John Aiken
1937 - 2010
Aiken, John Lawrence - Those who knew him will be surprised to hear that on June 21, 2010, John Aiken actually lost his battle with cancer. It is the one thing that was able to slow him down. John is survived by his wife, Lois; his daughter Holly and her husband, Warren; his son, John and his wife, Joanne; and three grandchildren: Chesley, Joshua and Kate. John will be remembered for his extensive business career which started as an accounting student at Gunn Roberts (one of the many precursor firms to KPMG), where he progressed to partner, moving on to become the Chief Financial Officer at Consumers Gas. However, colleagues and friends alike will recount, likely with a shake of their heads, his bad jokes and truly awful puns. A rabid Blue Jays fan, John and Lois left Toronto upon his retirement and settled in Grey County outside of Wiarton, where his father first taught school and his grandfather farmed. Unable to sit still, he was active in the community and among other endeavors was a strong supporter of one of the country's iconic emblems, Wiarton Willie. At John's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or ceremony. If desired and in appreciation for John's care, his family would be thankful for donations to the Oncology Department of the Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre. Funeral plans arranged at the Thomas C. Whitcroft Peninsula Chapel, 272 Berford St., Wiarton (519) 534-5341.
