George Kenneth Harcourt Galbraith of Hanover, and formerly of Wroxeter, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007 at Hanover and District Hospital at the age of 87. He was born in Howick Township on March 7, 1920. Ken served with the Royal Canadian Dragoons in the Second World War, seeing action in Italy, Holland and Northwest Europe, and was a past-president of Howick Legion No. 307 RCL. Ken was the beloved husband of the late Margaret (Brown) Galbraith; dear father of Scott and Linda Galbraith of Hanover, Jim and Cindy Galbraith of Lucan, Clark and Sharon Galbraith of Listowel, and Keith and Carol Galbraith of Whitechurch; loving grandfather of Carleigh and Kevin, Shawn, Craig, Cameron, Brad and Colin; and great-grandfather of Abrianna and Zachary. He was the dear brother of Alma Watson of Brussels and Gene Watson of Wingham; and was predeceased by his sister Helen and his brother Ward. Friends were received by the family on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 7-9 p.m. at the Gorrie Visitation Centre of the Schimanski Family Funeral Home, with a Legion service under the auspices of Howick Legion No. 307 RCL following the visitation at 9 p.m. The funeral service was on Friday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. at Wroxeter United Church with Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiating. A remembrance of Ken was given by his son Jim, and the hymns for the service were Onward, Christian Soldiers and In Flanders Fields. Carleigh, Abrianna and Zachary Peckford carried floral tributes, and pallbearers were Kevin Peckford, Shawn Galbraith, Craig Galbraith, Cam Galbraith, Brad Galbraith and Colin Galbraith. Interment was in Wroxeter cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Howick Legion No. 307 RCL or the Alzheimer’s Society.

Mr. William Albert Sanderson of Listowel passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Friday, Oct. 12, 2007 at the age of 72. Bill was the father of Paula and Garry Pattenden of Collingwood, and Cassandra and Mike Chambers of Stratford; grandfather of Connor and Kenzie Chambers; and brother of Joyce Steuernol of Wingham, and Dorothy and Bill Taylor of Collingwood. He was predeceased by his parents Lorne and Bessie (Pinnell) Sanderson, his brothers Elmo and Raymond, and by his sister Florence Willis. Visitation was held on Sunday, Oct. 14 from 1-4 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel, where the memorial service was held on Monday, Oct. 15 at 10:30 a.m. Interment was in Wingham cemetery , Wingham. Memorial donations to the Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation, Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, or Central United Church, Stratford would be appreciated.

Cindy Allin of New Hamburg passed away suddenly on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007 at the age of 45. She was born in Listowel, the dear daughter of Wayne and Frances (Dunbar) Keeso of Listowel. Cindy was the beloved wife of Larry Allin, whom she married Oct. 2, 1982; and loving mother of Andrew and friend Ashley McCorriston, and Mark, both at home. She will be sadly missed by her sisters Keena and husband John Otten of Stratford, and Rhonda and fiancé Al Sawatzky of Collingwood; her father-in-law and mother-in-law Murray and Jeanne Allin of Listowel; brothers-in-law Doug and wife Sheila Allin of Atwood and Glenn and wife Jodi Allin of Milverton; and also will be missed by a number of nieces and nephews. Cindy was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel. Family and friends called at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, New Hamburg on Sunday Oct. 7 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., where the funeral service took place on Monday Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. Interment was in Riverside cemetery , New Hamburg. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association, Wilmot Family Resource Centre (Foodbank) or a charity of one’s choice.
