He joined the R.C.R. and was wounded in Korea where he became the first Canadian POW to be released after the war. He was a member of the Korean Veterans Association, the Royal Canadian Regiment Association, and the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. Association. Thuell: Gwendolyn Ruth - A resident of Chatham and formerly of Gowanstown died at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Public General Campus on Friday, May 31, 2002 at the age of 88. Born in Palmerston, daughter of the late Archibald and Jean (Harrison) Darroch. Beloved wife of the late Cloyne O. (Pont) Thuell (1982). Dear mother of Keith Thuell and his wife Phyllis of Manotick, Claire Thuell and his wife Peg of Innisfil, Kenneth Thuell and his wife Diane of Gravenhurst and Barb Krieger and her husband George of Belle River. Grandmother of David, Lisa, Brent, Patti, Leanne and Michael, Korri and Jeff. Sister of Margaret Mason of Port Elgin and the late Jack Darroch, Archibald Darroch and Jean Marsden. Mrs. Thuell lived in Gowanstown and Ripley for many years and was a retired telephone operator. She was a member of the Rebekkah Lodge in Ripley. In 1985 she moved to Belle River to be with her daughter. She had a great sense of humour and was devoted to her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Thuell was cremated and a Memorial Service will be held in Palmerston cemetery on Saturday, June 15, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. Donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Born in Thamesville, daughter of Donald and Marlene (Butler) Chalcraft of Chatham. Joyce was a former member of the Chatham Mapleaires Drum Corp. Beloved wife of the late William McCrank (2000). Dear mother of Justin Chalcraft and his spouse Amber Ellis. Grandmother of Daniel Chalcraft. Grandaughter of William Chalcraft of Chatham and the late Agnes Chalcraft, and Retta and Albert Butler. Sister of Margaret Whaley and her husband James of Chatham, Debbie Chalcraft of Hamilton, James Chalcraft and Tasha Verkaik of Chatham and Ken Chalcraft of Hamilton. Also survived by 14 nieces, 7 nephews, 12 great nieces and 6 great nephews. Kyle was born in Chatham on November 17, 2000. Much loved brother of Patricia, Christopher, and Kellie Langille, all at home.
