Lynn Read

Lynn Laura Read, 60, of Stratford, died Aug. 19, 2008 with her family at her side on Tuesday, Aug. 19.
She was born in Stratford, a daughter of the late George and Dorothy (Dunsmore) Tremaine.
She had a love for music and drama, was a member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church junior and senior choirs for many years, as well as St. John’s Church Choir. She was a cast member of the Anglican Theatre Guild.
She had served as St. Paul’s Vestry Clerk.
She was a member of the original Stratford Summer Music Choir and the Concert Choir.
She had been secretary of the Royal Canadian Naval Association, a member of the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans, Unit 261, Stratford, and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 8, Stratford where she was poppy secretary and entertainment chair for several years.
She is survived by her husband Russ Marlow, and by her children Jodi Quipp (Roy), and Jennifer McCarthy (Greg), all of Stratford, and Jeffrey Read, of Alberta.
A funeral service was held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home.

Ethel Jane Sloat

Ethel Jane Sloat, 83, of Stratford, died Aug. 22, 2008 at Hillside Manor, RR 5 Stratford.
She was born at Gads Hill to the late Samuel and Mary (Busch) Sloat.
She was a member of the L’Arche Stratford Community which she called home for the past 30 years.
For the past couple of years she lived at Hillside Manor.
She was a member of Central United Church.
She loved to spend time with her friends, going out for coffee and spending time with children.
She was predeceased by brothers Sam, Roy, William, Harold, Joe, Kenneth, George, Gerald and her sisters Florence, Margaret and Isabel.
She is survived by one sister, Mae Henry, sister-in-law Florence Sloat and manynieces and nephews.
Her family received guests at Central United Church, Stratford where a funeral service was held.
Final arrangement by the W.G. Young Funeral Home.

Henk Van Nes

Hendricus Van Nes, 71, died Aug. 23, 2008 at Spruce Lodge.
He was born in Leusden, Utrecht, The Netherlands, a son of the late Jacobus and Matilda (Blom) Van Nes.
He had farmed in Downie Township since 1954.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Stratford.
He is survived by his wife Betty and children Jim (Corien), Paul Van Nes, Brenda Beenders (Mark), Michelle Hulman (Harry), Joe Van Nes.
Visitation was at the W.G. Young Funeral Home.
A funeral mass was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Stratford.
Interment in Avondale cemetery.

Sara Gardiner

Sara Marie Gardiner, 54, of Galt Road, Stratford, died suddenly as the result of a hit-and-run collision on Sept. 23, 2008.
She was born in North Battleford, Sask., a daughter of the late Lloyd Albert Gardiner and Kathleen Edith (Wride) Gardiner.
She was employed in the Records Department at the Stratford Jail for 20 years.
She was a member of St. James Anglican Church and a former member of their Chancel Guild.
She received her Nursing Certificate from the Kelsey Institute, Saskatoon, in 1980 and later returned to the Healing Arts with certificates in Acupressure, Therapeutic Touch, Reflexology and Reiki.
She was an active member of the Stratford Friends of the Festival and loved cooking and ballroom dancing.
Over the past two years she had taken up motor-biking and was an enthusiastic member of the Southern Cruisers Riding Club, Chapter 270.
She is survived by her son Adam Gardiner, Stratford as well as family in Ontario, Saskatchewan...

Marjorie Isabel Latham

Marjorie Isabel Latham nee Lillico, 81, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Stratford General Hospital.
Born and educated in Ottawa, she was a daughter of the late Collin Lillico and Eunice Whyte.
She was a lifelong member of the United Church, a CGIT leader, a Women's Institute member and a member of the Perth Regiment IODE.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ronald Latham, and her children Neil Latham and Paula (Luigi) Civiero.
Visitation will be held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
A private family service will be held.

Ryan Albrecht

Ryan William Albrecht, 17, of Stratford, died while swimming at Grand Bend on July 23, 2008.
He was born in Stratford and was a student at Central Secondary School.
He loved music and many sports including hockey, lacrosse and biking.
He is survived by his parents Kathy and Roger Albrecht and his brother Brandon as well as his grandparents Dave and Carol Koch and Ruth Albrecht and his great-grandmother Lois Bart.
He was a special friend to Brittany and her family.
He was predeceased by his grandfather Lester Albrecht, aunt Beverly Koch and cousin Hailey Eckhardt.
Visitation was at the W.G. Young Funeral Home on Thursday, July 31 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 2 p.m. Interment in Avondale cemetery.

William (Bill) Garrard

William Garrard, 81, a resident of Hillside Nursing Home, died July 27, 2008 at Stratford General Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Elizabeth (Jo) née Grills, son Russell (Rose) Garrard of Burlington and daughter Leslie ( Dan) Allan of New Hamburg.
A private family service was held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home.

William Suttie, 86, of Stratford, died at Victoria Hospital, London, on July 27, 2008.
He is survived by his son Carman.
He was predeceased by his wife Flora in 2003.
A funeral service was held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home.
Burial in 2nd St. John's Lutheran Church cemetery , Wartburg.

Maree Stoskopf

Maree Stoskopf, 97, of Stratford, died at Cedarcroft Place on July 25, 2008.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Radiant Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #134 and the Festival City Kiwins.
She was predeceased by her husband Carl in 1996.
She is survived by her sisters-in-law Margaret and Marie Stoskopf and Dorothy Scott, by three nephews and three nieces and godchild and caregiver Gloria and Bernie Lawrence.
A funeral service was held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in Sebringville.

Edith Vogt

Edith Mary Vogt, 95, a longtime resident of Greenwood Court, Stratford, died in the presence of her daughter, friends and staff on Sunday, July 27, 2008.
She was born in England and immigrated to the United States as a young child.
She worked as a bookkeeper for over 60 years and came to live in Stratford in 1994.
She is survived by her daughter Sheila Gustafson, her granddaughter Jonika Paulson and her great-granddaughter Isobel Scholten as well as her stepdaughters Florence Forbes, Marjorie Pereno and Jeane Ford, and her sister Millicent England.
She was predeceased by her husbands Walter Wallace, William Wyllie and Eugene Vogt, by her sister Hannah Nelson, and her stepdaughters Dorothy Rose and Ruth Newhouse.
A memorial service will be held at Greenwood Court, 90 Greenwood Drive, Stratford, today, Aug. 1 at 11 a.m. with reception to follow
