Mr. Lester Garfield Young
1932-2010
Lester Garfield Young - 77, of Youngs Cove, Annapolis County, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2010 in the Annapolis Community Health Centre, Annapolis Royal. Born in Youngs Cove, he was a son of the late Lamont and Addie Mae (Hudson) Young. He was a retired carpenter and fisherman. He was also an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time at the hunting camp. He was a former warden of St. Peter’s By the Sea Anglican Church, Youngs Cove. Lester also enjoyed exploring and combing the beach. He is survived by his wife, the former Idella Mae Sarty; a sister-in-law, Marion Young, Youngs Cove; a nephew, Gary Young, Parkers Cove; extended family nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Floyd. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. There will be no visitation, by request. A graveside funeral service will be held in the Youngs Cove Cemetery in April on a date to be announced. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Youngs Cove Cemetery Fund. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
Mrs. Marguerite Joyce "Peggy" Boates
1921-2010
Marguerite Joyce “Peggy” (Matthews) Boates - 88, Kentville, Nova Scotia. It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our dear mother and grandmother in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville on Monday, January 18, 2010. Born on February 11, 1921 in Berwick, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Ethel (Peverill) Matthews. She held fond memories of growing up in Berwick and delightful summers spent with her sister and parents at the family cottage in Lake George. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, joyous laughter, generous spirit and compassionate, loving nature. She was always concerned with the less fortunate and gave kindness to all. She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends, and many a delicious meal was enjoyed in her home. Devoted to her family, she took great delight in the adventures, hopes and dreams of her children and grandchildren. Always a loyal friend to those who knew and loved her, she treasured each and every friendship. Peggy is survived by her children, Matthew (Holly) Boates, Wolfville and Catherine Green, Kentville. Fondly named "Gigi" by her grandchildren, Drew (Jane) Duffus, Bedford; Ashley Duffus, California; Laura Boates, Halifax; Jill Boates, Halifax; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Veronica Duffus. She is also survived by her beloved sister and pal, Blossom (Mrs. Gil Gates) Kentville; brother-in law, Reg (Cora) Boates, Wolfville; stepson, Keith (Charlotte) Boates, Woodville and their families. She will be especially missed by her grand-doggies, "Pepper Boates" and "Buffy Green". In addition to her parents, Peggy was predeceased by her husband, Irving Boates, infant daughter, Debbie and infant grandson, David William Green; son-in-law, David Green; brother-in-law, Gil Gates. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, January 21, 2010 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2010, Reverend Elizabeth Johnson officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Mr. David Albert Young
1940-2010
David Albert Young - 69, of Kentville, Nova Scotia, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at home. Born in Chatham, New Brunswick, he was a son of the late Harvey and Greta (O’Leary) Young. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy and the Canadian Coast Guard, retiring from the Sir William Alexander. He carried out the tradition of his father, shoeing horses and doing blacksmith work. He enjoyed history, reading, spending time at home and caring for his late wife, Theresa. He is survived by a son, Shaun (Darlene), Greenwood; two step-daughters, Beatrice (Fred) and Jeanie (Al), both of Hamilton, Ontario; a step-son, Norman (Josie), Kentville; a brother, Paul, Fredericton; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Theresa Buckley; two step-sons, Lester and George; a step-grandson, Peter. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. There will be no visitation, by family request. Services will be held at a later date in Miramichi, New Brunswick. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Cancer Society. Mr. John Bernard "Bernie" Parisotto
John Bernard “Bernie” Parisotto - 68, of the Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre, Waterville, Kings County, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2010 in the Western Kings Memorial Health Centre, Berwick. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Alexander and Estelle (MacDonald) Parisotto. A quiet man with a big heart and a great sense of humour, Bernie enjoyed drawing and listening to music. He is survived by his extended family and friends at Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre; a sister, Mary (the late Francois) Gonzalez and a brother, Ronald, both of California. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Alex. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville and there will be no visitation or funeral service by request. A graveside service will take place at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre. Audrey May Whitehead - 93, of Cambridge, Kings County, formerly of Waterford, Ontario, passed away Friday, January 22, 2010 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Waterford, Ontario, she was a daughter of the late Melvin and Rose (Clifford) Vince. She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn (Roy) Dodge, Cambridge; three sons, Robert (Marilyn) Morris, Stittsville, Ontario; Clifford (Barbara) Morris, Brantford, Ontario and Bryan (Cindy) Morris, Toronto, Ontario; a sister, Eva (Allen) Brodley, Waterford; a brother, Lorne Vince, Waterford; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Henry Morris, her second husband, Elwood Whitehead; two sisters, Mary Sloat and Clara Walker; two brothers, Joseph and Albert Vince. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2010 in the Thompson-Mott Funeral Home, Waterford, Ontario. Interment will take place in the Delhi Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
