothers, John, Roy, Archie, Claude and Gordon. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2009 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, February 19, 2009, Reverend Thelma McLeod officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.
