Duin - At Extendicare, Port Stanley on Monday, April 12, 2004. Mrs. Margaret (Mulder) Duin, formerly of St. Thomas, in her 94th year. Wife of the late Gysbertus “George” Duin (1989). Mother of John Duin, Elizabeth Gravelle and her husband Roger, all of St. Thomas, Peter Duin and his wife Sally of London, Len Duin of Vancouver, B.C., Ben Duin and his wife Wil, in The Netherlands, Leo Duin and his wife Ann, and Paul Duin, all of St. Thomas. Also survived by 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Carol Dawn Duin (2000) and by a sister and 5 brothers. Born in The Netherlands, November 22, 1910, to the late Peter and Elisabeth Mulder. She came to St. Thomas in 1952 and was a Roman Catholic by faith. There will be no public visitation. A private family funeral service will be held at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas on Thursday. Interment in Holy Angels’ cemetery. Memorial donations to the charity of one’s choice gratefully acknowledged.
Walker, Rex: Peacefully at the Hotel Dieu Hospital, St. Catharines on Monday, April 12, 2004 with his family by his side, in his 78th year. Beloved husband for 52 years of Dorothy (Wales). Loving father of Karen & Gerry Hamacher of Oakville, Susan & John Lyle of St. Thomas and Tom Walker & Pam Sharpe of Niagara Falls. Proud Papa of Lauren Hamacher, Robert and Kate Lyle and Trisha and Scott Walker and their mother Janice Walker of St. Catharines. He is survived by his brother Kenneth Walker of Delhi, his sister Lois & David Lamb of Burlington and his sister Gene & Tom Jones of St. Catharines. He will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews, Rex is predeceased by his sister-in-law Colleen Walker of Delhi. Rex spent his early career in education as a teacher and principal in Riverside (Windsor). He was a consultant for the Ministry of Education while in London at the Children's Psychiatric Institute as well as a counsellor in Special Education for the Lincoln County School Board. A special thank you to Carol and the visiting nurses of St. Elizabeth’s, both dialysis staffs at the Hotel Dieu Hospital, Dr. Broski, Arden and Harvey. Mr. Walker is at the PATRICK J. DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 39 Court Street, St. Catharines where the family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Friday, April 16, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. A private family interment will take place at Victoria Lawn cemetery. Also lovingly remembered by several nieces and nephews. Donna was born in St. Thomas, August 21st, 1928 to Walter and Hazel (Steen) Surgent. A memorial service will be held Friday at 3:00 p.m. from Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas. Cremation took place in London. Alice was born in Malahide Twp., Ontario on May 16, 1917 to the late John and Goldie (Beaseau) Downing. She was a life long resident of Aylmer and area. Alice was a medical secretary for Dr. McLay Miller for many years. She was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Aylmer, the A.C.W., Rebekah Lodge Avelon #224, Aylmer, Eastern Star Carnation #135, Springfield and the Ladies Encampment #20 Auxilliary of the R.C.A.F. The funeral service will be held H. A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Saturday, April 17, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. followed by cremation. Visitation one hour prior to service. Stephenson - Dorothy Janet (nee Walls) On Thursday, April 8, 2004, Dorothy Janet Stephenson of Whitecourt, AB, formerly of St. Thomas, ON, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 54 years. Dorothy will always be loved and never forgotten by Arni; her loving husband of 34 years; her precious children, Kyle of Whitecourt, AB Kristen of St. Thomas, ON, Kathy, Kelly and her fiance, Trent Romanchuk and his son, Colby, all of Whitecourt, AB; brothers and sisters, Clayton (Darlene) Walls of Medicine Hat, Gail (Mike) Gregory of Regina, Jim (Linda) Walls of North Battleford and Anne-Marie (Doug) Bowman of Edson; the Stephenson family from Kamloops, BC. Predeceased by her parents, Albert (1980) and Norma (1978). Dorothy was a loving, caring, vibrant wife, mother and friend. If you needed something or someone you could count on, Dorothy was there for you. Her crafts, golfing, singing and “shopping” were important parts of her life, but these endeavors took second place to the support which she gave her family and friends. Wilson (1983) and dearly loved mother of Prof. Roderic Leith Wilson and his wife Kathleen. Grandmother of Shaun Patrick Wilson and his wife Anne, Dr. Nigel Leith Wilson and his wife Jenny, Misses Kathleen Rose Elizabeth and Karen Ann Wilson, and Dr. Roderic William Wilson. Great-grandmother of Simon, James, Ben and Emma Wilson - all of the above living in England.
