CHARLES R. KINNIE

Charles Russell Kinnie, Hantsport, N.S. 70, passed away in the Hants Community Hospital on July 26, 2002.
Born in Yarmouth, he was the son of Clarence and Nina (Jones) Kinnie.
He worked for the CPR Railway, in Windsor, Hantsport, and other locations in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick until his retirement. He will be remembered for his exceptional musical talent, his ability to dance and help others to both appreciate music and dance, and his love of nature and the outdoors. An avid recreational pilot in earlier years, he was always happy to take family and friends on excursions. Throughout his life, a great deal of time was spent at the cottage he loved and shared with his family. He was a loving grandfather to his four grandchildren.
He is survived by three children, Janis (Halifax), Barbara (Brian) Pincott, Calgary, and Carolyn (Lionel) Wheaton, Mount Denson; four grandchildren, Tristan, Jeremy, and Mariah Wheaton, and Andrew Kinnie; a sister Barbara Rhymer, Dartmouth and brother Lynn (Laurie),Yarmouth; and by his former wife, Katherine Kinnie, Falmouth. He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Ron Rhymer.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2 p.m., at Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor, N.S. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory can be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia.

GRACE MURIEL HILL

HILL......Grace Muriel, age 95, of Halifax, passed away on Saturday, July 20th, 2002, in the Q.E. II, Health Sciences Centre, Halifax Infirmary Site, Halifax.
Born on February 16th., 1907, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Everett Ethen Crooks and Charlotte (nee: Daubin) Crooks.
She was a life long member of St. Matthias Anglican Church, Halifax and the Tuesday night Guild. She was an avid gardener and a devoted mother.
She is survived by a daughter, Heather (James) Hersey, Dartmouth; sons, Henry Hill, Halifax; Rev. Everett (Maxine) Hill, Windsor; David Hill, Toronto, Ontario; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Edgar (Edna) Crooks, Seabright, Halifax County.
She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Hamilton Hill; sister, Gladys Crooks; brothers, Cecil Crooks; James Crooks; Leslie Crooks and Donald Crooks.
Cremation has taken place, under the care of Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor.
The Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 23rd., 2002, in St. Matthias Anglican Church, corner of Windsor Street and Chebucto Road, Halifax, with Rev. Peter Armstrong officiating. Following the funeral service, the family will receive friends at a reception (2:30 to 3:30) in St. Matthias Parish Hall. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Anglican Church Parish Cemetery, Hackett's Cove, Halifax County.
Donations in her memory, may be made to St. Matthias Anglican Church Memorial Fund.

DOROTHY "Dot" E. RALPH

RALPH......Dorothy "Dot" Eloise, age 83, of Windsor, Hants County, passed away on Sunday, July 7th., 2002, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor.
Born on September 26th., 1918, in Thomson Station, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late James and Viola (Matheson) Ralph.
Dot, was in the education field for 35 years, starting out as a teacher and finishing with the Provincial Department of Education as a divisional supervisor. Her teaching career involved schools in the Canadian West, the United States and finishing her last 25 years in Nova Scotia. She was a member of the Nova Scotia Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of the Three Mile Plains Women's Bible Society and had sang in St. John's Presbyterian Church choir. For the last 10 years, she was a resident of Dykeland Lodge, Windsor.
Dot is survived by sisters, Ola Tattrie-Fast, Truro; Vera Boyd, High River, Alberta; nieces, Bonnie Sutherland, Calgary, Alberta; Dorothy Burback, Kamloops, B.C.; nephews, Dave Boyd, Calgary, Alberta; Bill Boyd, Kentville.
She was predeceased by a niece, Carol McDorman.
No visitations by request.
Funeral service will be held, 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 10th., 2002, in the Chapel of Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Rev. Jeffrey White and Rev. John Boyd are officiating, followed by a reception in Lindsay's Family Reception Centre, 184 King Street. Interment in the family plot, Robie Street Cemetery, Truro.
Family flowers only, by request. Memorial donations may be made to Dykeland Lodge, Windsor.

BEULAH MAE CALDWELL

CALDWELL......Beulah Mae, age 68, of Three Mile Plains, Hants County, passed away at her home, Saturday, July 6th., 2002.
Born on April 12th., 1934, in Windsor, Hants County, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of Mona (nee: DeMont) Dykens, Three Mile Plains and the Late Peter A. Dykens.
She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Windsor.
She is survived by her companion of 10 years, Frank Wile; daughter, Marjorie MacLeod, Windsor; sons, William "Bill" (Heather) Caldwell, Three Mile Plains; Stephen (Leeanna) Caldwell, Three Mile Plains; grandchildren, Shawn Caldwell; Kimberley (Craig) Richardson; Jason MacLeod; Matthew MacLeod; Adam MacLeod; Michelle Caldwell; great grandson, Cole Richardson; sisters, Shirley Dykens; Louise (Randolph Sherman) Lunn; Jean (Wayne) Reynolds; Nancy (Reid) Davis, all of Three Mile Plains; brother, Charlie (Stephanie) Dykens, Three Mile Plains; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Percy William Caldwell (1982); brothers, Gordon and Burton.
Visitations 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, July 7th., in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 8th., 2002, in the Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Fred Rhymes officiating. Interment in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor, followed by a reception at Lindsay's Family Reception Centre, 184 King Street.
Donations in her memory, may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.

HARRY C. WAYE

WAYE....HARRY C. "JEFF" age 83, of Hants Border, passed away Tuesday, June 25th., 2002, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor.
Born in Glace Bay, April 11th., 1919, he was the son of the late Samuel and Annie (Boone) Waye.
He was a multi talented athlete who was scouted and invited to spring training camp of the Brooklyn Dodgers as a pitcher. Harry turned down the invitation so that he could serve his country in World War II. He was severely wounded in Italy and returned to Canada to become one of the first patients of Dr. Wilder Penfield in Montreal. He resided in Hantsport for the past forty-five years and prior to that was a resident of Glace Bay for many years. Harry enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to play bingo and go to the flea markets.
He is survived by his wife, the former Doris Saulnier; step daughter, Linda Patterson, Squamish, B.C.; step sons,Gerald Coburn, Hantsport; George Coburn, Edmonton, Alberta.;Donald Coburn, Truro; many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews; step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by brothers, Herb, Charles "Tony", George; sisters, Florence MacVicar, Gladys Robertson and Nel Turner.
Visitation will be 7-9 Thursday, June 27th.; 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King St., Windsor.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29th., 2002, in the Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. John Bartol officiating. Interment to follow in the Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport.

F. LOUISE MANN

MANN....F. LOUISE, age 67, of Haliburton Place, Windsor, formerly of Centre Burlington, Hants County, passed away on Tuesday, June 25th., 2002, at Haliburton Place, Hants Community Hospital, Windsor.
Born on April 16th, 1935, in Centre Burlington, Hants County, she was a daughter of the late Percy James and Doris Lorena (Salter) Mann.
She is survived by sisters, Rhoda (Earl) Pineo, Upper Burlington; Pauline (George) Mahar, Centre Burlington; brother, Paul (Jean), St. John, N.B.; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son David.
At the request of Louise, there will be no visitations or funeral service.
A Family only graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, June 28th., 2002, at the Centre Burlington Cemetery, Centre Burlington, with Rev. Garnet Parker officiating.
Donations in memory, may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia or to Haliburton Place, Hants Community Hospital.
Funeral arrangement are under the care of Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor.

BESSIE M. MacDONALD

MacDONALD......Bessie Myrtle, age 85, of Windsor, formerly of Three Mile Plains, Hants County, passed away on Monday, June 24th., 2002, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, where she was a resident for the last three years.
Born on February 7th, 1917, in Granville Ferry, Annapolis County, she was a daughter of the late George and Grace (Bent) Kelsey.
Bessie was former Head Cook at the Nova Scotia Freemasons Home, Windsor, from where she retired. She was also former Head Cook at the Hants Community Hospital and Edgehill School for Girls, Windsor. She had previously worked for 32 years at the Nova Scotia Textiles, Windsor. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by daughters, Myrtle McCulloch, Falmouth; Margaret (David) Duggan, Lakelands; Mary Louise (George) Duggan, Lakelands; Suzanne (Perley) Dagley, Three Mile Plains; sons, Charles MacDonald, Windsor; Freddie Ray (Sharon) MacDonald, Three Mile Plains; Stephen (Margaret) MacDonald, Three Mile Plains; 25 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick "Fred" William MacDonald (May 28th., 1975); son, Kenneth Wesley MacDonald; a son and a daughter in infancy; sisters, Annie May Whitehead; Maude Herman; Mary Grace Kelsey; brother, Gordon Kelsey.
Visitations 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 25th.,; also 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 26th., in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 27th., 2002, in the Church of the Nazarene, Wentworth Road, Windsor, with Rev. Larry Collins officiating. Interment in Ste. Croix Cemetery, St. Croix.
Donations in her memory, may be made to the Church of the Nazarene.

RANDOLPH R. UPSHAW

UPSHAW......Randolph Raymond "Randy", age 91, of Windsor, formerly of Three Mile Plains, Hants County, passed away peacefully on the eve of his 92nd. birthday, Friday, June 21st., 2002, at Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, where he had resided for the past three years.
Born on June 22nd, 1910, in Three Mile Plains, Nova Scotia, he was a son of the late Andrew and Margaret (Hamilton) Upshaw.
Rand had many jobs which mostly included working on farms and labor work, but spent most of his career at the Fundy Gypsum Company, where he retired after many years as a welder. In addition to his full time job, Rand attended to his farm at home and was an active community member. He held many volunteer positions in organizations such as: Windsor Plains United Baptist Church where he was also a Deacon, the Five Mile Plains School Board, the Five Mile Plains NAACP, the Black Cultural Centre and the African Baptist Association. Rand loved to read and sing, performing as soloist, in duets and in choirs such as the Brooklyn Men's Choir and the Windsor United Baptist Church Choir.
Rand was married to the late Esther (Johnson) Upshaw, and is survived by sons, Randy and David Upshaw; daughter, Carol Samuels, all in Ontario.
He later married Dollie (States) Upshaw, with whom he had ten children, Palema (Darrell) Upshaw, Lower Sackville; Wayne Upshaw, Kentville; Geneva (Brenton) Lucas, Halifax; Kevin Upshaw, in Ontario; Emeline Upshaw, Kentville; Wendell Upshaw, Kentville; Audrey Caldwell, Windsor; Michael "Peter" (Patricia) Upshaw, Kentville; Darren Upshaw, Victoria, B.C.; Colleen Upshaw, in Ontario; he is also survived by many grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sister, Pearl Upshaw, Three Mile Plains; numerous nieces and nephews.
Rand was also predeceased by two grandsons; sisters, Dorothy Upshaw and Marjorie Clayton; also by a brother and sister which were twins.
Visitations 7-9 p.m. Monday, June 24th., and Tuesday, June 25th., in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor.
Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 26th., 2002, in the Windsor United Baptist Church, Windsor. Rev. Moses Adekola and Rev. Jeffrey White are officiating, followed by interment in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor.
The family extends their thanks to the staff at Dykeland Lodge for their hard work and dedication to the comfort of our father.
Donations may be made to the Windsor Plains United Baptist Church.
