Mr. Victor Lawson Daley
1927-2009
Victor Lawson Daley - 82, of New Minas, passed away Saturday August 22, 2009 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born in Digby on August 15, 1927 to the late Blair and Bessie (Handspiker) Daley. Vic worked at Sears in Halifax for 24 years before moving to New Minas. He was co-owner/operator, with his wife Millie, of the Mayflower Motel for 13 years. Vic was a very talented musician and singer. He loved the jam sessions with his friends at home and at Three Worlds Camp Resort in Florida, which was their winter home for 21 years. Vic took great pride in everything he did and it showed in his immaculately kept home and property. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 59 years, Mildred (Arsenault); daughter, Cindy Croft (Alan) Kentville; son Rodney (Jeannie), Urbania, Hants County; sisters, Lillian Swanburg (Paul), New Minas; Kathleen Walker, Digby; one brother, Bernard, Digby; four grandsons, Bryson, Jeff and Chris Daley and Kevin Croft; two granddaughters, Nicole and Lacey Croft; four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, Robert Lawson “Frosty”. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. There will be no visitation, by family request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 27, 2009 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, Father Craig Christenson officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. Mr. Malcolm Rufus MacBride
1926-2009
Malcolm Rufus MacBride - 83, of Canning, Kings County, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2009 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Blomidon, Kings County, he was a son of the late James and Edna (Greene) MacBride. He was a veteran of the Second World War and member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Habitant Branch No. 73, Canning. He spent his working career as a plumber. He is survived by his wife, the former Constance Sinnett; five daughters, Dawn Merry, Canning; Trudie Rogers, Canning; Carla (Robert Kelly) MacBride, Dartmouth; Kelley (James Peralty) Huntley, Black River Road; Tracie (Dale Hill) MacBride, Canning; three sons, Terry, Canning; Dale, Canning; Tony (Mary), Scott’s Bay Road; three sisters, Arley (Dwight) Bigelow, Kentville; Emeline Porter, New Minas; Jean (Arthur) Woolaver, Blomidon; a brother, Wesley (Roberta) Canning; sister-in-law, Eunice MacBride, Pereau; 18 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Tammy Rae MacBride; a sister, Emily; a brother, Elmer; a grandson, Johnny Merry; a granddaughter, Tina Lee Rogers; a great grandson, Tyler North; son-in-law, Jackie Merry; daughter-in-law, Idelle MacBride. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. There will be no visitation, by family request. A combined Royal Canadian Legion service and funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2009 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Wayne Mitton officiating. Burial will take place in the Hillaton Cemetery, Kings County. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Valley Regional Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society. Mrs. Neva Mae Ward

Neva Mae Ward - 87, of Kentville, passed away peacefully at Evergreen Home for Special Care on Monday, August 24, 2009 surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born in Amherst, Nova Scotia on February 16, 1922, daughter of the late Willard and Evelyn (Edgett) Tingley. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert of 40 years; sister, Mildred Reilly; brother, Donald Tingley; grandson, Shawn Ferry. She was a former member of the Kentville United Baptist Church, where she was an active participant in the Dorcas Society and the Ethel Fenerty Missionary Group. She was also a member of the St. Eulalie Rebekah Lodge, Kentville and the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. In her later years, she lived in Billtown, where she was a member of the Billtown Baptist Church, the Jean Rushton Auxiliary, church choir and missionary group. She will be sadly missed by her son, Calvin (Cynthia), Billtown; daughters, Donna (Peter) Ferry, Corner Brook, Newfoundland; Sylvia (Terry) Whynot, Chester Basin; sister, Margaret Fage, Amherst; adopted daughter, Joyce (David) Palmeter, Kentville; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; special sister-in-law, Doris Rand, Port Williams; nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 27, 2009 in the Billtown Baptist Church, Reverend Carol Dimmock officiating. Burial will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville. Mr. Ernest S. Wentzell
1944-2009
Ernest St. Clair “Ernie” Wentzell - 65, of Kentville, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2009 in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Kentville on August 15, 1944, he was a son of the late Angus and Lorna (Crouse) Wentzell. He joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps and served in the Military for 32 years, including posts in Borden, Halifax, Cornwallis, Germany and the Middle East. He enjoyed music and played the drums and sang in bands in Nova Scotia and Germany. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Annapolis Royal, Germany and Dartmouth. He was also a former member of the Philae Temple Shriners. He is survived by a son, Stephen (Gail), Dartmouth; a daughter, Maureen (Tamir Weiner), Calgary; two grandsons, Evan and Mark Wentzell; his birth mother, Jean Balsor, Kentville; three half-sisters, Sharon (Harold) Dill, Canning; Lorna Shaw, Victoria, British Columbia; Muriel (St. Clair) Salsman, Woodville; three half-brothers, Eugene (Leslie) Balsor, Duncan, British Columbia, Kim (Karen) Balsor, Victoria, British Columbia and Darrell (Sylvia) Balsor, New Brunswick; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant son, Alan Scott. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. Brian Stewart Doane – 57, of Kentville, passed away suddenly Friday, August 7, 2009 at home. Born in Kentville, Kings County, he was a son of Beulah (Buckler) Doane, Kentville and the late George Doane. He is survived by sisters, Marlene Doane, Waterville; Lynn Doane, Kentville; brother, Kevin Doane, Port Williams; niece, Shelby Greenough, New Minas. He was predeceased by his father, George Doane. There will be no visitation by family request. A family graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 12, 2009 in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County, Reverend John McNally officiating. Raymond Malcolm Boudreau … 88, of Little Dover, Guysborough County, died peacefully with his daughter, Helen Murphy and son-in-law, John Murphy, his sons, Ronnie, and Terry and his wife, Carol by his side, Sunday, August 9, 2009 in the Camp Hill Veteran’s Memorial Building, Halifax. Born in Little Dover, he was a son of the late Remy and Josephine (Barry) Boudreau. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving overseas with the North Nova Scotia Regiment. Following the war, he was a self-employed lobster fisherman. He was a well-known harmonica player. He is survived by four daughters, Carol Anne (Aubrey) Benoit, Halifax; Helen (John) Murphy, New Minas; Joyce Boudreau, Newmarket, Ontario; Mary (Mark) Lumsden, Oakridge, Tennessee; four sons, Ron (Eileen), Thunder Bay, Ontario; Terry (Carol), Cole Harbour; Jerry, Cole Harbour; Perry (Kelly), Halifax; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, the former Kathleen Clarke, whom he met and married in Aldershot, England; two sons, Raymond and Malcolm. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2009 in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. The funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2009 in St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Little Dover, Father Daniel Boudreau officiating.
