John Thomas Baldwin
67, New Waterford

John Thomas Baldwin, 67, of 277 Olive St., New Waterford, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, after a lengthy illness.
Born in New Waterford, Tom was the son of the late James and Genevieve (Gaulton) Baldwin of New Waterford. Tom dedicated his life to the mining industry of Cape Breton Island and as far away as Vancouver Island. Hired as a labourer by Docso in 1950, Tom began his career as a labourer in No. 12 Colliery. Working his way through the ranks, Tom served as mine manager at Lingan, Prince and Phalen Collieries. Upon his retirement in 1991, Tom was the assistant to the superintendent of mines for Devco.
After his lengthy mining career in Cape Breton, Tom was hired as a consultant for Canadian Mine Development and was involved in mines as far away as Vancouver. At the time of his passing, Tom was an active member of the Canadian Mining Society.
In earlier years, Tom was very active in the sport of hockey, having played in both Northside and Glace Bay commercial leagues. In later years, Tom could be found in the various arenas following his beloved grandchildren.
Tom was also active in St. Agnes Parish, having served as an altar boy in his earlier years and a Eucharistic Minister at the time of his passing.
Tom is survived by his wife, the former Iris McLellan of Glace Bay; daughter, Terri Lynn (Tim) Spencer, New Waterford; sons, Gary (Leona), Ken (Sharon), James “Binky” (Paula), New Waterford and John of Campbell River, B.C.; one brother, James, New Waterford; four sisters, Lillian Fortier, Ottawa, Norma McNeil, New Victoria, Marilyn Perry, Lingan and Selena Rose, New Waterford. Tom is also survived by 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Tom was predeceased by a son, Stephen and brother, Myles “Squirt.”
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday), 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral mass Friday, 10 a.m. in St. Agnes Church with Fr. Bob Neville officiating. Burial in St. Agnes Cemetery, New Waterford.

Rose Dyson

Memorial Service
It is with deep sorrow that we the family of Rose Dyson, a resident of England, inform you of her death which occurred on March 31, 2000, in England.
Rose will be sadly missed by her loving daughter, Rita Finney, North Sydney; also by granddaughter, Moya (Ted) Marsh, Mill Creek and by great-grandsons, Paul and Adam Marsh.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. from St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney with Archdeacon Reg MacDonald officiating.
Angus Kenneth “Moose” Ferguson
67, Baddeck
Angus Kenneth “Moose” Ferguson, 67, of Baddeck, died June 5, 2000, at home.
Born in Baddeck, he was a son of the late Angus and Katherine (MacAskill) Ferguson. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Baddeck. Moose spent all his working life with Nova Scotia Power, retiring in 1988 after 35 years. His gentle, kind manner won him the respect of family and friends and co-workers. He will be missed by many who loved him.
Surviving are special friend, Ann Allen, Baddeck; brothers, Richard (Kaye), Halifax, Dave (Jill), Woodstock, Ont.; sister, Anna Digout, Truro; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brother, Cecil.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. today (Wednesday), June 7 in MacAskill Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 8, in Knox Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Lloyd Murdock officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Robert Joseph Isadore
42, Wagmatcook
Robert Joseph Isadore, 42, of Wagmatcook, N.S., died Monday, June 5, 2000, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Baddeck, he was a son of Stephen and Martha Isadore. He was a member of the Queen of the World Catholic Church, Wagmatcook. He will be very sadly missed by everyone who knew him, especially his children.
Surviving are son, Michael Isadore, Wagmatcook; seven daughters, Marlene Isadore, Doreen Isadore, Loretta Isadore, Erica Isadore, Kristen Googoo, twins, Melisa and Alisa Googoo, all of Wagmatcook; one brother, Richard Marshal, Wagmatcook; four sisters, Pauline Isadore, Doris Googoo, Nancy Paul, all of Wagmatcook and Mary Bernard, Eskasoni; grandchildren, Katrina Isadore, Christopher Isadore, Savannah Isadore, Tristen Isadore, all of Wagmatcook.
He was predeceased by a sister, Catherine Ann Isadore.
The body is resting at the residence of Stephen and Martha Isadore, Wagmatcook with visiting hours, Thursday after 4 p.m. and all day Friday. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, in Queen of the World Catholic Church, with Rev. R.D. Smith officiating. Burial will be the parish cemetery.

Richard Allan McNeil
52, Glace Bay
Richard passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex in his 52nd year after a valiant struggle with cancer.
Richard was born in Ontario and moved to Cape Breton at a very early age. Richard was very much a free spirit, spending time in Glace Bay, Ontario and the west coast of Canada.
His working history encompassed stationary engineer, brakeman and conductor for the CNR.
All of Richard’s family will miss him dearly including his father, D.J. McNeil, Petawawa, Ont.; grandmother, Mary Shepard, Glace Bay; two sons, Matthew, Banff and Adam, Edmonton; sisters, Corrine MacGillivary, Caribou Marsh Road, Dolna McNeil, Toronto; brothers, David MacGillivary, Hampton, Virginia, Danny McNeil, Ottawa; aunts, Arlene Ashford, Fredericton, Mildred Shepard, Glace Bay; nieces, Aundy McNeil, Toronto, Jessica and Taylor MacGillivary, Hampton, Virginia.
Honourary pallbearers are his dear friends, Antonio Da Silva, Fabio Fiumana, Toronto.
Visitation for Richard will be held Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. John Graham officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
Donations in Richard’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Association or to a charity of choice are suggested as an expression of sympathy.
Annie Katherine (Ferguson) Munroe
90, Reserve Mines
Annie Katherine Munroe, 90, of 2151 Hwy. No. 4, Reserve Mines and formerly of Broughton, died Monday, June 5, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Broughton, she was the youngest daughter of the late Donald John and Catherine Earl (MacLean) Ferguson. She was employed at the Sydney City Hospital as a nurse until she retired in 1974. She graduated from the Glace Bay General School of Nursing in 1932. Mrs. Munroe was a member of Gordon United Church, Reserve Mines, a member of the UCW, she belonged to the Cape Breton Gaelic Society in Sydney where she so enjoyed the Gaelic Culture. In her later years her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy.
Mrs. Munroe is survived by four daughters, Barbara (Eldon) Boone, Birch Grove, Beverley Moffatt, London, Ont., Judy Munroe Binder, with whom she resided, Diane (Joe) Campbell, Lawrencetown, Halifax; one son, Earl (Kathy) Munroe, Coxheath; sister, Sally Scott, Halifax; 10 grandchildren, Eldon Boone, Cecil Boone, Glenda Bennett, Ross Boone, David Munroe, Dawn Moffatt, Jeffrey Moffatt, Jocelyn Moffatt, Steven Binder, Glenn Binder; 15 great-grandchildren, Ronnie, Stacey, Courtney, Cecil, Lindsay, Erin, Joel, Matthew, Paige, Tallon, Steven, Curtis, Alyssa, Christopher and Zackary.
She was predeceased by her husband, John James Munroe and an infant brother, Allistair Ian.
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday), June 7, 2000, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in The Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 8, 2000, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. David MacLean officiating. Interment will be in MacLean Cemetery, Morrison Road.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Palliative Care Society or Gordon United Church, Reserve Mines.
Gordon Martin Stevens
66, Marion Bridge
Gordon Stevens, 66, of 1210 Brickyard Rd., Marion Bridge, passed away at his residence Tuesday, June 6, 2000.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Gordon and Alberta (LeVatte) Stevens. Gordon worked with the Canadian Coast Guard.
Mr. Stevens is survived by his wife, Ruth (Forbes) Stevens; two stepsons, Stephen and Craig Blackman, both of Halifax; sister, Bette (Mrs. Bernard Bezanson), Sydney; brother, Douglas (Ruth) Stevens.
Mr. Stevens was predeceased by a brother, Warren.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay.
